My best wishes to you Debbie, my RA stated when I was in my 40s and its hard for people that don't have it to imagine the pain. Often we mask our pain with a smile and furrowed eyebrows. Your brothers talant is great medican for me and I'm sure for many others too, bless you both for your charitable work.

So very true, none of us truly know what another person may be dealing with. Being kind to one another doesn’t cost dime.

Wow. I could relate so much to Debbi describing how tired she is upon waking each day and how painful every day tasks can be. I suffer from fibromyalgia which is like RA but without swelling. I got it young at age 25. This is my 19th year living with chronic pain. Thank you for sharing your story.

I can relate so well to Debbi's feelings. My son, John has degenerative disc disease and he is in constant pain. It is so hard for even doctors to believe the amount of pain he has, and there is no cure. Thanks for sharing, and best wishes! Bonnie

So much thanks for sharing. As a disabled American veteran, most people don't realize that many permanent disabilities are NOT visible. I suffer constantly from joint pain with issues that have no cure. Since I refuse Oxycontin or similar addictive drugs, there is nothing left except to build up safeguards. I just get through it and the Handicapped tags/placard just make it for easier access. People ask A LOT.

I can only imagine how this woman has suffered for so many years. I have osteoarthritis which started when I was about 52, I am now 70. Surgeries on both shoulders, both knees replaced, a broken femor, lower back issues, feet problems etc. Basically living with pain almost every day.

One of my dearest friends was diagnosed with RA at 16 with a similar story as Debi's. She woke one morning in severe pain and couldn't walk. The previous day she went to work with her dad, got bored and started fooling around with a floor polisher out in the hallway not realizing what a powerful machine it was. The Drs. originally thought she had jiggled her ovaries out of place and she was misdiagnosed at first. I had never seen anyone get soo terribly ill in what seemed like an instant! She's now in her 50's and has to administer pain med shots to herself every day. It can be so horribly debilitating at times.

Debi, your obesity makes it even harder for your body to function.. RA doesnt make people over-weight, the way you eat does. Please fix this, you seem like such a sweet person.
@tekobari9 жыл бұрын
+Ithila Prednisone does, indeed, make people overweight, as do all corticosteroids. I was placed on it for six months (not including tapering up and back down) and went from 88 lbs. to over 160 - almost doubling my entire body weight. Many patients with autoimmune diseases (Crohn's, RA, SLE, sarcoidosis, and many more) are on corticosteroids for life. LIFE. Of course obesity makes movement more difficult, but most obese people move quite normally. With RA, she's in constant pain; she can't move well even if she's skinny. The biggest part of obesity isn't eating - it's moving. Pain is also very poorly treated in this country because doctors have had many analgesic options taken away from them by state licensing boards and the self-proclaimed moral majority who think opiates are "evil," or a sign of weakness, or other such assholic misinformation/prejudice. Aspirin and NSAIDS can cause terrible GI side effects, such as perforating ulcers, permanent tinnitus, even poisoning. A lot of people simply can't take them at all. I was able to take the weight off because my disease doesn't limit movement. Eating is only one part of it, and the smaller part of it, to be frank. We have to get into our minds that we are not our diseases, and learn how to move. Then comes the eating - the easy part to change. Ithila, I suspect you might not have a painful disease, one that fluctuates from moderately painful to agonizing, every single day of your life, and you know this will happen for the rest of your life. Am I right?
