Death Stranding Director's Cut comes with a slew of updates and new content, including but not limited to new weapons, a new vehicle, new ways to deliver cargo, and even a brand new story mission. So here are the biggest things to expect when booting up the Director's Cut on PlayStation 5.
Unlike the recently released Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, which came with one big piece of new content in the form of the Iki Island expansion, Death Stranding is instead opting for a ton of smaller tweaks and additions, which can make it a bit more confusing when trying to identify exactly what it is you're getting with this upgrade. 1:11 Wrong. It is a real ultra wide screen mode with increased fov. There is no content cut from the picture, it's the other way around (content ist cut from the wide screen mode left and right to fit the picture of the standard mode into 16:9 ratio). Even the cutscenes have more information now left and right, with the ultra wide screen mode.

It's not real in the sense that you can't play on an ultra-wide display without bars because there simply is no support for that on the PS5. It just outputs a standard 16:9 aspect ratio with bars. While the picture is indeed ultra-wide with the expected fov increase, it's not ultra-wide in what one would expect in a technical sense, in all the ways that it is often talked about in the industry.

Kinda a shame its no longer Monster Energy drink. Never liked the stuff, but seeing it for so long during all the game-play really made me link it to the game. Gun range is a big improvement as it actually helps you prepare for the main quest. Was just playing it non lethal and sneaky all the time, and then the story drops you in a full blown combat scenario every so often, nothing prepared me for any of that!

The ultrawide option looks really cool. One of the biggest draws to play games on PC for me is being able to play in 21:9 or wider - I'd love to see more PS5 games emulate that with top/bottom letterboxing like this. With a large TV, cutting the vertical pixels seems like it would be worth the increased FOV

As someone who played through the OG death stranding on PC in 1080p Ultrawide 21:9 it was vastly superior being able to see more about Sam and more of the beautiful environment. This letter box feature allows people to play Ultrawide with a normal 16:9 monitor, which is awesome for someone like me who wants to play UW but had to upgrade to a 1440p 16:9 monitor instead. 21:9 will always be superior to 16:9 but for some reason normal monitors are always 16:9 (despite the fact that 16:10 is still better than 16:9.. and 21:9 is better than 16:9 too, it seems we've gone backwards somehow).

Also there is new content even in the first episodes already amd knowimg Kojima there will be secrets and hidden stuff. Games feels different and better. Love it all over again.

Just a comment on #1, digital foundry just did a video on this and both things you mentioned you misleading. Quality mode does have frame rate dips, and the ultra wide mode isn’t simply adding black bars, it does indeed increase the FOV. Didn’t expect much from IGN but just wanted to make sure others know.
