After delivering his cargo, Sam was recruited by a BRIDGES Corpse Disposal Team (CDT) to help incinerate a corpse and prevent a catastrophic Voidout. During the mission, BTs attacked their vehicle, causing a crash and leaving Sam alone after his teammates were taken. Surrounded by BTs, Sam retrieved a discarded Bridge Baby (BB) and encountered a massive humanoid BT before a blinding explosion transported him to a desolate beach filled with dead sea creatures. There, he discovered his unconscious self, swam toward it, and awoke holding the BB near a massive impact crater.
