He doesn't do what most people do at night, he rarely rests. He continues his work relentlessly, not letting up, most usually in front of a screen. Pixels, not dreams.

It’s also possible to take it in a more specific sense: Light is referencing a specific dream, _his_ specific dream. Light is not realizing that L has the same plan as him. Light’s dream is to rid the world of crime, but Light believes that L can’t see that and that he only sees the data on the screen that shows how many people Kira has killed. I think it’s talking about the specific dream that Light has, and then it intertwines with what you said.

It kinda bothers me. 2 lines could have easily been done better. "He will be careful too," and "whenever my end is served by his means." "He will be careful too" is just too redundant to me. It's like singing about the guy in front of you in line for ice cream and subtly implying that he also might want some ice cream. "Whenever my end is served by his means." bugs me because, again, it's obvious. They both know their deaths will be brought on by the other as that's the whole point of this collision course. Lines that only serve to pander to people who know the franchise just bug me because the original series and manga were both created so that newcomers would be able to experience them free. There's nothing in the manga or show that looks at the audience and goes "you've seen death note, right?"

owlflame I could argue with you on all point but I really only want to on one. "Whenever my end is served by his means" it could refer to their deaths, yes. But that would be the secondary meaning at best. The saying refers to when someone else does the work to reach your goal. This makes sense in the song because they are both trying to one up each other by manipulating the field and causing the other to help him win. Ex. Light needs to get on the task force (Light's end) L invites him (L's mean) Light's end was served by L's means.

I think this song is prefect: if they tried to take it too seriously or write something really profound, it would be horrendous. It's only bearable for it's silliness. Athena Zhou Well, Light and L thrive off of competition, and the fact that at any given moment, they could win against the other thrills them. That is what I take it as. In L’s case, when he sings that, he is referencing to the fact that even though the percentage may be small-since L’s name is unknown to Light-he could be killed by Light using the Death Note. Light means that he may get caught by L.
