Debbie Harry - One of the first and the most successful women to front a band of men. She became a pop and cultural icon for one of the most influential bands of the 70's - Blondie. In 1973 - she met Chris Stein. Together they formed a long term relationship and the band 'Blondie.' They struggled for a few years but by 1977 - they had a hit song - 'Heart of Glass' It was their first worldwide hit and they were superstars with followup hits like 'Rapture' and 'Call Me.' Deborah is also an activist - she was one of the first celebrities to speak out about HIV/Aids. She has done several charity shows and worked with everyone from Amnesty International to MAC. She is now releasing her sixth solo album - 'Necessary Evil'.

Loved this interview. Necessary Evil is definitely one of Deborah's best. Wish the interview was longer as I could listen to Deborah talk all day. I find her speaking voice beautifully melodic.

Yes, I find her voice very relaxing. Her voice is so captivating. She actually drives me crazy. No artist before has had this effect on me. Debbie is so sunny. 😍

Exactly. People are always commenting on how she seems bored or completely unfazed during interviews... but that's just her. :) It's a personality trait that's easier understood if you have it yourself, haha.

Best thing about DH is that she is thoughtful but she doesn't seem to take herself seriously and zero ego. I could be way off but you get that impression from her interviews. She is down to earth and you feel you could go to lunch with her and if you didn't say a thing it would still be ok and comfortable; this coupled with a bit of awkwardness is endearing. Maybe it is the punkiness of her or that don't really give a shit attitude.

I've always found it remarkable too, how this fellow Canuck, w/ his little show on CBC somehow gets the biggest guests in the world, again and again, and again. Obviously it's his interview style and the fact he's built a reputation for not only being trustworthy, as in not doing those sabatage interviews that some dirtbag reporters do. But also that he asks much more thoughtful and engaging questions. This would be super appealing for someone like Deborah Harry, who's been in the business so long and gets bored w/ the same old same old, ad nauseum from novice interviewers. As nice as she is, I did see her mildly annoyed in one interview. She was gracious about it, but I had to wonder what the interview might have done to put her off. Then I finished the interview and heard the droll questions he was asking,s ometimes questions he was answering himself, or that she had already addressed. But he was more interested in getting to his little script and asking the next question and wasn't really listening. George is clearly a very good listener too.

Got to this show, heard songs from Koo Koo... cloud 9. Best $20 I'd ever spent. Best $40 was the anniversary tour of Eat to the Beat- seems like her performances improve as the venue is smaller!

..She bitches about how boring it was for her recording back in the analog days but doesnt she realise that those 70's analog tape recordings sounda billion times better than anything shes recorded digitally?..Love vintage Blondie though

Wasn't "bitching" , just commenting on the state of the art . Plus good info about how editing ( usually 2'' tape ) was crucial . The entire process including time lag was vastly different . I do agree that analog process and product (vinyl) sounds much better .
