I like Light without his memories, but upon Kira's return he's even more evil than before. I've always loved the line during the Judas foot washing scene where L says "It will be lonely, won't it?" I think L is much more self-aware and reflective than Light, and so he recognises what Light doesn't: that without the other, they're alone again. Light no longer has an equal, someone to connect with, understand and fight on the same level.

The drying scene is a representation of when Jesus washed Judas' feet before his betrayal. Jesus did that knowing he was about to be betrayed and killed. Is the same thing with L and Light.

This ep was genius in every way. Specially the rain scene. There was no inner monologue or music which kept us on edge, wondering what L and Light were thinking. Goodbye L 🥺

If L had the same personality as Light, like the kind of person who will kill everyone that hinders himself and was afraid of death and all he want was to save his own life selfishly, then L would kill the most suspected Kira candidates included Light in just TWO episodes , Light could not even had a chance to meet L, so even Light got the eyes of death it would be useless. Not to mention Light was afraid of his own death, so it is impossible for himself to get the eyes.

What I love about this episode besides that there is a definitive conclusion to their battle (and how well it is done) is that it flips the script almost completely while simultaneously not doing so at all. The antagonist is defeated by the protagonist. That is usually how it goes, but here the antagonist is legitimately one of the few forces of good in the show, and Light is about as despicable as they get at this point. Moreover, not only is Light evil, but he is utilizing others positive traits to win, he utilizes Rem's love of Misa to kill L and Rem and utilizes L's need to prove his case in order to triumph over him...all while continuing to use Misa for his own ends. So what we are left with is a chapter conclusion that is about as dark as they come, but is still the same formula of protagonist triumphs over antagonist. Also, L always had the higher burden in that he not only had to find out who Kira was, but had to prove it. That and he had no prior knowledge of the notebook or had its capabilities at his disposal. And it is this burden that allows Light to triumph over him. One of the more frustrating episodes in anime, but in a good way.

LMAFOAO UR SO REAL FOR THAT i remember when i first watched it i was 11 and i cried SO HARD over his death because he was so precious to me as a little girl. I was sort of numb watching the rest of the show, and 9 years later I've rewatched this show about 7 times and i ALWAYS stop at episode 25 Never been able to rewatch the show all the way through out of respect for L and hatred for Light LOL

leaving watari alive was a risk, watari could have been part of L's kill switch with instructions on how to continue were he to die . in fact you can bet that this was part of the contingency plans. Watari was actually no intellectual slouch as you find out the next episode, he just took a secondary role to L.

I don't know where you get the idea the Misa gained *any* life from the Shinigamis. Ryuk or Rem specifically said humans don't gain life from death notes. Assuming Misa is about 20 she could plausibly live to be 80. Lost half of 60 the first time, half of 30 the second time. So her current life span is 15 more years or 35 total - as a rough approximation.

This is one of the best deaths in anime. Still breaks my heart, but one of my favorite things about watching reactions to this is people aren’t erupting in tears. There’s just a silence, a look of “wow can’t believe that just happened, did that just happen”, and somewhat disgust. This death hurt in a different way. It still got that reaction even though most saw it coming due to how it was alluded to all episode. Just great.

idk how you didn't see this coming. Ever since episode 2 Light wanted to kill L, and since Rem showed up, L should have been dead 10 episodes ago if dumb Misa hadn't shown up on campus in front of Light and L. In the arc of Light good, the series writers wanted you to like L more, but that doesn't change anything. Light just did what he said in like episode 8 or something, when he said he wanted to get closer to L, and kill him, even with his own hands if he had to. But anyway, remember very well what L said to Light at minute 11:39, by the end of the series, and you'll see the things differently

The manga author of Death Note indicated in his another work "BAKUMAN" that the real ending of Death Note is that Light and L perish together, which is equal to the ending of the Japanese movie of DN, because at that time the DN editor didn't want the manga ended that fast, so the author hastily arranged this version of L's death, which was not his intention at all. Spoiler Alert 。 。 。 。 。 。 。 。 。 。 。 。. L sacrificed himself by writing his own name on the Death Note first so that it would be invalid when Light wrote L's name on it and that would buy L some time to prove his point and sentence Light to death in the end. The actual executioner was still Ryuk though.

L didn't write a name in the death note though, he was going to have a death row inmate write in the notebook, but Rem killed him and Watari before they could test it and find out.

What Ryuk said to Light before was actually a trick (which Light eventually mentioned he figured out.) So whether you actually use the Death Note or not, you end up to Mu (or Nothingness). ***SPOILER ENDS***

Rem specifically said gelus lifespan was given to Misa, which was prob hundreds if not thousands of years since they're lazy and scared to die. The lifespan Misa gave up to rem for the shinagami eyes to rem was given back to misa as shr would get her lifespan expanded by rem, but the question is if light got half cause he plotted it(light could be the guy gelus killed btw) so misa lifespan expanded for sure, i say thousands of years halved to misa and light, with misa halving her lifespan doing the eye deal again before getting rems lifespan
