Kroos weakness is team mates because he does not carry the ball like Zidane, who was the best box to box midfielder who carried the ball... Kroos moves the ball through passing, as long as players are moving & positioning, you can't press him. In 1st leg, Chelsea's midfield was destroyed by Kroos cause Casemiro was a passing node, Mendy, Vinicus & Benzema too... 2nd leg, Tuchel made 4-5 player surround Kroos & the flank, yet Kroos didn't lose the ball... issue was Mendy was shit, Vinicius was tired & not as active, Casemiro stayed in the box or near the box cause Militao was gone. Terry always choked in the big games (missed the penalty in the CL final vs Man U), and he didn't even play in the final that they won, which was probably a good thing because he probably would have choked in that too. he never did anything good for England either. Top player on his day, not close to Cannavaro who is probably in the top 10 defenders of all time.

When people debate the best world XI for the past decade, Ramos always gets in for a couple of reasons. People concede that the likes of Chiellini and Giminez are better at defending but Ramos's leadership and goals gives him the edge. But when comparing Ramos to the likes of Terry he doesn't have that advantage any more. Anyone with a brain who saw them both play will tell you without hesitation that Terry was at defending than Ramos. He was also a heart on his sleeve captain and so Ramos has no leadership advantage. Terry is also the highest scoring defender in the history of the Premier League (including fullbacks). When taking into account the fact that Terry doesn't take penalties, Ramos doesn't have a goals advantage either. If you think about it (rather than blindly accepting that Ramos is better because he plays for the great Real Madrid) you'd see that John Terry was individually a better player than Ramos. I'm not gonna do the same for other players but Lampard was better than Kroos.

Roberto Carlos was one of the most complete defenders of all time. He had everything. Attack, defense, technique, tackling, had an eye for the goal every once in a while. Marcelo and Ashley Cole are absolutely not far off, but they’re not as complete as Roberto Carlos was. Marcelo has nearly as many apperances for Real Madrid as Roberto Carlos had, but Carlos has almost twice the amount goals scored for Real Madrid. That should be something to consider as well when you’re talking about offensive attributes as wing backs. Marcelo is not the best defensive player among Carlos or Ashley which is an automatic end of discussion from that perspective, because all defenders primary attribute is to be able do defend. Everything else is complementary, and since Marcelo does not hold the better defensive attributes between Carlos or Cole, he can’t be in the XI.

In general, I just think that Roberto Carlos was more technically gifted, more dangerous offensively and (even though it’s not that relevant for a defender) goal scoring ability. Roberto Carlos was just more complete as a player. But to be honest, I wouldn’t have been mad if Cole was in the XI, it’s just down to personal preference sometimes. I just rate Roberto Carlos slightly higher. However, Marcelo is not in the discussion when it comes to Carlos and Cole.
