I'm writing that the current year is 2024 and it's now been 35 years that have passed since Lucille Ball died in 1989. I Love lucy began airing reruns in syndication in January 1967 and it's now the year 2024 and it's now been in syndication for 58 years.

i was born in 1955 and watched I Love Lucy growing up. They stopping production in 1957 so if it wasn't in syndication until 1967, and I wasn't watching it live, what was I watching then?

I Love Lucy was aired on RPN 9 in the Philippines I think back in 1989 or 1990. But they didn't know Lucille Ball was dead when RPN 9 continued airing I Love Lucy until the final episode

I will never understand why the passing of a famous person is any more tragic than an unknown person. I will never forget when JFK Jr died. The news said he was a very special person, my daughter said: "I think my dad is a very special person". Everyone dies and no one's death is any more tragic than anyone eleses. More people will be sad because more people knew and loved that person. I grew up with that tv show and enjoyed it very much. However, the passing of my parents was more tragic than that of a movie star I never knew or had a relationship with.

I was a teenager when JFK was killed and I still tear up today - I loved Lucille Ball and appreciated the love and laughter she gave to me and to the world - watching I Love Lucy (again) got me thru the Covid period of isolation

Also, I am not a fan type person - either movie, tv, music stars - I appreciated their gifts but I did love Lucy and still do today.
@bigskypioneer18989 ай бұрын
90% agree. The other 10%... I suspect it's for 2 reasons - 1) usually a lot of people's lives were affected one way or another by said famous person and its an acknowledgement that the famous person won't be a part of our lives anymore. I still miss knowing that someone like Lucille Ball is out there finding new ways to make people laugh and feel good. 2) But *mostly* it tends to remind us of our mortality, rich or poor, good or bad, criminal or saint... we all die. It's the great equalizer.
@andyheller26919 ай бұрын
I understand what your saying and agree in part. That being said people feel a connection to a particular celebrity that they like and have watched or listened to for many years and often know things about them more then some people they know. I liked Sean Connery for 40 years and when he died I felt a little sad, but not like I would have had a personal loved one died. I do think some people go overboard on celebrity deaths and completely fall apart and that I wonder about. Celebrities are people too and their deaths are unwanted as anyone else's death.

@LJ-ht4zs3 ай бұрын
They both cheated on each other. I still loved JFK. When he was running for President when I was age 15, I took two buses by myself to see him at the Yonkers Train Station. To this day, if there is a program about the assassination it still makes me cry. I have lost my grandparents, parents, aunts & uncles, brothers and nephews and a niece. They all meant something to me. However, I can still feel deeply abt. JFK and Lucille Ball. (the only star I have a deep feeling for all these years later. First saw her in 1951 watched all the I Love Lucy Shows to get me thru Covid-19 lock down. And after that went into her film history and saw about 10 - 15 movies i had never seen before and thoroughly enjoyed them.
