You know what though? I also am an '80s kid, and I lived through the whole decade and I wish I could go back too. But, if I went back to the '80s, and lived there forever...a) I would get bored with the repetitiveness at some point, and b) I would NEVER re-live all the great stuff that the '90s (and a little bit beyond them) brought. Yes, the '80s were great, as well as the '50s, and '60s, and '70s, and '90s, each for their own reasons. What was good about them, was the EVOLUTION from one to another. The '80s were fun, but would you really expect them to last forever, in all eternity? They had to end at some point, because everything ends at some point. But not entirely. We have our memories (and You Tube, of course! :p) that will keep them alive for as long as we live. And besides that, to what SPECIFIC year of the '80s would you like to go, and get stuck there and never leave? 1987, the year this song came out? So you would never listen to Madonna's "Like A Prayer" (and I mean the whole album!) which came out in 1989, huh? Or, you would never witness the evolution of the second (possibly) greatest female pop star of all times, Kylie Minogue. And ALL the other great songs that came out in 1988 and 1989. Or, to go even further, all the COUNTLESS great stuff that came out in the early '90s, at least. I know what you mean man, I feel you, I would like to be able to go back too. But maybe once every year for a week, and go to a few parties and all that, and then come back to today. Not STAY there forever. The world didn't end in 1989. p.s.: An 90 year old guy cuts in the conversation: "Screw the '80s, they sucked, I wanna go back to the '50s to see Elvis again and stay there forever! The '50s were the best times, so pure and innocent and we had a great time!" 😆

she was 16 years old when this tune hit the air waves, you are very correct about her abilities. there was no" auto- tune" to correct her voice, and she was backed up by a real band with no drum machines, or computers. this tune has held up to the test of time, I liked it then as I do today( I have the 45 R.P.M. single, I bought it when this tune came out).

This song gets released when she was 16 and still in high school, doesn't let the instant fame go to her head and continues on staying in the same high school where my cousins also attended, saying she worked too hard to not stand with her classmates and graduate. She certainly could've moved anywhere in the country at that point or changed to a private school but she didn't which says a lot about her and what she accomplished while still in her teens and how a couple of years ago, she attended her high school's 30 year class reunion.

I was born in 1967. the 80s and 90s were our decades. Geez I miss the world we had. We were all just Americans. So much optimism in our music and culture. Little did we know back then the storm clouds of true evil were forming over the US and Western Europe destroying everything we knew without a shot being fired. Just horrible. I wish we had those days back so much. God is in control. We have to remember that. Good will prevail.

It’s a cabal that has undermined our society, our security, and our children’s future. We are in dark times, with wars, unbridled cruelty, and the desecration of all that is holy. The common thing that Debbie's songs and '60s songs with female singers (and I don't mean the psychedelic experimental stuff -not that there something wrong with them-, but the typical simple '60s music) had, is that they were just pure innocence. No boobs, no big asses, no pu**y, no money, no drugs, no expensive cars, no golden teeth, nothing. Just girls longing for someone to love and love them back. Pretty old-fashioned these days...

We were blessed to have grown up the 80’s and heard the music from these “teen idols” like Debbie Gibson and Tiffany. They were nothing like today’s young artists that try to be “cool” and are raunchy, immoral, vulgar, half naked, etc. No tattoos, body piercings, plastic surgery, just humble ordinary teen girls who behaved and dressed like the rest of us, and were clean, chaste, upright, and were beautiful and sexy, but wholesome! Plus they were incredibly talented singers who were genuine and sincere with their music. They were great role models for other teens, and this is what we desperately need now days with the direction that society is heading.

I think most, then and still up to now, assumed she was totally manufactured by old guys in suits at major labels and that isn't cool so just ignore her music as if it never existed. The beats on these songs are similar to italo and freestyle songs as well, a sound that was made outside of major label studios but some of those songs became quite popular so in retrospect people think they were major label lab produced. Similar for other popular songs then. Madonna's songs, on her first album at least, were not major label manufactured and handed to her (though she worked with others for beats, they were mostly underground people in NYC). Even some of what was major label produced was done by people who made exceptional and cool music, like Rick James, Quincy Jones, and Prince, the idea people have that those really making popular music then were Gordon Gekko type guys in suits is way off. Unfortunately the 80s is getting a distorted nostalgia problem now due to younger people and apps, entertainment, and clothing stores catering to them putting so much focus on music that was far less popular then and ignoring or minimizing the actually popular songs like this one, in part due to wrongful assumptions and ignorance about the backstories.
