Debelah Morgan is a vocal beast. The control she has over her instrument is disgusting. Her coloratura passages are sick. She's definitely one of the most agile singers in contemporary music.

FF2 FF2 No, because Debelah uses Super Head Voice, which is naturally a connected range, while Mariah uses Whistle Register, which is a different register that is naturally disconnected, it's impossible to make a Whistle Register connected, but Mariah is the fastest transitioner from any register to Whistle, she almost makes it seem connected. If Debelah used Whistle Register it would have been disconnected too, as if Mariah used Super Head Voice it would have been connected too.

I've seen her do a run from g6 down to chest before. Just how much is disconnected , I don't know, but much of it IS headvoice.

The way you usually hear whistle is through legato the effect she was doing was staccato that’s the separate note thing you were talking about.

Rosannasfriend but did you notice when doing the run from chest to the high note, there was no break, its impossible to transition into whistle without slightest break, even Mariah couldnt do that in her prime. So it has to be super head voice, also it has more weight than a whistle, and isnt as piercing.

Yes whistle and falsetto are totally disconnected registers. So no matter how talented you are there will be a break. As with head voice there is no break because it is a connected register.

GarageStudio Mariah is an exceptional case. Other wise whistles are easier to do, I being a male can hit E7 and I have good Control up-to B6 . But super head voice being a connected register is actually difficult to sing in the first place and then to run like debelah it's crazy. Mariah on the other hand has set the standards too high for the whistle register.

Art Aspire Yeah it's SHV, but whistles aren't always easier, for example, SHV is a billion times easier than Mariah's whistle register, but actually that whistle register should be a distinct register like, there's hv, shv, whistle register and Mariah Carey's whistle register hahah

I think the word you're looking for is "stacatto" - it's a technique done when hitting or singing a note that is not restrained or melissmatic, it's very disconnected as you said, it's stacatto.
