Bruce Willis doesn't convey any emotion in it though. Try Death Sentence (2007) instead. Death Sentence is a far better movie and Kevin Bacon really does act with lots of emotion.

I have to disagree. I love Bruce Willis and can watch him all day but this film is unemotional, simplistic film making. I watched it though, out of respect for The Willis. Check out the original - it is visceral.

I know it's not official, but I will always consider this movie a prelude to Die Hard even if Willis is 65 years old. It has all the characteristics...daughter's name is Lucy (cmon), "John" learns how to shoot, he takes matters into his own hands since he doesn't want to wait for the cops, and perhaps gives him a reason to join the law enforcement as a detective since he enjoys finding out about the small details. In my mind, "John" is still a young adult in this movie, and this is the making of the badassery in Die Hard.

I agree, there is no one like Bronson in Deathwish but the Same can be said of Willis in Die Hard. Bruce owns Die Hard and if someone tried to remake it, it wouldn’t be the same. Bronson owns Death Wish. The original was more quiet and unique especially for the time. Also it didn’t glorify the violence the same way this remake does. There was a heart in the original that isn’t in this new one. In the original if memory serves, he never caught his wife’s killers/daughter’s rapists (one of which was played by a young Jeff Goldblum). So the original sort of left this hole in your heart, a sadness an emptiness. Definitely not the same movie.

What many here fail to recognize is the particular import this story has to the current political climate surrounding the gun debate. Is gun ownership and personal protection a natural right? How far can we go to protect ourselves and our family? For this, and The fact that Bruce Willis is perfect for the role, this movie should be good and relivant. I'm looking forward to it.

All I can say is GUILTY PLEASURE. This film is simply incredible. Both stupidly ridiculous and serious drama it just mixes way too much genres to work. Literally you've seen this type of story million times before , but somehow with addition of paycheck version of Bruce Willis and really dark humour it does provide solid entertainment. You could practically call this a CONTRIVANCES : THE MOVIE because nothing is spontaneous here and you can guess everything that happens like you personally have written the script. It is self aware in a way and definitely a beer and pizza picture, but other than that don't go in expecting anything masterfully crafted and though provoking because this is turn your brain off experience. 2.5/5
