So ign gave this game a 10/10... Did we play the same game? It's got some flaws, but it's a strong premise and passable execution. I believe with just a few corrective updates, this could be fantastic game.

The 'shotgun that transforms into a tesla coil' is actually a lever action rifle that transforms into a shotgun. It 'sucks' in that clip because you were trying to hipfire at an enemy 150 feet away with a precision rifle. It's my favorite gun in the game because if you ADS and you're even semi-good at aiming, you can basically use it as a sniper rifle.

Found you thru the Red Dead Online video and I have to say, you deserve way more subs since you can consistently make videos with that sort of polish. As far as the game goes, I'm torn. The first Dishonored was truly incredible when I first played it many years ago because of how much freedom you had to complete missions - I love the idea of having the ability to mix and match gadgets and powers in the same way but with the option of running and gunning instead of a focus on pure stealth. Not to mention great level design it seems - 60s retro-future style as opposed to Dishonored steampunk. It has been a few months since this video so hopefully the glaring issues have been ironed out - improved multiplayer, beefed up AI etc. If so then I'll definitely consider picking up this game at some point. A really great review Jack. The costume was a nice touch

Man, you have to try Prey. That's probably Arkane's magnum opus and its pretty underrated considering no one had any idea that the game was an immersive sim and not a first person shooter. Anyway as always this was an AMAZING video

Deathloop fell super short for me, after the skill expression present in Dishonered 1 and 2, this game was very limited in it's way you can approach the solution. 1 solution to beat the loop, and really only one way to get there. The abilities were all kind of lackluster as we'd had them all before. I wish there were "time" based abilities, like stop time, or one where you do something and then rewind the clock and your clone does it instead.

I agree with most of your points, but I wanted to point something out. I've got a few friends who played deathloop, but the first time they got killed by a player julianna, they turned off online mode. Guys, if you're tempted to do that, don't expect a challenging experience. Julianna's replaced by a mostly incompetent bot who isn't that difficult to beat. If you want to get the blood pumping, if you're willing to play something where everything could be at risk if you don't step up to the plate, leave the online mode ON. Then you can complain about it after you beat it.

I just played this game recently and it is freaking amazing. the things that irritated you just didn't bother me. Maybe I like dumb AI I guess, gives me a power trip. But for me, the premise and execution and style are just really great. I feel like it's kinda one of a kind. If there were more games Like this, then its flaws would be more visible. Anyway I just enjoyed it. I didn't play prey or that other game people reference in regards to this game, and maybe that's also why I liked it. ps. yeah the reading is annoying, but I feel like it's meant to be skimmed over. The fact that some code is hidden away in it is a bit like, too punishing. it's like the developer gleefully hid these codes knowing that most people will miss them, as if to wag a finger at them and say "see? you shoulda read all my boring writing." But ok a couple of codes couldn't be found without looking it up online. that is dumb, and it's always dumb, no matter how many games do it. Also, playing as Julianna is simply torturous, it's so laggy and rubber-bandy, due to how the "Colt" player's computer is acting as the server for the two players, and, apparently other games have done this better, whereas this game just makes it horrible when the Colt player's network connection isn't good or maybe even isn't configured the right way. Like, more than 60% of the time, I couldn't even move as Julianna. I would maybe succeed as placing one proxy mine, while feeling like the game world is made of jello and won't let my actions "stick" regarding when the Colt player is AFK... it Does tag them if they don't move for like, a whole minute. maybe that was patched in after this

I actually had the opposite reaction. I thought the game had a really solid first impression and got worse and worse over time until I couldn’t wait to just be done with it. I especially found that god awful ending was the cherry on top of what a disappointment the overall experience ended up being for me. To each their own though.

Completely agree on the enemy AI. It completely makes sense in the context of the game since the "bad guys" aren't seasoned soldiers like in many games. They're basically kids attending a music festival who have been handed guns and told to kill someone if they see them. Glad you came around on the game after your initial skepticism.....BUT....some of your complaints seem strange considering that the game is intentionally designed to address them. Can't help you on the voice acting and dialogue. The 60-70s exploitation vibe is either going to land with you or it won't. I personally loved it. "All the reading" - games have been delivering lore when examining items for as long as I can remember so it seems a little odd to complain about it here, especially since the game doesn't require you to read any of it. You can just exit straight out of it and the game automatically enters any codes you fine so....yeah. Again, I loved the lore and backstory from all the notes, etc but they completely skippable if they aren't for you. "The shotgun isn't accurate" - That's why they give you weapon trinkets specifically to narrow shotgun spread and increase distance and accuracy. Also, just because 30 years of FPS games have made people think that shotguns are accurate and deadly from across a football field doesn't mean it's realistic or that every game should be designed that way. Anyway, glad you loved it as much as I did.

Deathloop was my favorite fresh IP of 2021. I 100%ed each of it's achievements making it my 12th of my 20 Perfect Games on Steam that I'm currently rocking! I only did the multiplayer as Julianna for two achievements to unlock for doing tasks as her. I enjoyed Deathloop's combat, lore, two leads in Cole and Julianna, and soundtrack that suits the theme of the game. I like Deathloop's Groundhog Day meets Bioshock meets Dishonored meets Edge of Tomorrow type concept. I do agree with the enemy AI being weak. It makes Cyberpunk 2077's enemy AI look like Far Cry 3's enemy AI. Despite the flaws with Arkane supposedly having better work Deathloop is still an amazing game in it's own right. A few months after owning it on Steam my younger brother was interested in trying it and I gave it to him as a Christmas present and when I heard him playing it he enjoyed it like I did!

Have you played Prey and especially Prey Mooncrash yet? Mooncrash does the timeloop concept in a more interesting manner than Deathloop does in my opinion.

He'd probably like Prey but I have a feeling he'd still prefer Dishonored because it also feels very good to play. A large part of the appeal of Deathloop to him is the feel and responsivenese. You feel like a "badass" as he says. Prey/Mooncrash are good but ... they're much more clunky and less responsive with fairly mediocre weapon feedback when dealing with enemies. *It's not cool to bring that up but, outside of offering different solutions to problems, Prey's combat is below average.* Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has excellent gameplay in general so being an immersive sim isn't really an excuse for the jank. I think they're fundamentally different games, made by different Arkane studios. *Deathloop leans more into something like a feeling of speed-running, while Mooncrash leans more into forcing improvisation.* Deathloop was more open-ended but at a certain point in development they decided to streamline it because too many players got frustrated trying to figure out what to do. *It's a very light rogue-like (it's set dressing) and closer to a traditional single player game overall.* It's much more like Dishonored. People have to remember that Prey bombed in sales at launch (the IP seems to be dead, leading to the creation of Redfall 🤮), even on PC where you'd hope people would buy a good immersive sim. In fact, the PS4 and PC versions sold roughly the same which is odd. People didn't really support the base game, let alone Mooncrash. It makes sense that developers designed a game that they hoped a good amount of people would actually play. I liked Prey but the way people like SkillUp have used it to bash Deathloop (not saying you're doing that, I agree that he should still try Prey) is a bit annoying because it has its own faults that are handwaved away and should be at least mentioned.

I just bought the game and honestly i think they made the AI more aware, i tried to sneak in the same way I saw in a video that was talking about how it was broken and non existing, and instead of completely oblivious enemy they detected me right away, i just tried little section to confirm it but it seems they are less dumb right now, so i think there's room for improvment

A feature a lot of people don't talk about is loop stress. As more visionaries bite the dust, enemies become more dangerous. They deal more damage, fight smarter, and have heightened senses. A lot of people took the AI at the start of the game as an unchanging absolute, rather than a shifting variable as time progresses. The dumb AI is the frickin point. You start easy, and things grow harder over time. Seems like basic game design to me.

If you wanna play a version of Deathloop without most of the flaws in it and more depth, then i would suggest Prey: Mooncrash. Its made by the same developer and has a interesting setting and story. Also its pretty cheap since it came out in 2018.

I don't think this game deserves GOTYs or 10/10s because, at least for me, the story felt rushed and could have been explored with a bit more depth. Though the gameplay itself is fantastic and the main reason I kept playing until I finished it, just when I finished it the payoff wasn't as satisfying as I feel it could have been and it just sort of ends. I recommend playing it though, especially if it's on sale.

Dishonored is an immersive sim like system shock 2 bioshock deus ex. Deathloop is more like a rogue lite but I would still consider it an immersive sim.
