The more frigid the temps in one area, the more extreme the heat in another. The Earth has always balanced itself out because it won't push climate UP without the effects of that ending in a downward trend of temps. We have had record cold weather, record snowfalls, and record rains - all in the past few years, since the temperatures have been recorded. The crisis isn't the weather; it's the lack of education about the weather and the "experts" pushing an agenda onto the citizens of this planet.

I stayed up all night and into the next morning watching a huge flood that stayed up high and the water did not go back down until early the next morning. That is how much flood water that was up in our creek that had to flow out of here. Our creek is at least 10 miles long with two major forks.

All of east Kentucky is extremely poverty stricken. Central an western side of Kentucky are like 2 completely different states an or country. It used to be thriving here when there was coal mines. Them coal mines have been shut down by the thousands causing so many to lose jobs. It’s affected this area for years an the state continues to do nothing about bringing jobs to this area. Many many people I know have to drive in excess of an hr + to work a decent paying job.

One witness said that there was a foot of water filling the house every 5 minutes! At least 26 people reported dead so far now… A family of 6 was on the roof when their entire house was swept away! They said on the news that they held onto the children and a tree for as long as they could but the fast moving water ended up ripping their 4 children from their arms! The news reports are catastrophic! Water pouring into apartments through the kitchen tiles, even backing up tubs and toilets, flooding homes until furniture ends up floating! Some houses have drained out leaving multiple feet of mud and debris, if the house is left at all!!!

This is heartbreaking for the people of Kentucky. But, why are today's journalist so unable to describe precise locations descriptions? A vague general reference to "eastern" Kentucky and one or two towns mentioned, how about a map for viewers to see, or better yet how about you actually do journalist research and name the actual rivers that have crested and contributed to the flooding?

I'm sorry, but, as a native Kentuckian, this is some of the most ill-researched, arguably lazy reporting I've ever seen about my state. "Hindman" is mispronounced; it should be pronounced as though one is describing a hind end (I'm serious). The high school in Buckhorn was referenced alongside a playground, without any context of whether there happens to be an elementary school next door. Do better, ABC.

Buckhorn is K-12 combined in one location. They are so far out in the county that it wasn't possible to consolidate them with the county's other two high school's in the mid-90's.

As to your first, here's an appropriate copy-and-past of my Reply to a certain "Short Shorts" -- Would you feel better if ABC News pulled out their reporters, camera operators, sound crew, helicopter and drone crews, satellite transmission expert(s), drivers, pilots, images + sound editors -- and went over to Missouri and covered that region of this catastrophic flooding? THAT WAY you wouldn't be traumatized by New York-based individuals 'blowing' the proper pronunciation of Hindman. Folks in Louisville, Kentucky pronounce Kentucky's largest city different from residents of Louisville, Mississippi. But, individuals after enduring tragedy from either district, countless millions safely and securely viewing from afar ABC News' on-the-spot, well-produced, hard-hitting, tears-inducing documentation of NEVER-BEFORE experienced devastation, having a cow over the LOCALS' way of pronouncing their fair communities would be on the bottom of the list of concerns, gripes, registered complaints, beefs, etc. A thank you to Dee Dee Wells for a clear, accurate explanation reflecting circumstances going back a quarter of a century (i.e., "the mid '90s). And a shout-out to ABC News for this compelling report, nearly six minutes in length -- which in today's cluttered media universe is indeed generous.

@@scvandy3129 As a journalist, I have to respond by saying that the anchor getting the pronunciation wrong is understandable, but the on-scene reporter should not have. You may not think so, but getting details right is important, and that reporter may be kicking himself now for not confirming the correct pronunciation. I can only speculate that locals were too busy and polite to correct him. I’m not even going to comment on your vitriolic copy and paste, which I had the displeasure of already reading once. 🙄

If this happened in a blue state, especially California the comment section would be filled with hate. People would be blaming them for living there. Trump blamed them for not raking forest. This all said I feel terrible for these people. I too lost my home to a micro burst in 2016. I wish them the best. We have been having flooding issues in my town the last few years and I spoke to the sewer cleaning crew and ask them if there was anything wrong with the pipes and he said they are fine and in good shape. He said the issue is the 100 year storm is happening a couple times a year now. I am very sorry for your losses especially for those that lost loved ones. We need to work and hang together and support these people anyway we can.
