You are exactly right. This movie was incredibly enjoyable. Cruise is a great actor. He should have taken the same story and changed the name. You should really read the books, though. You will find that the characters size plays a pivotal role in every interaction and scenario in the story. Even the fact that he can not ride comfortably in most cars, and can threaten even the toughest guys without saying a word. Cruise is not believable as the guy that hardened military and mercenary spec ops guys would be cautious of just from looks alone.

Strange as it may seem, Tom is very believable in the role. There was an outcry when Michael Keaton was chosen as Batman due to his stature, but he is arguably the best Batman. Now for a real story, I met an ordinary looking,, small to medium size guy who just happened to be an elite soldier who took down guys much taller and supposedly more physically stronger than him. It’s down to strength of character, ability and professionalism that will always surpass looks.

This is why Tom did such a good portrayal in these movies. He's not big and overpowering, so he instead used strategy to disable the opponents. Strikes to do quick disables then follow ups when needed to put them down. Only the frame at the motel (Sandy/the girl) is the one I wouldn't buy. That would send me alarm bells that it was a frame-up. Reacher would not do wanton slaughter to a woman, no matter the circumstance, because She was never a credible threat. Even at the Auto shop, he only gave her leading looks, never direct hostility.

I personally enjoyed both films. Watched tbe movies before even knowing the character.but. enjoyed the first season of reacher a lot. Not so much the second season. But i still enjoyed the movies.
@markgrehan37266 ай бұрын
Yeah the writing in the second season felt really cliched, Jack telling everyone including people who should have arrested him that he was just going to kill everyone over and over again got dumb real fast. And the group dynamics felt off for some reason even though the actors did a great job. We had the love interest the comedian and the stoic sidekick, just didn't work as well as those style of character from season one.
@chalion83995 ай бұрын
@@markgrehan3726 I do have problems with the series and some of the novels go very dark too, which I think will be tough to plots to keep using. The 2nd season really diverted from the intent of the novel, which to me, went wrong. But they couldn't use the "Davy Crockett (nuclear device)" as a plot device because it would have been too great a time lapse (50+ years since decommissioning), to be believable.

imo, he doesn't fit the reacher character BUT a transient thug who tries to fight for right once his back is against the wall? yeah, TC does that well. But Reacher's height is part of his character, and in the books he thinks he's not really hollywood attractive.
