Not true. While she did write the whole thing, she didn't produce it. Most was either done in conjunction with other producers or completely by other producers. This tune, however, was done totally by her and it's the best thing on the record by a long shot.

I was in my late 20's . I'm 71 now. I remember seeing Eddie Money. Not sure if that was the first video but I saw it from the start. I had a vhs tape of tons of videos that I taped from it..over years. I go to watch it one day and my bfs daughter had taped rap over the entire video. I was so mad. MTV sucks now. Once they started putting ads and those stupid reality ( which aren't real life anyway) shows on it just took a crap. I wouldn't watch it if I was paid to.

We were blessed to have grown up the 80’s and heard the music from these “teen idols” like Debbie Gibson and Tiffany. They were nothing like today’s young artists that try to be “cool” and are raunchy, immoral, vulgar, half naked, etc. No tattoos, body piercings, plastic surgery, just humble ordinary teen girls who behaved and dressed like the rest of us, and were clean, chaste, upright, and were beautiful and sexy, but wholesome! Plus they were incredibly talented singers who were genuine and sincere with their music. They were great role models for other teens, and this is what we desperately need now days with the direction that society is heading.

@@dundee6402 My friend, the early to mid 80s did feature lots of classic ballards. In fact, it was during that period the original ballards were being released. And just because people hardly remember most of them doesn't change that fact. Artists like Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, George Benson, Air Supply, Kool and the gang, etc., had most of their songs of that era in the early to mid 80s. Also: Woman in love-Barbra Streisand-80 Never too much-Luther Vandross-81 Never gonna let you go-Sergio Mendes-83 Ain't Nobody- Chaka Khan-83 After All-Al Jarreau-84 Careless Whisper-George Michael/Wham-84 Those are just a few examples out of my memory. I can present a much more extensive list. But it will take time to remember all those early to mid 80s songs that I grew up listening to.

Do you remember the first time you heard Foolish Beat by Debbie Gibson? I do. It was the song that broke my heart and healed it at the same time. The song that made me feel the pain and joy of love like never before. The song that taught me how to be strong and vulnerable, how to forgive and move on, how to love again. Foolish Beat is not just a song, it's a masterpiece. A timeless classic that speaks to the soul of every lover who has ever felt the foolish beat of their heart. Debbie Gibson - "Foolish Beat" In June of 1988, Gibson -- not yet 18 -- made history when this song topped the Hot 100. In leading the charts that week, she became the youngest person to sing, write, and produce a number one hit all by herself. (She still holds the Guinness record among women.) The ballad performance was one of her most heartbreaking, allowing this Debbie Gibson song to strike an emotional reaction to the listener.

I remember when I was 35 years old, I went on a very long drive with my girlfriend. She was a head banger. It was my car so I picked the music. I played Debbie's greatest hits CD twice in a row. On the way back I played it once and then started to play it a second time. My girlfriend hit the eject button. I was driving a Miata and I had the top down. She just threw the disc up in the air. It landed somewhere on I-40. That's okay. I bought another one. Years later, the girl is long gone, and I am still listening to Debbie.

This song put her in the Guinness Book Of World records as the youngest artist to ever write, produce, and perform a #1 song themselves. She was 17. To this day, she is still listed as the youngest female to ever accomplish that feat. Something a lot of singers will never be able to claim they did at any age, much less as a teenager.

Gibson wrote and engineered this entire song herself and I think it's one of the most well made pop songs I've ever seen. The way she brings the saxophone in at 3:23 is just simply brilliant. I really do think she's a genius. Don't underestimate what she did; it's harder than it looks. Especially since while it may seem "old school" now, at the time it was exactly perfect.

We haven't had any pop artist since Debbie. Taylor Swift has written some of her own songs, but nothing like Debbie. Debbie didn't act like a 13 year old girl at a boy band concert, every time she was out in public, like Taylor does! And Taylor's songs are all the same. They sound the same, they are all about the same thing. Some of her lyrics don't even make sense, they just rhyme, that's all that matters in the pop world today. The 80s and 90s pop music will NEVER be ever again. We will never have great songs like these. Is it me, or did we have way more bands and artists to listen to back during the 80s and 90s, than we have today? We had not only pop, but country (real country, not the pop country crap out today), rock, rap, R&B, hip hop, metal and alternative. Now, all I hear is pop, pop country, and rap (if that's what you want to call it). We had so many R&B and hip hip artists/groups back then. Too many to count them all. I cant even name a R&B or a hip hop group today. The days of Jodeci, Boyz II Men, Silk, 112, R. Kelly, etc., are gone. And it makes me so sad. I mean, I hear the same handful of artists on the radio, the same songs. An artist has a new song, the pop radio station in my city plays it every hour, all day. Sometimes twice an hour! Taylor Swift has a new song released, and it shoots to #1. How is that? I'm sorry, but EVERY song she releases isn't that great. Everybody is now conditioned into thinking that every song she releases is just awesome.

I used to love this song, and still enjoy listening to it today, so thanks to the person who uploaded it. I grew up in the 80's and have some fond memories of this period, not just the music, but also the culture. I watched some excerpts from 2 episodes of 'Top of the Pops' from 1982 yesterday, and it showed songs such as: Imagine by John Lennon Golden Brown by The Stranglers Ant Music by Adam and The Ants. ( I strongly urge anyone who hasn't heard of Adam and The Ants to do a KZbin search of this group, you won't regret it). Several other great songs were also in the charts early 82. At the time I didn't appreciate what good music was being produced. But when comparing it to current chart music, it really highlights how poor much of the music being produced today really is.
