Can you set up camp anywhere ? Or does it have certain places where you can stargaze and maybe spend the night ?
@lexbenjamin5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if you can but there's no one to stop you from doing so. You're pretty much on your own which can be dangerous if you're there during the hottest part of the year. During the hottest months death is a real possibility if you don't have a way to stay hydrated and cool.

Can you see it with your bear eyes or will you need a camera
@lexbenjamin3 жыл бұрын
You don't need a camera at all. I got some pics with my cellphone believe it or not. I'm making a video that should be up next week.

@Lex Benjamin. I'm all kinds of confused here. Did I catch the hook without the bait? My understanding is that you went to record your experience seeing the Milky Way. Other than apparent heatstroke, what else happened? What emotion did you capture on film? The rest I can research myself.
@lexbenjamin4 жыл бұрын
Emotion? Awe, amazement, wonder. I hope anyway. Not sure I was trying to hook anyone. Just an attempt to inform people where they can easily see the Milky Way. Astrophotography is difficult. I tried to redeem myself last year, but couldn't get the shutter speed figured out.

@@lexbenjamin If you were to just describe bliss. That would work for me in the video. The Milky Way is meant to be admired from our pedestal. Astrophotography is a separate beast from observation. The correct gear can go a long way to success. If you have marginal success without the most sophisticated gear, I would say that you have an avenue and information that you should share with the frustrated among us. I had the wrong idea in thinking that the experience would be told through the unaided eye and a human's awe of what is true. Heck, my eyes aren't any different from the eyes of 5,000 years ago.
@lexbenjamin4 жыл бұрын
I understand. You can definitely see it via the human eye at that location, but I was also trying to capture what I was seeing for other people. Really, just trying to get people to look up and think about our relative position.

I'm going back to Death Valley for another video just because of you. Lol Look for a new video.

Lex Benjamin no no it’s around 2 hours. I was literally in both places last week. Beautiful place, but the full moon killed the night sky.
@lexbenjamin5 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I went on a new moon. Pitch black except for the milkway.
@Chi21Rican5 жыл бұрын
Lex Benjamin so the Milky Way was not seen or just not as potent in color? In your video, you didn’t show what you seen.
@lexbenjamin5 жыл бұрын
The milkway was definitely seen. It's completely visible for a few months in the summer when the moon isn't out. In Colorado I was much higher so it seemed just a little brighter. Not by much though. It was too hot and I think I was getting sick because I wasn't sweating. I totally forgot to capture it. 119 at 10:45 when I left. I'm going back in a few months with a better camera.
