I actually really like the topic of this video and the idea of the author, or writer, not being the definitive authority of interpreting a story or work. A good example of this JK Rowling trying to change the Harry Potter books after the fact or George Lucas with the Special Editions of the Original Trilogy.

To me it's an oversimplification. Context matters, especially with the obviously implied meaning, vs what's left to interpretation, both of which the author is in control. But if someone interprets something that the author forgot, or didn't mean to be vague, then that's the time the author is not in control of the interpretation. IMO. Also, bringing Johari's Window, one author's perspective may be unintentionally obscured by his own ideologies. So by bringing in multiple elements into a complete story, a reader might have a different perspective of these combined elements. Just like how your perception of yourself may be totally different from how others see you.

Well I always diliberated on this subject. And have held the position that Death of the Author isn't valid (or canon) to interpretation of said author. But my problem is that I didn't understand what it meant to be an author. Never challenged the existence of such a concept within literature. On top of my lacking understanding in purpose of literature. Infinitely deferred indeed.

@WebCamParrot, Hey I need you to settle this debate once and for all. I and my brother have debated Cosmic armor superman being above the plot. My stance is that CAS is above the plot and bound by the literal and actual Book of the comic and writer(physical action of the writing of his story and everything is the comic) of the comic the actual pen and ink forming the story of his character, the color of his suit, etc. My brother's Stance is that he is bound by the plot and when he says this he agrees with my stance but he thinks because CAS cannot write himself on the comic book page and this would include his story there for he is bound by the plot because he cannot write his plot or story himself. I've told him over and over that this would mean that he is bound by the BOOK because his character does not exist, his story, his hair, his suit, the blue and red, etc before it is written in the book. Whatever is written in the book he can overturn, whatever the writer writes he can overturn, his story and plot he can overturn, So if he can overturn the PLOT then how is bound by it. Can you PLEASE give us your thoughts and answer, and victor of this debate. Is CAS bound by the plot in my brother's sense, or is he bound by the book and ink of the pen which is my stance?

I believe DoTA should only be used when things within a story or canon contradict. Like if an author were to clarify something in their work after it was published and it falls in line, I wouldn't disregard that. However, if an author makes a statement which has been contradicted numerous times in their work or story, then that statement can be disregarded.
