@piustwelfth3 жыл бұрын
@@Dr.SyedSaifAbbasNaqvi I agree with your comment, but I think Bette ascribed too much blame to Crawford for her Oscar loss. Anne Bancroft gave a superlative performance in "The Miracle Worker", and the subject matter was much more profound than "Baby Jane". Hollywood has always liked to reward serious films.

*insert tears streaming down my face here* I may only be 22, but I'm such a fan of Bette. I really wish I had the honor to be alive during the same time as her...let alone meet her...even if it was only for one year of our lives that crossed paths. Thank God we still have her AMAZING work on film. (Side note, I would have LOVED to be in a room with her and just talk for hours! I honestly feel like I would be able to play off of what she says and just appreciate having someone else with the same sense of humor (or whatever you want to call it) to talk for hours with (assuming I would have had the chance) ♡ *wipes away tears*

I remember how as a little kid I used to spend time with my grandparents in the Caribbean. They had only one television station on the island, and they used to show one of the really old Hollywood movies every Sunday afternoon. They called it the Sunday Matinee. As a kid growing up in a culture that didn't focus much on these classic films, I was the odd one out in my family who took a liking to them, and Bette Davis was one of the first actresses I remember from those movies. She was one of a few from that time who are simply unforgettable. Some people are just bigger than life, and she certainly was.

So who would be the greatest? Meryl Streep with her 500 accents? That's the talent of an impressionist not of an actor. If you take away the foreign accents, what left? Not a single one of her American accented performances even compares to her foreign roles.

@@bluedasher74 I was okay with your individual opinion of calling Bette Davis as "the greatest actress ever", but then you proceed to downplay the achievements of another great actress Meryl Streep (when nobody even mentioned her) to show your opinion as the gospel truth... Also, just to answer your question, if you take away her foreign accents, still Meryl's performances have a lot of emotions, finesse and body/face expressions "left" in them...
