At-Taubah 9:97 ٱلْأَعْرَابُ أَشَدُّ كُفْرًا وَنِفَاقًا وَأَجْدَرُ أَلَّا يَعْلَمُوا۟ حُدُودَ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ The Bedouins are often more strict in disbelief and hypocrisy, and are most likely to be ignorant of the limits of what Allah has sent down to His Messenger. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. Daniel has been literally alluding to his audience that we should leave the cities for the countryside.

Hi Javad, as a Christian I would like to say that your worldview is much closer to the message of Judaism and Christianity than the standard Islamic traditionist. He makes two simultaneously contradictory arguments (he also seems to confuse you with progressive atheists who promote feminism): On the one hand, that Islam is superior to other religions because of its social stability and hierarchy, but on the other hand that Islam is the same as all other ancient religions in their social stability and hierarchy. I agree that the Quran is called to a higher ethic--for example, not simply patriarchy but like in the Bible, that men are expected to love and cherish their wives--and this is one of the reasons that Judaism and Christianity succeed over pagan religions. (I wonder if this is what you would give as an example of mild patriarchy: men in charge, but loving and respecting women, unlike the Islamic traditionists who do not ask men to restrain themselves at all.) There is a combination of an emphasis on social stability and individual responsibility. The problem with the Islamic traditionist Madhhabs currently is that they actually violate the Quranic ethic, having read the Quran it is clearly echoing Biblical morality and appears to contradict a lot of what the Islamic tradition from the medieval period claims. Islamic traditionists like the Hanbalis of Daniel's movement also do not offer the possibility of individual reform or salvation like Judaism and Christianity do (and, as I presume, a Quran-centric reading of Islam would, given its Judeo-Christian context). Instead they rely on fear of the penal code. What this means is that you can have completely toxic family relationships, spousal abuse, etc. but as long as the minimal social stability and hierarchy is followed, it doesn't matter. This is what appears to attract degenerate men like Andrew Tate to Islam. On the other hand, if one followed a Judeo-Christian and Qur'anic morality, one would first have to repent of one's past actions and change one's lifestyle to be holy and pious. It is not a simple matter of praying some number of times a day and modest dress, that is all useless if it is not followed by a reform of character. It is actually insulting to Islam that Daniel compares it to pagan religions and the debauchery of the Byzantine Empire (most Christians would not portray the Byzantines as moral examples of Christian piety). This shows that the morality of the Islamic traditionists has more in common with those degenerate empires than Judeo-Christian tradition, even though the Qur'an is clearly within the Judeo-Christian context and Muhammad seems to have viewed himself as the leader of a Judeo-Christian movement among Arabs.

Thanks for the comment. (1) Yes, I do believe that the Quran affirms the crucifixion. According to this view, Jesus died in the flesh but his soul lives on with God, as all martyrs’ souls do. Therefore, there will be no second coming of Christ, no anti-Christ, and no mehdi. None of this is in the Quran and is thus a post-Quranic belief. (2) I am of Sunni background, and Islamic modernist.

One of my Sunni friends rejects the notion Jesus was crucified, however, my other Sunni friends does believe Jesus was crucified. Both have great points. My friend who does affirm the crucifixion has mentioned other Sunni's like Etheesham Gulam who debated David wood, and Shiekh Hussein Imram who also maintain the same position. In other words, he has supported his position and showed me that not all Muslims deny the crucifixion. My other friend says all Muslims deny Jesus was put on the cross - but Im starting to believe that is not an accurate claim.

I watched Daniel's wife talking about education. She is completely against women getting university education or working. She and her husband are promoting ignorance, backwardness and extemism. I am glad that Dr Hashami stood up to Daniel because people really think he is a wonderful invincible muslim though i personally see him as a hypocrite and extremism. I am an Egyptian woman that holds a phD and my husband supports me in all my academic achievements. In Egypt we don't look like this guy and his wife despite current religiosity. 1:53:17 I actually think that the Common Muslim's views are way closer situated to Javad's viwes than Danial's. Most common muslim's just want to get on with life and only access "traditionalist Islam"™️ when it comes to ritualistic aspects of the deen because they realize if you were to rely on traditionalist mullahs that are mass produced in madrassas and posess no auxilary training in other sciences, to deal with the complex problems muslims face in their lives you can wait till the sky turns green and the grass blue. Not long ago the scholars were debating whether you can do photographs or use the printing press. The scholars have failed muslim's and are not equipped to answer today's questions. Most muslims (and muslim's in muslim majority nations ) do listen to music, do believe in a general equality between the genders, do not wear hijab, do oppose child marriage and slavery. Danial/Hijab/lipam and the lot represent an extreme end of an extreme end.

@@armand9120 the pew research center's report from the 30th of April 2013 (quite old for a sociological study) shows well the attitudes of Muslim's in the islamic countries towards science, Evolution, modernity and western pop culture. I don't know if you live in an arab country and what your impression is but in my experience what i said above is pretty much what I perceive. You would need to be either chronically online and immersed in the internet dawah culture or be in exclusively religious circles for the opposite to be your impression. What do you think?

I suppose the pew study does support the claim that a modest majority of Muslims around the globe have a favorable opinion of science, evolution, and modernity (it's not obvious to me what the researchers mean by modernity but whatever). The results were pretty mixed for a lot of countries tho. According to the study about 41-51% of Muslims enjoy Western pop culture (median of all the regions). What I find weird is that a bigger amount of Muslims said these Western cultural imports are immoral. Contrary to what you said, I read that Muslims’ attitudes toward women’s rights are mixed. Unfortunately, no questions on adult-child sex/child marriage or slavery. I hope Daniel is an outlier wrt these issues at least. Now I wonder why you put Daniel together with Mohammed Hijab. Do they share similar views or something?

They also are both atharis in creed which emtails amongst other things their strict adherence to the Hadith corpus. Furthermore Hijab had Danial on his podcast due to their shared commonalities in believes. Admittedly they did have a falling out later on and Danial proceeded to hold to even more extremist views.

Whereas the Quran does not seem to claim that the Torah and the Gospel are corrupted as Muslim apologists claim, neither does the Quran claim that these past scriptures are "100% accurate" as is often portrayed by Christian apologists. Rather, the Quran assumes that what is with them is sufficient for salvation, even if it implies that these former scriptures should be read through a quranic lens, much like a Christian would insist that the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) be read through a Christological lens. Additionally, there is inherent ambiguity as to what exactly the Quran is referring to by the terms "Torah" and "Gospel," as well as the Quran's own view towards scripture (al-kitāb). The Quran seems to prioritize the transcendent Scripture (al-Kitāb, also known as the Preserved Tablet) (from which all scriptures come from) over their instantiations in this world (i.e. the specific scriptures that are followed), even if the latter are the access point through which believers can grasp at the transcendent scripture, which is with God (or even perhaps in the divine mind). So, whereas I agree with you that the Muslim apologist is wrong to attack the Bible as corrupted, as this is chopping off the very branch upon which we Muslims sit, at the same time I simply don't agree with Christian apologists either that Muslims will fall into the dilemma they are trying to put us into as far as this alleged paradox is concerned. I dont support neither yours or Daniels views completely but feel that both of you had good arguments that I could agree with. I enjoy your academic perspective of things and your sources for your opinions. I also disliked Daniels name calling, takfir, and bullying tactics. Those were uncalled for especially as a Muslim. However your ending when you try to have everyone cancel him was very childish and akin to SJW (social justice warrior) tactics such as Black Lives Matter, AntiFA and other terrorist organizations that try to silence people by means of Cancel culture. That was very immature and I feel you played into his cards and took the bait. I'd also advise to not heavily rely on the slides. I understand you're an academic and that's how things are done in a classroom, but it is information overload and easily distracting.
