You’re right. Branagh is just awful as Poirot. So was Ustinov, unfortunately. David Suchet came very close to perfection. Thank you for yet another excellent and thorough review.

all I can say is I first watched the David Suchet version of this story, then watched this one back to back. I found myself hating the 2022 version more and more with each moment. I don't think the person writing these movies is a fan of Agatha Christie, more someone that is given a base idea of the story and told who the killer is. As for the backstory part there is a story that goes into Poirot's past when he was a young man before the world war I, "The Chocolate Box," and lets just say it was very backstory.
