@gretarobinson11428 сағат бұрын

@peter-ess8 сағат бұрын
The fact that Rudakubana was under 18 years old at the time he committed his attack means the judge could not impose a life sentence without parole.
@lorree18 сағат бұрын
He was given the maximum sentence possible for his age, he won't be getting any parole.
@Diamonddavej7 сағат бұрын
Even if he got a whole life sentenced there is still possibility he would have been released, as it is possible for people who are sentenced to life imprisonment or long sentences to be released on compassionate / medical grounds, e.g. Reggie Kray who was imprisoned for life, was released after a diagnosis of cancer and died a little over a month later a free man, and Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, who was jailed for 27 years for his role in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, which killed 270 people, he was released due to prostate cancer in August 2009, he died 3 years later. So basically, a life sentence does not guarantee he would die in prison, with a greater degree of certainty, than a 52-year sentence with the possibility of parole (he'd be 70 years old at this first parole hearing, and the second parole hearing will be 2 years later).
@shameronstar72207 сағат бұрын

I only watched this video because I knew Dr. Grande would give us the straight information on this horrible tragedy. At some point, a judge is going to have to say to a murderer, "I don't care why you did it. It has been proven in court, through the testimony of numerous witnesses, that you did this. As well as with the ample forensic evidence. Whether you are mentally ill does not matter. What matters is the children you killed. I sentence you to die for what you did." Several years ago, there was a guy who wore red hair, and tried to kill over a hundred people in a theater with a military rifle. He should have also heard the judge say these things. Murder is murder. Once you take a life, that life is never coming back. People should consider their own life over, should they commit it.

@gailbrevittlenton66678 сағат бұрын
Well said. In fact, perhaps the first "body" who could have taken steps to prevent this, long before it happened, might have been his family. No way to know if it is applicable in this case, but so many parents in our present society, are so distracted by phone culture, and allow their kids to do the same so as that distraction doesn't get interrupted, that parenting is in a very weak place today. (Long standing teacher here, so we see plenty of examples). Another "body" that could do a better job, by introducing more checks on their customers, like whether they have the adequate age to buy whatever it is they are trying to buy, is Amazon, and any other online commerce. Certain purchases would benefit from having to supply some sort of identification to assure they have an adequate age to be buying such product.

And we're not going to talk about the parents? They knew the kinds of things he was watching, they get a package they have to sign for and don't check what it is? Knowing their son's proclivities by then? They are just as culpable and quite frankly should have been charged for accepting the murder weapon.

His parents didn't keep a knife in the kitchen, so he had to order one. What household hides the knives then accepts one in the post?

So... the knife comes to the house and the parents give it to him! Maybe all packages should have been searched? Hindsight 20/20 but this child needed supervision!

Besides all of the glaringly horrible things about this, I also find it sad that from now on those kids will associate Taylor Swift with the worst day of their life, when just prior to the attack they adored her. And she is everywhere. They will be reminded of this constantly for the rest of their lives 😞
@amydamjanovic91835 сағат бұрын
His parents definitely bear some responsibility. They accepted delivery of the knife, what did they think it was for? They knew his history with them.

It's also reasonable to believe that Axel's parents understood, hence knew of, their son's propensity for such violence.
@edelweiss2.076Сағат бұрын
Of course his parents knew he was violent. He was most likely violent with them as well. It sounds like the parents tried to get him help. The father tried to contain him at home. It sounds as if the family did not receive enough support. This kid was off his rocker & needed to be medicated. All attempts seemed to have failed.

He said he's happy those girls died. We can't say anything bad about immigrants, different colour people or different religion, nor write on social media, people got arrested for it here in UK. I'm Polish, living in England with my Scottish husband and I can tell you it's getting worse and worse. People are fed up and it will end badly. Fun fact, this guy was in Doctor Who.

So, there are photos of the families house and Axel lived in the living room and knifes were around the house, so I read. What is the history of his father in the Rwandan genocide? This was actually the first thing I thought when I heard Axel is Rwandan. And why did his father not seek help for him when he stopped Axel from going to the high school? Or report him to the police, clearly the father knew how dangerous his son is. Many questions.

It seems that either kids get under- or over-diagnosed for mental illness. In Axel's case, diagnosed a little too late with HFA. Or what he likely had, some type of early-onset psychosis. Seemed like he had a schizoid personality.
