Lyrics:
There was a time when
Broken hearts and broken dreams
Were over
There was a place where
All you could do was
Wish on a four-leaf clover
But now is a new time
There is a new place
Where dreams just can't come true
It started the day when I left you
I could never love again the way that I loved you
I could never cry again like I did when I left you
And when we said goodbye
Oh the look in your eyes
Just left me beside myself without your heart
(Without your heart)
I could never love again now that we're apart
When I was sorry
It was too late to turn around
And tell you so
There was no reason
There was no reason
Just a foolish beat of my heart
I could never love again the way that I loved you
I could never cry again like I did when I left you
And when we said goodbye
Oh the look in your eyes
Just left me beside myself without your heart
(Without your heart)
I could never love again now that we're apart
Oh, can't you see I'm not fooling nobody
Don't you see the tears are falling down my face?
Since you went away
Break my heart, you slipped away
Didn't know I was wrong
Never meant to hurt you now you're gone
I could never love again now that we're apart
(Now that we're apart)
I could never love again now that we're apart

This song put her in the Guinness Book Of World records as the youngest artist to ever write, produce, and perform a #1 song themselves. She was 17. To this day, she is still listed as the youngest female to ever accomplish that feat. Something a lot of singers will never be able to claim they did at any age, much less as a teenager.

Do you remember the first time you heard Foolish Beat by Debbie Gibson? I do. It was the song that broke my heart and healed it at the same time. The song that made me feel the pain and joy of love like never before. The song that taught me how to be strong and vulnerable, how to forgive and move on, how to love again. Foolish Beat is not just a song, it's a masterpiece. A timeless classic that speaks to the soul of every lover who has ever felt the foolish beat of their heart. That's why I love Foolish Beat by Debbie Gibson, and why you should too.

We were blessed to have grown up the 80’s and heard the music from these “teen idols” like Debbie Gibson and Tiffany. They were nothing like today’s young artists that try to be “cool” and are raunchy, immoral, vulgar, half naked, etc. No tattoos, body piercings, plastic surgery, just humble ordinary teen girls who behaved and dressed like the rest of us, and were clean, chaste, upright, and were beautiful and sexy, but wholesome! Plus they were incredibly talented singers who were genuine and sincere with their music. They were great role models for other teens, and this is what we desperately need now days with the direction that society is heading.

Why is it that once you start listening to these fire 80's hits, you end up binging on all 80's music for hours on KZbin? Nothing and I mean straight up nothing will ever dominate the music, culture and fads of the 80's! So blessed to have lived and experienced the enlightening 80's. This 54 year old will always be an 80's child!

I remember in the 80s older people saying how crap modern music was and that it all went downhill after the 60s. Now the 80s are the equivalent of the 60s.

I was a sophomore in HS when this came out. My God, everything about the 80's was so amazing. Great music, beautiful girls with amazing style and hair. Well before women took their clothes off to sing. Such simple fun times that in a blink of an eye disappeared!

This is one of the best heartbreak songs ever. It's timeless. It describes perfectly how one feels when a love dies...even now, it still hurts so good, this song. She was the Taylor Swift of the 80's. her voice is one of a kind and her talent, she is in a class of her own. I sang her song only in my dreams acapella for a school concert in high school...senior year 1992.

The generation of composers and music producers that grew up with big band music with the saxophones did us all good by featuring the sax in many 80s music. Bravo. 80's music scene wouldn't be the same without it.

Debbie Gibson - "Foolish Beat" In June of 1988, Gibson -- not yet 18 -- made history when this song topped the Hot 100. In leading the charts that week, she became the youngest person to sing, write, and produce a number one hit all by herself. (She still holds the Guinness record among women.) The ballad performance was one of her most heartbreaking, allowing this Debbie Gibson song to strike an emotional reaction to the listener.
