I'm loving the content, especially the sit-down with Eric. Its exciting to see the 2nd gen coming along. I have a 99 Dodge 2500 diesel 4x4 quad cab shortbox that I've restored. The Edison kit is something im interested in doing. I'm newly retired and bought a Northern Lite camper. That kit would be great for boondock camping in my rig.

Rich, Eric and Andy. Thanks so much for your honest opinions and feedback, it makes a big difference when someone you trust, starts explaining how and why, you do what you do! Rich, some of your ideas for what you want from Edison are so inspiring. I can see why Chase has got you signed up. You really are the powerhouse you seem to be. with all your different projects in hand and aspiring to do, you must not sleep at night because you are always doing something, and there aren't enough hours in a day, for what you get done, even though you never seem to be overly stressed! Eric, thanks for all you have done for EM. You are the steady hand on the tiller, that has more than enough knowledge to keep Chase under control! I love the way you explain things, not overly complicating things, but still giving a properly informed explanation. and finally Andy. Thanks for being you! You are sometimes a complete nutter, who can see all different aspects of what is needed, yet still make people laugh because of things you do, or sometimes don't say! Three people I'd love to meet, but sadly never will, because the world is such big place, and I'm not capable of national, let alone international travel.

I am sure to be looking in to this once its sorted. Currently 3x Bucket trucks. Each is currently left on site and running a pto for the lift and and powering an inverter to run corded tools/ compressor/chargers. Currently we avg $1 per km. We have 4x 12v battery backup but it chews thru batteries. Diesel / Gas is the more reliable option ATM for us but fuel costs are like $1.5k per truck per month

If you're looking for someone to get a headstart interfacing with modern vehicle CAN and any other comms systems they have buried in there I would be happy to work on this as a side project completely for free. I'm an electrical engineer that has worked extensively designing electronics and programming embedded systems. The last 4 years I've worked in cloud software so I have the full spectrum. If you have some explanation of what you're looking for exactly, and if you could fire me some starting points and maybe a list of modules we're looking to talk to I would definitely jump on that. It's daunting to think of the time it would take to go it alone but if you could feed me the little nuggets to get started I'd be happy to. I don't need money or ownership, I'm just happy to see this thing take off.

Just on your point of batteries in trailers and E-Axels on trailers. This is happening already in Germany and EU. Payload is reduced on those trailers however being used on volume freight where mass is less per cubic metre/ CuFt. up to 4 MT less cargo but still full 80 cubic metre trailers. Also rear-stear axels fitted on some semitrailers in EU to assist in tight country roads and city road for truck delivery. The USA and Canada are so far behind in electric heavy haul. Edison are unique and for the vocational trucking are leading the way and no doubt will be a massive game changer for North America and in some aspects Global applications where Hybrid (recharger) Electric trucking makes super sense. Australia being one region that would seriously benefit from the Hybrid over pure EV. Truck makes like Volvo, Iveco, Mercedes/ MAN and Scania are already years ahead in Electric trucking of 44 MT (96,800 lbs) plenty of recent "Electric Trucker" vids on YT in EU showing the long distance overnight and dealing with supercharging across germany - 600-800 km hauls (375- 500 mile) hauls dealing with driving hour restrictions and 4.5 hrs maximum before 45 minute rest stops and maximum of 10 hrs drive time per day.

I think the US 25 year import rule is to the month of manufacture of the vehicle. So a June 2000 car is still illegal in the US. Also, if a car model was ever certified for sale in the US then the 25 year rule doesn't apply. It's only for cars that were never made for the US market.

Originally, the Edison guys wanted to use the 3.6 CAT for the pickup kit. Is that off the table and are we only using the Cummins 2.8 now? And possibly the 3.8 Cummins if more power is needed? Originally, I thought the CAT would be preferred due to emissions regulations?
@Sah-o5m

I believe the 2 land rovers they purchased are not specifically for conversion. That being said, I believe rich has a plan that will handle any vehicle with a solid rear axle which is exciting.

@@scar9 the "dual" motor pickup truck axles is 1 year and 1 million dollars away :(. The only set of 'single' motor axles are currently in the black dodge frame. What we saw on the pallet is all the stuff minus the axles and batteries. Reservation holders with 450/550 2wd trucks will be the first to get the Dana s110 e axle Edison kits. Exciting times:) carry on Edison, you got this :)

How can you offshore power straight from the generator and shut off the power from the batteries. Reed
@Sah-o5m

Topsy lost an inverter which crippled the truck. So Chace had the guys figure out a way to bypass a busted inverter and have the engine directly drive the wheels. I don't know what voodoo magic is going on to accomplish this.

Many have attempted to modify vehicles in the past, but the transport agencies across Canada have never allowed registration for those since they were not adequately safety tested (aka smashed in multiple scenarios) What is your opinion on this? God speed 🙏

I know how a hybrid bucket truck would work. I have them at my work just the bucket operates off a battery. We have one that the engine charges the battery and one that you have to charge it plug-in hybrid they are really terrible. We can’t even use them most the time because the battery the connection between the battery and the bucket don’t work or we just use the engine driven part and not the battery. Very cool concept bad design not ready for it yet

So now team up with Scania for their braking system (radar guided collision avoidance), or implement your own and you'll have what might be the perfect truck, or damn close to it. And I'm actually refering to the Edison semi trucks but incorperating it in these might be possible as well, but much more complicated.

@Sah-o5m

On the one hand they are identical. Ice engine, batteries, electric axles. Great minds think alike :) On the other hand, the Ram RamCharger is a brand new truck that can be purchased and road legal. Edison retrofit kits are designed repower older/obsolete trucks for 1/2 the price of a new Ram Recharger.
