correction: pyle wasn't shot while in the jeep. he and the other occupants fled the jeep into a ditch for cover. pyle raised his head to look for one of his buddies and took a machine gun round to the head. also, it's not bronze medal, it's bronze star. a very big difference in the meaning of that award for valor. and it's not pronounced "I.E. Shima", it's pronounced "ye shma"
