Complaining about the first descendant trying to make an epic trailer and just wanting to be a fun game, not something deep or poetic and right after that complaining that once human isn't shallow enough and they shouldn't try something deep and poetic is wack

Instead of google, ask chat gpt instead. It’s usually better for more niche things, and it can even (somewhat poorly, but still efficiently) code for you

I don't get it. So you are suprised, that a company which is famous for fishy acts, pay to win, copying from others and poor storytelling, released the next shitty game? You said yourself, that the trailer looked just not good. I don't get gamers. They buy the dumbest stuff, from the shadiest companies and always hope that "this time it will be different." Yeah... sure, Bro.

CTA alone gives 1 gold bar every hour (30 min gameplay 30 min cooldown) and during the cooldown you can do treasure maps or missions

Instead of pay2win, people are paying for player agency in First Descendant. Idk why yet but it really bothers me that a game like that locks simple dyes behind several pay walls

turned the video off 2 minutes in , none of your words have weight to them or validity if you are critical of certain games but are sponsored by games who use the same tactics and tell your audience to play world of tanks ..... lol you sing a different tune when money is involved that is the definition of a sellout

question for you Jack -- why does a random mosh pot of fantasy elements not work for almost human but does work for elden ring? Elden ring also seemingly blends every known fantasy element known to man in the lands between, but unlike almost human, it totally works for elden ring. I have no answer I'm geniunly curious.

Great video as per usual! Though dude, you might have to be more selective on sponsors if you're releasing 30 min critiques on games with micro-transactions.

What’s interesting is, without all the lil fun ‘whodunit’ behind it, triple A studios like EA and Ubisoft are in the exact same boat as these companies: pump n dump generic ass titles, reusing previous games as the base / models n capitalizing off once interestin IPs (which they own, in this case). It’s just the further intensified commodification of the gamin industry in a capitalist hell hole, except solely micro-transaction based.

The design of Once Human should be compared to (1) the Division, and (2) Secret World - and even a little dash of (3) Fallout 4. Once Human feels like a competent Ubisoft game - it technically feels like the Division or Ghost Recon Wildlands. The atmosphere is borrowed from Secret World. Funcom did atmosphere better, but OH did it well in any case and is a much more playable game. And then there’s the scrapping and building which is kinda Fallout 4 lite - but lite is good because FO4’s emphasis on it is divisive. Whether these games are your jam or not, OH borrows remarkably well from some great games. NOW, I appreciate your digging in to Starry and I admit their team obfuscation has me worried - but have you participated in the surveys and patches? I mean, they’re doing it right so far. And then you round out the video telling me why I SHOULD trust the juggernaut that is NetEase. So …? What’s the message here? That you don’t like the game? I think that thesis could have been presented more fairly. (I am worried about getting invested in it. I am familiar with the shady practices of companies like NetEase. I’m just saying this video wasn’t as revealing or pertinent as it might have seemed in its first 2 minutes.)

I can't believe you don't wanna play the next big trending generic live service, open world, third-person action, survival, crafting game with grindy RPG progression?! 1000% agree with your takes here Jack, when I've watched people like Asmon and Thor play Once Human, the gameplay just looks boring to me. Especially when I saw Thor doing the spider boss. Like you said in the video, if your into these games cool, have a blast! But for me personally, I'm over the grindy crafting progression, loaded UIs and generic combat mechanics that I keep seeing in these games. I'm a new game dev and I appreciate videos like these with real ass takes, keep'em coming Jack!

"It's extremely unlikely...any business especially a large company, has some kind of version control like Git..." Like a week before Crowdstrike took the work down lol. Incompetent or on purpose? I agree with Nick- there's controls in place and no way that realistically happens on accident.

Vindictus is by Nexon. It’s fantasy First Descendant. It’s been around 14 years. I find it cool but shallow. It’s still relevant enough that modders borrow its movesets for Skyrim animation mods. You probably know all this. So why isn’t it in the video? Not defending Nexon. They build monetization containers, not games. But … not spending time on Vindictus makes this video seem in bad faith.

Everything coming out of China just feels so... artificial. It's so weird. They have such a rich culture and history themselves but as soon as they make something for Western audiences they create the most shallow, weird AI-feeling shit.

"our world is dying, everything is bad, nothing is good, it's so bleak and so sad and so mystic" says the game, right before I start the game and look directly at my female character barely clothed ass in that skimpy costume. The one that has shorts for a male character.

My take: It's not about the quality of these titles but more about what's trending or going viral on social media. It happened to Helldivers 2 this year, game had unimaginable player count(way more than expected for such title IMHO), before casual folk got bored and moved on. Same with Palworld. It's going to be the same for The First Descendant and Once Human. My guess is that Marvel Rivals will be next - people will play it because it's not Overwatch and because it's depicting one of the most popular brand in the Western world. On top of that, probably their favorite streamers will play it. But once they're bored they will flock to another game.

Glass half empty take here…only thing I can think of for these games popularity, the world is not fun at the moment and everyone is broke and wants to take their minds off of how rough things are so they pick up the free to play game and mindlessly shoot generic enemies with generic characters because no one can afford almost anything at the moment.

The point of games nowadays is the lack of style and the frickin misguided developer about their owns game, I played OH for 40 hours now and I’m kinda pissed off about how the regular weapon skin is more cool rather than the legendary or the cosmetic on item shop, like wtf neon guns???? Cmon
