Reparation is a debt that is owed for the atrocities of enslavement that should have been paid a long time ago, 40 acres and a mule originally. This atrocity will never be forgotten until this debt is paid.

That is not accurate and a losing argument and this is why. The Africans were not US citizens. They were actually human trafficked between European nations and the US. The US did little to nothing for human trafficking then. The human trafficking and injustice would need to be paid by several nations. However, in 1865, the US government made descendants of Africans taken from Africa US citizens without questioning them or asking for their opinion. But the resulting action should have given those descendants equal rights as all citizens. However, the US government did not equally protect the political and economic rights from 1865 to 1964. Like the Japanese Americans who were violated during WWII with internment, Blacks were also wrongly politically and economically oppressed without relief from the US government, while that same government taxed and drafted Blacks into war, full well knowing their rights were not equally protected. That is the airtight argument the US government cannot get away from. But going back into slavery only muddy's the water with different nations and what nation is responsible for what actions.

If everyone had started out like they had no money then that assessment would be OK. But that is not the case. The Rockefellers, Walton's, Dupont's and Carnegies have created wealth and passed it down. And that should be for anyone that was ambitious and industrious. But that was not the case. Giving some more rights than others hampered the growth of many. A perfect example was the treatment of minority WWII veterans compared to WWI veterans of European descent. They all served in the same military and should get the same pay and benefits. But many minorities were excluded from their GI Bill benefits.That meant those men earned lower income and had less wealth passed on to their families. They had has less education and could not earn as much. That is what is called a double standard. And negative impact of double standards are felt for decades if not forever. Again, if everyone had started out with no wealth, then your assessment would be accurate. But here is the question, what makes some people have more wealth than others in the US? It's not all hard work and education that makes the difference. Double standards played a huge part in it. And it appears the double standards are intentional because even after more than 70 years of its known bias, the US government has still not reimbursed the families of the minority WWII veterans their economic losses. That means people may have died to inadequate healthcare due to income. People have lost investment saving due to inadequate funds. People may have lived in substandard housing due to losts funds. The double standards in the US create a negative domino effect that shatters lives. People may have even went to prison for doing illegal activities because their family has been deprived of resources owed to them. Second, regardless of the GI Bill's usage, that's still in the past. Most WWII veterans are dead. Yes, the Navajo-Hopi Rehabilitation Act of 1950 provided $88,570,000 to benefit the Navajo and Hopi. The Indian Affairs Housing Improvement Program (HIP) provides funding for housing repairs, construction, and down payments for federally recognized tribes. USA Gov also offers financial assistance and social services for Native Americans in need, including food, clothing, shelter, utilities, child care, and adult care. Also, they wouldn't be giving them indirectly had they DIRECTLY given them to the original slaves in the first place! Better question is why didn't they do that back then and why is it now that people are asking them to FINALLY right this wrong we got people wondering about has this happen before that they help those indirectly affected with the answer being, yes, for Native Americans!

Many of the white population in the U.S. live in poverty, work two or more jobs, suffer from hunger. I am sure they should pay taxes for this? Well I do not like the current Supreme Court, but if they rule against reparations they would be correct. Why are the civil right amendments being ignored. For one thing I can hear it now if reparations are granted. Some will say, "this is just (no matter what the amount is) a small payment on a bill long over do". I am for government programs to help the poor. But just of the statement. How would a struggling poor white person feel when they cannot provide the basic needs for their family, but if you are black there will be help. My parents were born AFTER WWII and still had to pay for Japanese Americans to get reparations. You didn't hear a peep out of white Americans or any other non-Japanese Americans. No one complained. I understand where this comes from due to things like generational wealth, but this seems to take it a bit far. Why don't we just focus on helping ANYONE in poverty, not just a specific group? What isn't discussed is the reparations that were given or never owed, over 150 years ago in certain state locations. Some people just didn't get it. For example, those identifying as African American, including myself may have great grand parents who own land, and their parents did also. So, at what point did my family didn't have their own, because the Archives Department in Columbia, SC taught me otherwise. Years before the 1860s, I learned my family's last name has been the same, owned land in the costal regions of SC, and did trade work. This was all in South Carolina at such a time! So, I feel people should do more research when it comes to this subject, because not all United States citizens of African ancestry should be granted reparation solely based on ancestry. Further. what about those indigenous to the Americas before anyone else? Is a reservation a form of reparation? Do Black Americans not have Native American ancestry? Should reservations be made from those who identify as African American/Black also? Who knows. In the meantime, lets get up, and pay these taxes guys lol.

The problem with reparations is that many of these people are just going to use the money to buy superfluous stuff that they don’t need. The bigger issue is educating black people on financial things like the stock market and investing.
