Deborah Kerr was a "true star". She was always so sophisticated and graceful. A trait that a lot of the actresses of today lack. It's sad to think we've lost so many of the movie legends. Let's hope their films continue to be shown to the younger audiences.

I'm currently watching "An Affair to Remember" with Miss Kerr and Cary Grant and so I popped over here to youtube to see what I could find...... I'm floored that she like Cary Grant never actually won an Oscar. The travesty's of the world! I simply can't believe a woman who set the bar for grace and elegance had to wait until the end of her life to be respected correctly. She earned five Academy Award nominations between 1931 and 1949 and didn't win at all. So by 1978, she told Joyce Haber: "I don't mind at all, Greta Garbo never got an Oscar either and she's an living legend." Despite everything else, Joely Fisher told by Molly Haskell Sarris in the fall of 1985 and she says it best: "After earning four Oscar nominations between 1930 and 1940, Greta Garbo finally won an Honorary Award in 1955 for unforgettable screen performances, but Nancy Kelly accepted the award on her behalf." So what happens now? Irene Dunne didn't received an Honorary Oscar in 1986 for many of her contributions, according to the members of AMPAS, such as Kathryn Bigelow. However both Honorary Oscars went to both legendary artists Paul Newman and Alex North instead. We're so sorry that Irene Dunne didn't win an Oscar but she did a lot on her own and never look back. Since April 1986, the Warner Hollywood Studios has re-created the Irene Dunne Stage for the final decades of her career. She died in 1990 at her home in California when she was 91 years old and survived by her daughter, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She's simply the best. RIP, Irene.

I can think of at least 5 films where she was more than deserving. If they gave an award for most versatile and least type cast, she would have won hands down. One of her great performances was in "Edward My Son", she does an extraordinary job of going from a young woman to an elderly woman so naturally which is sometimes done with other actors who don't pull it off very well, however she does so perfectly, whatever films good or bad, she always gave an extraordinary performance and maybe that's why the Academy members took her for granted as she was always very good and never gave a bad performance.

What a queen! Audrey Hepburn was the beloved princess but to me Deborah Kerr was the queen. I've been watching some of her movies recently. She was a very talented and versatile actress who even while playing morally dubious characters managed to always maintain an air of grace and poise. It's a travesty she never won an oscar after being nominated 6x and it's hard to see her so fragile here but she's clearly moved by this award. And through it all, she always maintains that typical sense of elegance & class. A truly magical lady!
