That carbon chisel tip on the swhacker is there to break bone so that the wing blades only have to cut very little if any at all on a shoulder blade so really it doesn't matter if you hit it dead center of the shoulder blade blade

Rich, you are on the right track 4sure! Ranchfairy has a good Vital V vid that I always recommend to anyone wanting to know where to aim. I can say with confidence the last 12 deer I’ve shot were straight up the leg 2/3 way down broadside. No quartering to, and if quartering away aimed right in the crease. All recoveries were 40 yds average and most I saw them drop! All shots were 20 yds or under. Bow I’m shooting is only a little over 300fps w/heavy arrows and COC fixed sharp broadheads. I process all my own deer and believe it or not the 2 blade single bevels have done the most internal damage

My setup consists of: BearX 380 with 180lbs psi 385 grain top archery arrows from EBay 160 grain Thunderhead broadheads. (All sighted in at 20 yards. Need a little practice at 30) Nearly punches holes clean though my target. Hopeful for a good hunt this month! 😁 Greetings from Saskatchewan!

I don't have the best monitor here but that shot looked like a bottom of the heart hit. The bottom is muscle, not chamber and leads to a long trail. Helped a neighbor work buck over multiple properties, getting permission as we went. His shot, like yours was just an inch low. We pushed it to keep it bleeding and because coyotes usually get deer within 2 hours here. My knife finished the deer and did the field autopsy. If the wings on the mechanical had entered the heart vertical instead of horizontal it would have been down within 50-60 yards. I am still a heart guy but always try for the top half to third. I do pass a lot of shots others would take. You two did right by the deer. I enjoyed both videos! blessings

all hail bungie, great video Rich, first day of our second crossbow seasons begins tomorrow, deer sightings are down for me this year here because the acorns are at record yield this year and they can feed almost any where without travel, seen a few rubs and a refreshening of an old, all in all im looking forward to another harvest or two

Couldn't agree more. A friend of mine arrowed a monster 9 point last year using a Barnett Whitetail II shooting roughly 350 fps with a 100 grain mechanical (not sure of the total bolt weight). At 25 yards, the bolt blew right through the scapula on the closest side and exited just behind the scapula on the opposite side. Double lung and the deer was dead within 20 yards. These new crossbows change the game.

Quartering too shots can be tricky. I try to wait now for broadside and quartering away if possible. The Bunjie triangle just got smaller. 😂. Now that I have the X1 and the Matrix 380 I moved my bait pile to 30 yards at my favorite tree stand spot. 2 deer down there so far. More to come.

Rich, another great video! Great point about the backlight making it hard to detect the angle of the deer compared to broadside. Shadows and background can do the same. Glad someone is preaching shooting more forward, it is much needed within the community in general. Your channel and books have made me a better hunter and "cheap me" buying a faster crossbow has made a big difference. (well more than one...but that is another story) Keep it up!

Great video. I shot my buck this year in a very similar angle (quartering to). The arrow from my Tenpoint Siege 425 entered inside (in front of) the right shoulder and exited behind the left shoulder. He snowplowed 37 yards and crashed within sight. Centerpunched the heart. Can't complain about that at all. For what it's worth, I was shooting AJ's Custom Arrow Reaper Shafts w/150 gr. Sevr Robustos (486 gr. total arrow weight @ 392 fps with 0.845 slugs of momentum). After four years as a crossbow hunter, I like advantages like that.

Great video I’ve had shot placement issues in the past with my old crossbow it shot 300fps with a 430 grain bolt and the problem with that is where I hunt most shot opportunities are between 35-42 yards now my newer set up is slinging a 468 grain bolt at 350 fps and the deer I shot last season and this season so far haven’t moved more than two inches before they are hit at around 40 yards always wait for head up at that distance 👍

I'm sitting here thinking about that excalibur tac 2 and was like... death by bunji arrow weights... I wonder if one could have a lighter arrow for on the fly farther away shots and a heavy arrow set up for closer range... Anyway, you and wyvern zombie slayers and swacker 150g gor me a buck, and my 10 year old got a pass through a few weeks ago on a doe on his second hunt. Set him up on an Excaliber banshee that clocks in at 264fps with your set up. Thanks. I drive out to Omaha every week I will eventually listen to your books. Before watching your videos I knew crossbows needed bolts of a certain length, that was about it.

Opening day Crossbow tomorrow. Using my new Killer Instinct 415 Burner using Rage Hypodermic. The heart shot worked last season using my Barnett 370 using NAP 100 grain Doublecross. The 8 point Buck ran 40 yards. No blood trail or exit. The tip was barely sticking out the opposite side. Hopefully the Rage will give me the Red Carpet Treatment!
@packerjh212 күн бұрын
Rage is never an upgrade! I recommend a broadhead that can actually hit bone. Do not shoot anywhere this video showed u with a rage. The slogan "Rage in the cage" was a marketing ploy to get people away from shooting anything but broadside perfect shots(even though ribs typically rip Rages apart)

My crossbow is a little older and slower, it’s advertised at 340fps. Recently I was sighting it in and with a relatively heavy arrow I shot through a corner of the target and through some .060” steel I use as my backstop. I’m sure it’s going right through a shoulder blade.
@Cloud4hundred2013 күн бұрын
Crazy part is I just messed up big time. Must have hit my scope and bow was shooting 4 inches right and two inches high. Guess where my arrow hit. Yup perfect landing on that shoulder bone area. Now I’m locked and loaded again. You live and you learn. Long story short the buck got away. Hoping I get cam pictures he’s alive but so far not looking good.

I get asked about yardage all the time. For example they ask if a deer is 25 yards away, do they use the 20 yard or 30 yard pin. Im sure there's many out there with a similar question especially if new to crossbow. Maybe you could do a video kinda explaining, and help with that.

Headshot is definitely a kill…with a gun. Never tried with a crossbow but killed plenty with headshots. It’s a good point our crossbows now a days do have plenty of energy to get through shoulders

If I'm correct, the guy from "Back Yard Broadheads" sights his crossbow in to hit a few inches low at 40 yards to compensate for deer dropping. I'm not certain about this but I think that's what I understood from a video he uploaded recently.
@Deathbybunjie13 күн бұрын
I saw that, not my preferred method but we all have our own methods. I just aim where I want the arrow to go. Inside 35, ducking is insignificant with my equipment.
@michaelcurtis811412 күн бұрын
@Deathbybunjie I agree with aiming where you want the arrow to go. I'm shooting 367fps with a 480gn arrow and I also think ducking is insignificant inside of 40 with my equipment.

It’s true that new developments in technology offer new improvements in performance. We’ve all seen it. Certainly there are some consequences to advances in technology. That’s no different from anything. Faster crossbows can require more up keep or changing strings at more frequent intervals, or other things. Still modern crossbows can do a lot of things better & more reliably. As we have seen crossbows have improved and advanced nearly as fast as computers in the last 15 or so years. More states have allowed them and the market has expanded. The have become exponentially more popular. From the standpoint of the 505/515, I’m willing to bet that a deer on high alert could not get out of the way of the shot out to 50 yards. Not to mention that that arrow will break through bones and all at such a distance. Although I’ve never shot that far with a crossbow, I wouldn’t be surprised. In truth, just for academic discussion, this may even be true at 60 yards. The point is not that you’re going to attempt to take such a shot at that kind of distance. The point is that the conventional range shots Are even better. Angling shots or other issues that would’ve been problematic 10 years ago or so less of a problem today. You get what I’m saying..

@chrisruzsa279813 күн бұрын
The worst thing archery has done was go to light inferior setups for hunting. Straight up the leg lower 1/3 rd heart/ lungs or both. Have a good decent setup thats hard hitting and don’t worry about heavy bones. Or anything else, feom long bow to crossbow you need 0.8 slugs of momentum with high ke forget about the speed 500-600 grains is a hunting arrow and bolt when you have that tuned flying perfectly you’ll pass through and kill your prey. Aiming back is bad if compound guys went to back to using hunting arrows for hunting they wouldn’t have problems either……
@jobinmcdastard342613 күн бұрын
For years I used a 45# recurve with a Magnus stinger buzzcut 4 blade. Put a heavy insert with crazy FOC. Total weight 560-575 grains. Thing was slow as hell but got pass throughs.
@chrisruzsa279813 күн бұрын
@ yup it’s amazing what happens with proper setups truly is. I could not believe that today’s equipment would fail at killing deer or passing through yet they do. Blows my mind that an 80 lb compound bow can deflect an arrow off a rib cage of a white tailed deer. People call this hunting?
@jobinmcdastard342613 күн бұрын
@@chrisruzsa2798 for sure. This was back when I had no idea of fps and I didn’t even use a range finder. I just marked off distances with a yardage wheel and colored ribbon. I just thought the heavier the arrow and sharper the broadhead, the better the penetration.
@chrisruzsa279813 күн бұрын
@@jobinmcdastard3426 yup agreed I think this speed race killed this lifestyle or is killing it at least. Don’t get me wrong speed has its place but only if the KE and momentum reflects it too. The more you can get all three up the more devastating the effect. But speed with light arrows and bolts is absolutely worthless.
