But at least Ned Stark died knowing his wife and children were all alive--if in some danger. After Teresa died, I lost interest in the Sharpe miniseries. None of the later love interests amounted to anything. His story really was over, for all intents and purposes.

@@TheDa6781 If Assumpta Serna ain't glowin', I ain't showin. I liked him fine, but I adored her. And her knife. Only point of Sharpe was that he was worthy of her. Kinda. Almost. Anyway. He at least had their daughter, but much we saw of her. The Brits were only involved in the Peninsular War for eight years. Sixteen miniseries is a bit much, wouldn't you say? They milked that cow dry, friend.

In the books, the legend was that Hakeswill couldn't be killed except by someone he had tried and failed to kill. In the books, it's Sharpe who finally kills Hakeswill after the firing squad fails to do so - thus upholding the legend. It's still an amazing acted scene, but I thought it was a cop out that they didn't have Sharpe perform the coup de grâce

I always thought it was rather fitting, a final insult to the myth of Hakeswill who wasn't a monster or a nightmare but a sad broken twisted man.

10% of what made Hakeswill such a perfect a bastard was the character. 90% of it was the fact Pete Postlethwaite played him and Pete Postlethwaite'd the role. Also, comedic edit of him still not being dead and needing another two or three shots? :P

Sharpes wife would still be alive if Sharpe had just had Obadiah executed for trying to rape his wife in the 1st place. This was one villain Sharpe could've gotten rid of early if he had just acted like an officer

Yup! 16 episodes, 14 in the 90s, 2 made in the 00s. They do differ from the books a bit, mostly because of budget.

Peter Postlethwaite. He was an incredible actor and a very decent guy. Yet, he could play some of the worst villains I've ever seen. He died in 2011 at age 64. Way, way too young for a talent and human being like that.
