The scene with L and Light on the rooftop is one of my all time favourite scenes. That conversation is just brilliant. L knows Light is Kira, he knows he is right. But he cannot prove it and in a way that and the following scene is L accepting he has lost or is going to lose. And plus the symbolism with L hearing the bells and as well him wiping Light's feet. Thank youuuu L gets so much hate, which is stupid. He is the Supreme genius. The ONLY reason that he was "unsuccessful" is because he had to play by the legal rules. In otherwords, he couldn't condemn Light without tangible evidence to convict him, which is extremely hard! I mean, it is a supernatural power for heavens sake! Light, on the other hand, used supernatural means and is just evil to the core. I hate Light so much. He claims to be justice and only seeks to purge evil from the world, but he has become the evil he claims to despise, because look at all the good and innocent people he's killed. Ill say it again: I hate Light so much.
@Ktotokroto Жыл бұрын
L is consistently smarter than Light, usually catching up to his moves and at times being one step ahead, using the Light approach to the "game" to his advantage. For example, Light wanted to get closer to L, so all his early "mistakes" were on purpose to lure L into "striking" range. L tho just tied his hands by meeting him. However the feat with returning the notebook is easily the best in the show and the most complete trap layed out in it as well. In my own head I just refer to Light in those two episodes(Or rather Light that managed to formulate a master move of such magnitude) as peak Kira. And I like to think that peak Kira is at the very least equal to L if not smarter, in that instance. Kira won like 10 episodes ago after the biggest blunder with Misa capture that seemed like a decisive L victory at the time. He not only flipped the situation, gained trust of people on Kira case(Reversing the strategy of tying your opponents hands) and cornered L. He made it in a way that guaranteed him a short lasting window of security(13 days) and with several contingency steps. Plan A is Misa just killing L, Plan B is her taking the eye deal again and killing L and Plan C is Rem killing L, which due to its nature was "unfailable". It was a huge gambit that payed off. His ability to ensure victory with the tools at his disposal in this instance is also why the ending hurts me so much. With the tools and information Light had against N, "Peak Kira" would not just win, not just humiliate but cake walk all over Near before he even realised he has been played. Eh, I'm just rambling at this point. I really need some friends I can talk with instead of dumping all my thoughts into random youtube comment sections. TLDR: "Peak Kira">=L>Light
@killerastronaut_ Жыл бұрын
It's weird how anyone would think light is smarter, I mean, look at how childish his idea of a perfect world is, he said he wanted to get rid of all the bad guys when in reality he just has a big god complex and thinks he can be a God forever without thinking about the consequences of his actions in the long run, he's not thinking ahead at all! Personally I don't find anyone with that type of mindset intelligent 😒

Sorry for my English 15:18 People say this scene is a recreation of Jesus washing Judas' feet. Jesus knew there was a traitor among them and L was always suspicious of Light. And Judas handed Jesus over to the enemy to die and Light leaves the dead in Rem's hands... Jesus washed the feet of the apostles at the last supper before the crucifixion, he already knew he was going to die. So people say that L accepts his defeat to Light in this scene.
@Nikko231 Жыл бұрын
Here is the explanation of the forest scene and light's mind-blowing master plan. In the forest light exchanged I will refer to ryuk's notebook (light's notebook) as DN1 and Rem's notebook (misa's notebook) as DN2 . So after the switch Noe rem has dn1 and ryuk has dn2 Here are all the advantages the light gains from this : 1. Rem would give the dn1 to some power hungry greedy guy as per light's instruction, ryuk wouldn't have done that as he doesn't take light's side. 2. Rem would always be closer to L once he gets the dn. This would allow her to see L suspecting Misa and in turn killing him. 3. She wouldn't help L 4. Now, the exchange was important because the dn that L gets NEEDED to be DN1 because: 5. It has all the names of the Kira victims so that L can cross check it . 6. It has the rules of deathnote so that L can understand them among the fake rules that proves light and Misa innocent. 7. The rules will also help the new Kira to understand it 8. When Misa takes the ownership this time. She is able to make the eye deal because ryuk allows it when Rem wouldn't have. So as you see the exchange of the notebook's shinegami put the piece in the right place to make the plan work. Although the plan was risky it's genius and one of the best portrayals of intelligence that I have seen in any media 🔥

It blows my mind that the show took this bold direction, and with hindsight, it was sadly realistic. L and Light might be equals on an intellectual level, but knowing that Light additionally gave up his humanity to higher forces (two shinigamis and all the powers they could provide wrapped around his fingers), of course he could hold the whole equation in his hands and take away all of L's capacities to prove that he actually solved it. It was so tough to watch. That scene on the rooftop, the pouring rain, the silences between every spoken line, L's sorrow and resilience... The way the episode conveyed this lump-in-the-throat feeling was unbelievable. It's been days since I've watched these two episodes, yet I'm still heartbroken 💔

Light's father talks about sacrificing a human life. Dude, what sacrifice is beign made here? The person will die anyway. And Japan has death sentence, so they should be well aware that their legal system literally allows "sacrificing lifes". Not only that, they shouldn't even need L pointing out that they should test the note, because they only have the word of Higuchi that it was the notebook. Many rules like losing memories, etc. If both of them had equal knowledge about the note and shinigamis, L would have definitely gotten evidence that Light was Kira way earlier. But I guess that's what happens when you operate with wavering information. Plus, he was the smartest in the group. If he had someone even as smart as him (not kira), he could have one. But don't worry😂 the next couple of episodes are epic. 29 really got me😂🔥

Man, I don't even remember the last time I saw this anime. It makes me appreciate even more how L at the end was sure it had to be Light, but he found himself totally unable to prove anything. He felt defeated. That's why he seemed so dejected during his last few days. He had nothing to truly use and even that last plan was just him forcing death's hand. It wasn't important how good the plan was anymore, because he knew "they" wouldn't let him try.

I'm fascinated to see how all of your opinions are watching Death Note for the first time in 2023. These last dozen episodes weren't received well on initial airing, but I think new viewers might be able to see the nuance in the characters moving forward and make different judgements.

I think in this episode we can see the difference between L and Kira's maturities once again. L faces death with acceptance, just like how he acted calm and collected whenever he was outsmarted, he's mature. (Especially in comparison to Kira, who always acted angry and childish when he was outsmarted.) He also knows that his legacy will live on, that justice will take place whenever it may be, that people like him who try to do good will always come. L did want to win and see his victory, but at the end of the day, he knows that he will win eventually. Anyway this episode devastates me everytime, I love L and we did not deserve this haha.

@Yellowfruit65 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say Light was outsmarted. Slight spoiler below It was someone else's mistake/disobedience that led to his defeat. He specifically told Mikami to not do anything extra, but Mikami went against his order and used the real notebook. At most you can say Light's mistake was he overestimated how good he was at understanding human's (or just Mikami's) mind and didn't anticipate that Mikami would go against his order, but I would say that is a far stretch. No one can fully predict others' actions 100% unless they can read and control minds. Light has planned everything out and he would have won if not for Mikami doing extra stuff.
@user-mu1jm9mz2t Жыл бұрын
@@Yellowfruit65 it’s not even that. Second half was full of plot holes and a terrible L replacement. Light became unrealistically overconfident , not even having a backup plan, the way he was a calculated killer as a teen in the first half just for his entire character to get butchered in the end for the sake of plot
@zynpkrdg Жыл бұрын
@@Yellowfruit65 i disagree, up until now, and even then, Light had all the advantages. Even supernatural advantages, and yet L came this far while dealing with people, governments, every obstacle possible etc. Light had one insubordination, he should've thought about it, it's one disadvantage. I think it's not about being outsmarted btw, it's about ego. Their feud with L was also about ego. He was at a point where he was no longer humane, nor mature, he was ought to fall sooner or later. And he would never win, bc he wanted to be infinite as i said, he wanted to be the "god" of the "new world", that is simply impossible. Especially because he had become corrupted along the way, he had already lost sight of his initial goals. But these are just my opinions.🤷♀️ Appreciate you telling yours.

Guys please see my comment, there is an animated Death Note movie, which is basically a summary of the series you are watching now, but it has some things that do not appear in the series original Especially this one about L's death, you can even search the scene specifically why it's a jewel, it will help you hate Light more

Even as a Light fan it was very sad to see these two episodes especially episode 25 the way L knew he was going to die and the way Light wasn't even sad about it that was truly when my heart broke 💔 But at the same time the fact that Light had planned all this in advance and was ten steps ahead made him a straight Goat and as his fan enjoyed how smart and alert he is and his high intelligence is undeniable and so insane and yeah i can never hate light because to me he is one of the best anime characters and villain of all time 👑🔥

Light is goated no matter what others think... The world shown in death note (most probably our reality) needed a bitter solution to solve problems... And I really don't think Light did anything wrong except some of his decisions were really brutal.

Some people say that when L is wiping Light's feet, it's like Jesus washing the feet of Judas(the sinner & betrayer). Some say Jesus did it to show humility, others say he did it to say he still loves him & forgives him. The details of this show are amazing.

L felt he would die soon. He didn't know how or who. So he pulled a gambit to try the 13 day rule. He figured this would trigger things. Sadly if only Light allowed the book yo be destroyed, then he could have kept his memory and continued his plans. He made MAJOR screw uos due to his complexity addition.

Why L wanted the data deleted: L is not a good person. He shares many of the same flaws that Light has. He is extremely selfish and he doesn't care about solving cases to make the world a better or safer place, he does it for his own fulfilment. He deleted the data, so no other detective or the police is able to use the information he worked for. He also hates to lose. In the end, he may have died, but he did not lose to Light. He knew he was Kira, there was just one last piece of evidence missing when literal magic killed him. There is also this common misconception of L considering Light a friend, which was a lie to see how memory-loss Light reacts to it. It makes no sense at all because he figured out very early that Light is Kira. The percentage he told Light ("There is a 7% chance that you're Kira") was - you guessed it - a lie. L throws all morals aside to solve cases. That's why he uses methods that are against the law (torturing Misa, wanting to release a criminal who got the death sentence from prison, etc)
@skrellb9659 Жыл бұрын
Just so you know that computer didn’t just have data on Light. That computer had a lot of other data and contacts. In the event data isn’t deleted that means Light gets to play around with it. It’s been stated before by L he noticed how good light was at hacking so he knew he would be capable of accessing the data after his death.

I've watched this series like 4 times but only now watching your reaction I realize L knew he was gonna die because either the 13 days rule was true so he would die shortly after testing the notebook, or it was fake so he would get killed as part of Light's master plan. He never let go of the possibility that Light might be Kira but at the same time he wasn't 100% sure, he needed to go through the scientific method and committed to test the notebook himself.

Light was pretty much trying to advance his pawns to promote to a queen and L was just focused on slowly chipping away the pawns and eventually when light had one pawn about to promote L just kept on checking light not letting him promote but eventually light moved his pieces in a way that if L checks him light can block with a pawn that checks L leading to light being able to promote the queen and get the checkmate

Fun Fact: L washing light's feet when they came in from the rain is a biblical reference. It is a reference to John 13:2-11 when Jesus washed Judas's feet. This was foreshadowing for Lights betrayal and L's eventual death.

I remember the first time I watched this episode where L dies i couldn't believe it at all i honestly thought that was all planned by L himself to trick Light But yeah i was really disappointed about it than i learnt that the writer had a different plan for the ending but the studio wanted to milk the show as long as possible to make more money that's why they changed the events of the anime
