Oh it is a fantastic place! We were supposed to have a trip back this year but sadly the floods from summer sort of derailed those plans. 😔 Hopefully in the not too distant future though!

For a place to not have much of anything there's still a strange Beauty to all that nothingness. Thanks for for all that you do to share these vids with us.

ok the goal for the next Death Valley video, we need a go fund me or patreon for the "Westward Expansion" project. You need to recreate the covered wagon experience or an IRL Oregon Trail. We can work out the details, but then you will be able to answer the question if you can just plow through the brush or need a trail!

LOVE IT! Only if there's a budget for costumes and a trusty dog on the wagon. And a pack mule. These things are necessities to do it right. I'm sure the park system would be absolutely cool with this endeavor. 😂

Did you make it up to Racetrack Playa? The rock-hard lakebed is even more strange. The edges are smooth and rounded over. The "race track" stones paths are the only raised surface. It's pretty amazing. You are allowed to walk out and observe (don't touch) the rocks and their tracks.

Not yet. One of the places we haven't gone to yet as we don't have the proper vehicle to get there.

You are braver than me tasting that salt! You are right though, its amazing to think how people made it across some places before their were roads. I'm thankful what used to take months takes us hours now.

Haha! And to think it STILL takes forever getting around Death Valley National Park! 😂

Rule of thumb, what looks like ten miles is closer to one hundred. That's not just Death Valley that is any Western country.

pretty normal for California gas for awhile now...

Pretty expensive at the time we filmed this, especially compared to stations outside the park. If only we knew how things would go in the future! 😅

I never get sick of your search for Slim. We camped for 1 week in Death Valley this February. Hadn't been there in over 25 years. We thought we would get tired of the desert in a couple of days. Nope! Just scratched the surface in 1 whole week.
@CactusAtlas2 жыл бұрын
Yay! Well, we have one more search left in us for Slim but it's a very detailed search so it might take a while. 😉 And Death Valley is enormous so one week likely isn't even enough. We've been twice and still haven't seen all of it! 😅

Are you going to be doing any collaborations with #Wonderhussy while in Death Valley

We're fans and would love to but she probably has no idea who we are and haven't been back to that area since this was filmed. 😅

Panamints are actually not as far different from Sierras in height as you might think/ Telescope peak out there is over 11,000 / tallest sierra is obviously much higher at over 14 but most of them are in the 10-12 range... // super fun attempt at "crossing Death Valley ! " hahaha! great video/ beautiful scenes and good info too// ps sadness, my local gas in northern CA is at 6 and up now/ DV has been hitting 8-10!!! /may 2022
@CactusAtlas2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Interesting about the Panamints! Never paid much attention to the elevation of their peaks. And yeah, I chuckled when Glenn finished editing this video and I watched it. We filmed this back in November and I immediately looked up the price of gas at that same station and it was somewhere around $8.50/gallon if I remember right. I laughed and said, "Well, this video is pretty dated now." 😂
@potatothorn2 жыл бұрын
@@CactusAtlas hahah yeah same/ i have a video also showing the price around $6 and by the time i posted it was way higher

Your plan was not good for sure. Best I could make out from google earth It is about 18 km across. Devils golf course is maybe 1/5 the way across?

Great video! If anyone has the chance, I'd highly recommend visiting places like this in person. Videos and pictures certainly don't do places like this justice versus seeing the scale in person.
@CactusAtlas2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! It's easy to see video or photos and think that expanse of the park is smaller than it really is. Really has to be seen in person. 👍
@DovieRuthAuthor2 жыл бұрын
The two different textures of the salt beds are mystifying. One was relatively flat with salt crystals in the seams. The Devil's golf course was a bumpy ankle-twister. Makes me wonder why they are close but so different.
@CactusAtlas2 жыл бұрын
I was actually curious about that and asked Glenn just the other day! 😅 From what I am finding online I think it may have to do with the elevation. Because it isn't the lowest point in the park, the water doesn't pool up and smooth things out, but instead seeps down along cracks and the salt rises up forming the ridges.
