ON GP
i'm fucking tired of all the perks
i've tried nothing everything works
for less i'm worth i've served my bid
all fuck life wasn't what it is
all fuck life was just a bridge
i seen some free landed some tricks
far i see high time man quit
won't let you know when i get goin
phone ring too long
phone ring too long i'm probably gone
ring tone jingle my swan song
i'll show you how to leave well enough alone
i'm not this world this on cue world
i fall back concoct new worlds
i fall out in throbbing swirls
i fall until i stop this world
i fall the fuck off this world
i live down the street from you've noticed me i've never seen you
wonder what the fuck i do
listen up you nosy bitch listen close
my most recent purchase old black rope
gonna learn how to tie it hang it in my chamber
perfect reminder occult i'm made of
come try it out whenever you wanna
last night three thirty in the morning death on my front porch
can feel him itching to take me with him hail death fuck you waiting for
like a question no one mention he turns around hands me his weapon
he slurs use at your discretion its been a pleasure stefan
head on like dead on like grey
death in your way not in my way i got my way
i was in my way crept out my way kept out my way
i'm on one like bae you're on your way way way way
i'm fucking tired of all the perks
i've tried nothing everything works
for less i'm worth i've served my bid
all fuck life wasn't what it is
all fuck life was just a bridge
i seen some free landed some tricks
far i see high time man quit
won't let you know when i get goin
phone ring too long
don't you worry impossible for anything to be a big deal
i'm in no weary my vital post dated but clearly been ages since life had appeal
far more than fascination my second nature chant kill cause i can
this body by my own hands
my friends and family won't understand
so i stay in the end don't make none to me
if wasn't for them i'd make that decision on gp
had to do it all again i'd make that decision on gp
all the nights i don't die for you
wouldn't believe how many nights i ain't died for you on gp
not that i care i'd be a liar if i sat here claiming i'd exit in a minute
but i can't say i wouldn't i have my limits

It’s never too late. Music doesn’t have an expiration date. Some music may be more of a product of an era than others, and not really stand the test of time. Regardless, nearly all of DG’s projects have withstood that test and then some. Always be willing to go back and listen to stuff you didn’t get a chance to listen to initially

This may be the most triumphant song about depression ever. It's incredibly sad but also powerful beyond words.
@0412lennon
@0412lennon 2 жыл бұрын
As much as this song is dreadful and filled with sadness it is as hopeful as any song I have ever heard. Singing it like he’s being honest about himself and allowing to be ok with those feelings can be therapeutic in nature. This is a person that’s ready not to die but to learn how to let go of the idea of dying right now.
@AAARREUUUGHHHH
@AAARREUUUGHHHH Жыл бұрын
@@0412lennon It's so cathartic. The entire song is like the feeling of just getting all of it out of your head, just being straight up and honest with yourself finally after bottling things in so long. Only then can you move on.
@sleep6837
@sleep6837 Жыл бұрын
The sound to me is just sticking it to everyone that ever doubted you, sticking it to yourself, to your depression. You could give up and die and be free, but you won't. You staying alive is defying the depression, forcing yourself to overcome it. It's basically a bitter triumphant way of staying alive out of spite, just to prove something

On some real shit though, this is actually the saddest DG song I've ever heard. It's hard for me to really connect with Stefan when he's all about primal emotion and anger and violence, and although he does talk about sadness quite often, he puts it in a light where it's only due to drugs or he ends up saying "but fuck it, I don't care" somewhere in the song. "It's been a pleasure, Stefan" hit me so fucking hard. My point is, I've never seen Stefan as a human until now, I've only seen him as MC Ride. This is a man with a life, a family. He presents himself like he doesn't give a shit, but the same primal instincts he goes off of for anger and power give him fear and sadness. I like it.

I don’t think anybody has noticed the organ that comes in at 1:31 followed by a much more mellow version of the melody is supposed to signify some sort of comfort. The comfort of death basically, since organs are usually stereotyped around funerals or death in general it would only be fitting. MC even starts rapping about buying a rope, as if there’s comfort of death. The song gets much more intense once he realises he can’t reach that comfort because of all of the consequences it would cause. Then the song goes back to that organ melody, signifying this is an endless loop of wanting death and realising you can’t have it.

this is kinda a late reply, but really they've all talked about their feelings in their own ways. zach's solo career and his career with Hella let's him show his emotions through his ever-so erratic drumming. call me crazy, but the way he uses his drums conveys how he feels. and andy, I'd say hes the most mysterious of the group. never speaks during interviews. posts captionless pictures of himself on Instagram. even then you can kinda determine how he feels from how a song sounds, because when it comes down it, hes the one who orchestrates how the final product sounds.

Nobody in my life was safe to speak to about it so this band became my outlet. I still cry every time I listen to this song because I know for a fact I would be dead without it. If his lyrics are any indication I know Stefan is predisposed to self loathing like myself but I would hope he could know that I did not die because of him and his art. I’m 21 now

This is one of the greatest artistic statements of all time. Death Grips as a band has always made the conscious effort to stay at an arms length from their fanbase, not just as a personal choice, but as a core fundamental of their identity. It's tough to call their music impersonal, but there has always been an obvious wall between listener and artist. I would assume their writing has personal meaning to them, but to work backwards from the end product to try and figure out what these people are actually like is impossible. So for them to release a song that bridges that lyrical divide in such an obvious way, after years of shying away from doing so, while also simultaneously embracing more conventional song structure, it's nothing short of a courageous move; they have dropped the wall completely and are letting you see right through to the other end. As a listener, this is not only gratifying, but it adds to their legend. It show's they are capable of being this authentic, but will never do it on your time. They had something they wanted to share, and that's all you're getting. The importance of this song is verifiable by the reaction it has and continues to receive. This kind of outcome from you being personal cannot be achieved unless you've built up an association between you and the opposite, and I don't think anyone in any medium has subverted that expectation better than Death Grips.

Just the incredibly angry, exhausted and distorted delivery of the last line - “I’m fucking tired” - really hits home in the context of the whole song. That is an ALTEC A7 Voice of the Theater speaker. One of the most well respected loudspeakers ever made. Designed for cinemas back in the 60's. Because of the dynamic range necessary for sound reproduction in film (think explosions or machinery or sirens for example) they were designed to handle an extremely wide range of frequencies from close to sub-sonic bass to practically inaudible highs without distorting or losing authenticity at any level. Accordingly they can handle contemporary music like dub step or techno despite the fact that when they were designed no one could have imagined that bass would become so pronounced in the music of the future. They produce one decibel per watt and can be deafening even when driven by a low wattage tube amp. Like David Klipsch, James B Lansing believed in efficient speakers. Hence the strategy of using horns in front of the constituent drivers. The woofer at the bottom is situated in a bass horn. The hf driver is also similarly situated in large tuned horn. The tweeter in this speaker weighs more than the typical subwoofer these days. As a sound wave travels through a funnel from narrow to wide, it's height increases in proportion to the increasing width of the channel it is confined withing. The height of the wave or amplitude denotes the level or volume of the sound in question. By using horns it is possible to exponentially increase the volume produced by a speaker without using electronic amplification. Making the speaker more efficient and requiring less output from a power amplifier and thereby keeping unintended ambient electronic noise innate to circuits to a minimum. They have an excellent signal to noise ration in audio parlay. Eric Clapton and Jim Hendrix both dedicated entire chapters of their autobiographies to extolling the virtues of these speakers. Getting a pair in the 70's was like a rite of passage for successful rock stars. They cost as much as a house back then. A castle and a pair of VOT speakers. This combination was the gold standard for rock royalty. Of course film makers had similar appreciation for them too. Roman Polanski had a pair at his place in LA. The listening party that his girlfriend Sharon Tate hosted and that was subsequently invaded by Manson's acolytes was held in this house. Sharon and the folks invited were listening to the Beatles White album this pair of VOT speakers. On of only a handful of privately owned VOT systems in the country at the time. In the wake of the bloodbath that occurred that night Manson's minions sat down and listened to the entire album before leaving. The sound system was far beyond anything that they had ever experienced before and in combination with the Beatles it blew their minds (further). They paid fealty to the fidelity by quoting lyrics from the album in the form of graffiti written in blood. HELTER SKELTER was one phrase that they picked up on and then daubed on the wall with fingers dipped in viscera. This tribute was not used by ALTEC LANSING to promote their speaker line for some reason. ECHO ECHO ECHO ECHO slash slash slash. '

While you’ve got time during quarantine, I’d definitely recommend giving the guy’s video a watch, if you love Death Grips it’ll really hit a chord with you, and honestly while I was watching this middle aged Jewish therapist go over everything that works so well in this song and with Death Grips in general, it really put a smile on my face

thanks from me too. I haven't watched it, i'm just now starting a relisten while reading the lyrics and will watch this right after. I've vaguely known the gravity this particular track is supposed to have and have been saving it up for a quiet minute where I'm in the right frame of mind i.e. now. And it's funny, because, as unlikely as something like this seems, it also seems so fitting to this insane hyperreality outlook I get from listening to Death Grips, like OF COURSE there is some middle aged psychologist who totally gets this! It's just part of the incredible sort of logic defying things this group seems to bring with it, and as if I didn't have a weak spot already for wholesome unlikely things like some tidy, professional man just getting everything right about something as abrasive and chaotic like this, it's so much more incredibly precious when it's in regard to something as crucial as this particular song. Seriously, thanks, I'll dive into it now and then report back, I think I have something appropriate for you as well!

This song really exposes the terrible feeling that is having someone care for you but in the wrong way. It's not their fault, but they're wrong in the way they care for you. They don't give you what you need, they don't treat you the way you need to be treated. But still... they care for you, and that alone makes it borderline impossible to end it all. You're not going to end it all, not because of their help, but simply because of them being there. It's a conflicting feeling, and I know it all too well.

I feel that. It feels almost triumphant in how much you've managed to come through. When I was suicidal, and listened to this song on loop, it made me feel like I was considering my whole life as some story, that this song was the credits to the movie of my life. That it was the triumphant end, on last hurrah before riding off into the void. Pretty fucked.

The man I gave my cat's other 2 kittens to back in 2007, somehow won £108 million in the lottery in 2014. He now lives in a castle, with a massive lake and pedigree dog called Millie, and I don't know where my cats are which I was wondering about for the past 7 years. I played this same lottery myself, straight after he won it, cuz of my connection to him, and like doing stuff like this. About 6 wks later I somehow came up with what were the next set of winning jackpot numbers for myself. But in the very end I did not put them down in the shop because there wasn't a pen there, so bought Lucky Dips instead of retrieving a pen. I threw away £36 million and the occurrence of 2 Euromillions winners in a row, not just from the same town as e/o, but who share cats with e/o as well. Not good. Instantly I'm sucked into Hell on Earth, where I still am.. Had a stroke about a year later. Lost my world record video game talent that I had, which was my life. My mum died the week after my stroke, when I was in hospital. A bit later I get wrongly sectioned to mental hospital, put on drugs for schizophrenics, when I'm not that. Clever autistic I am. This evil crackwitch manipulates me in there, and robbed me bigtime when she stayed the night round my house a few wks after getting out. Stole my 3 best autographed photos of vintage pop stars. Including the main pride of the collection; the George Harrison. This impressive autograph collection was my mum's parting gift to me and somehow this has happened to it. I've had quite the misfortune, and I'm still here. Only so I can sue the National Lottery's arses though. They owe me eternal happiness on Earth now, and is my job to get it. This is very tricky. Suicide would probably be easier...

Not to be weird but this song saved my life like 4 years ago when Stefan was talking about how lonely he was and how people nosily notice him in his state of paranoia but never really appear to "see" him as a person and how his most recent purchase was a "old black rope" which he later states a that he is going to learn how to tie in his remorsed "chamber" and anyone can forebodingly come and try it out and "hang whenever they want to." Idk but that shit like made me feel how foolish and loathing I was and how moping around will not really get you anywhere in life. Then he states that his prior fears must "get out his way" idk if im just over interperting the song but this really helped me through alot!
