I will admit that, at the time, she was everywhere to the point of annoyance. I was about 18 and I wasn’t into the pop scene at all. She was constantly on MTV and then suddenly, she wasn’t. She was a victim of some backlash as mainstream music took a huge hit. The 1990’s brought in grunge and gangsta rap. Two things that killed what was left of the 80’s. I remember when Debbie showed up to sing with the Circle Jerks at CBGBs in the mid-90s. I was saddened at seeing her try to find relevance again. I realized then and now what we lost. The girl was super-talented and gifted, and that beautiful era of 80’s innocence was gone. So, I look back at this video and see a brighter, more hopeful time. We’ll never have this peaceful, wonderful time again - and that hurts to think about.

Debbie is accepted more now than she has been in 30 years.

You struck a chord in me with this comment. I have been really curious as to why the 90s music scene was so depressing, subdued and seemed to embrace the worst in life compared to the 80s, which seemed so amazing with the brightness and optimism despite the bad.
@MasterJediDude5 ай бұрын
@@PrairieFalcon I know, right? I don’t think we’re alone in this feeling. Something dark came into the world in the 90’s and has stuck around for every decade. Constant war, depression, lack of civility, depleted morals - it’s been very bleak.

Debbie Gibson was a victim of the changing music styles. It is sad 😕 because she was a very talented girl. Of course Debbie was not the only one - almost all pop acts flopped in the early 90s.

I've always been a classic rock fan. The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, the Who, but with that being said, this song is so goddamn good. It's close to perfection. Debbie's vocals, all the stuff going on in the background. I can listen to it a million times and never get tired of it because every time I listen to it I hear something new. This was always my favorite song of hers even though it wasn't one of her biggest hits

@erinwright33513 жыл бұрын
Wow. When I was young all I knew of Debbie Gibson was breathy ballads and punchy pop songs; this song (and dance, and the fact that she wrote it, etc) shows her to most definitely be a prodigy! This song could easily be the theme of a musical theater production--it is complex, emotional, and displays her incredible vocal range. Back then, as an ambitious young performer myself, I wrote her off. Was I ever wrong!! Go Debbie!

@@olivervanburen704Actually I did damage one. I remember being a teenager, my mom called me to dinner. I didn't want to stop playing my video game, so I picked a cassette up and whipped it at the wall. Unfortunately, it was Debbie's Out Of The Blue tape (not the case, I whipped the tape). It still played, though, and I think I still have the tape my parents' house.

So many good songs in the 80s. I still play this and im 52, i think the world has run out of music. Wish i was 19 again. You wont hear todays music in 30yrs time in fact you wont hear it in 2 yrs its just noise with no tune or hook. A true artist and there's a reason they're called that as being artistic wasn't just miming to songs written for you whilst you basically got naked to promote it. I may be stuck in the 80's but it's not a bad one to be stuck in.

The world ain't never going to run out of music because the devil was the leader of the choir in heaven and when he got cast out he went to hell so music going to be around forever LMFAO and plus there's a lot of amazing music out now if you choose to be stuck in a Time capsule that's fine say that but don't this music now just cuz you don't enjoy it

I was Electric Youth, Generation X, etc etc. I had Debbie Gibson posters all over my bedroom walls. I still have several copies of the cassette version of this to this day. Why? This was a major part of my early teens & happens to be, still, in the top 5 of my favorite s of all time. Thank you Mrs. Gibson for your contributions to the music industry & my younger years.. The power you see the energy comin' up, coming on strong The future only belongs to the future itself And the future is electric youth It's true you can't fight it, live by it The next generation, it's electric We've got the most time to make the world go round Oh, can you spare a dime? Place your bet on our sound, come back to town Don't lose sight of potential mastermind Remember when you were young Electric youth Feel the power, you see the energy comin' up, coming on strong The future only belongs in the hands of itself And the future is electric youth It's true you can't fight it, live by it The next generation, it's electric We do what comes naturally You see now, wait for the possibility Don't you see a strong resemblance to yourself? Don't you think what we say is important? Whatever it may be, the fun is gonna start with me I'm bringing it back Electric youth Feel the power, you see the energy comin' up, coming on strong The future only belongs to the future itself And the future is, electric youth It's true you can't fight it, live by it The next generation, it's electrifying Electric youth Feel the power, you see the energy comin' up, coming on strong The future only belongs in the hands of itself And the future is electric youth It's true you can't fight it, live by it The next generation, it's electric It's electric, it's electric Electric youth Feel the power, you see the energy comin' up, coming on strong The future only belongs to the future itself And the future is electric youth It's true you can't fight it, live by it The next generation Inflation, flirtation Relaxation, elation Generation of An electric youth
