Be. sure to blow air and some cleaner through the finished lines. Lines can flake some metal off the bends on the inside.

Tip Grab some Oxy welding rods and bend those into the required shapes first to check layout and get all the angles. If you slip some plastic or rubber tube over the wires to bulk them out to the same size as the pipe you can reduce possible headaches and wasted time significantly

@@harambeexpress Too expensive unless you have some scrap laying around. Fencing wire is good too but oxy rods are the best as they are straight about as long as you need and you still get to weld with them when you're done.

I did a trailer with surge brakes a few years ago and bought the bulk brake line in long coils. Changed my life. Way better than doing it in short lengths like you buy at the parts store. Once you get it all bent up and cut, flare the ends with fittings on (don't forget!) and you're done.

The expansion and contraction of the lines while in operation will 'work harden' the lines, leading to great difficulty trying to reshape the original lines. Good choice to go with new lines. Beautiful job you're doing.

I know this may seem like a simple note, but to others please remember this. Line length is always measured thru the centerline of the line. Sounds a bit confusing but it always ends up being the average, no matter how long the line.

I actually powdercoated my metal lines black on top of the valve cover, and white running through the rest on my duramax. I learned the hard way that paint and diesel dont like one another, but powdercoat holds up very good. So even cracking a line or road dirt or anything, they just wipe clean no issue and powdercoat stays on nicely. Just used a household electric oven i bought on marketplace, a harbor freight powdercoat gun, and a plywood box to spray it all in. #alwaysdirtylookingrich

Have done this on stuff for medical air supply, best way I've found is use a copper line of same or similar size and you can to the bulk of it and copy. Hardest are the little kinks. You get to know how tight you can bend with practice and how much you canxadjust by hand as you've been doing. Cracking job as always 👌👌. Not being critical in any way, if it works it works. Just a tip for any future jobs like this.

I feel your pain, trying to bend that heavy wall tube. Even with a proper bender it takes a lot of effort. I couldn't tell if there were some nicks in the lines, or if it was marks for where to bend. Be careful not to nick the lines, that will cause a stress riser which is where the line will crack. I've had hydraulic lines that I made for an abusive circuit, split at a a blemish that I caused while fabricating it. Party on Garth, and keep up the good work.

In Australia, the Navy commissioned a company to replace the high pressure steel injector lines on a large marine ship engine........the contractor just did the job with flexible hydraulic lines...........which in service ruptured, sprayed copious amounts of fuel all over the engine room and killed a bunch of people in the resulting fire ( HMAS Westralia) . So dont cut corners on high pressure fuel injection. Do everything just as the factory intended.

I prefer the Eastwood bender that has degree markings and handles for leverage. Furthermore I put some anti seize in the grooves. Under pressure it still allows the lines slide in the groove instead of stretching the walls. It’s a more effortless and accurate bend

The engineers that designed the stock engines are usually pretty good. And, they’re under a lot of pressure to cut cost as much as possible. So, if a shorter line is cheaper and they could use it they would. Even with the common rails they’re often the same length. I imagine there’s some sort of harmonics from the injectors pulsing the fuel.

This one's really interesting for me, because my RV, based on a Ford A-Series Truck (british Truck from the 70's) has different tube lengths from factory. So i got 6 different lengths. I'm now thinking that it might run nicer with same length tubes. Problem here in Europe: I got a cracked line two years ago and didn't find a single workshop who could make a new one for me. They all asked for the VIN to order one. But the A-Series is old and rare, you couldn't order parts for it. So a shop in Italy (the line cracked due a holiday trip) did a temporary welding on it. Back at home i contacted nearly 40 Workshops, mostly special truck workshops, but not a single one could help. At least i found a shop for tractor parts who could deliver an unbend line like yours, but 2 cm longer than the original. But as all my lines have different lengths i didn't care about that. Now i'm thinking of redoing all the lines to same length. Still thinking about an engine swap to a more efficient engine but german TÜV don't like my idea.
@noscopesallowed8128

You need a programmable mandrel bending machine for lines 1 through 6. Wouldn't that be nice! I didn't realize your in the same province I am. Just subscribed to your channel. You seem very talented, by the videos at least. My interest in the 12 valve Cummins has been fairly recently peaked. My dream is to own a 1st gen with the 12 valve. It's a work in progress.... Got my eyes on one with 533 grand on it. Frame looks strong, and body is actually have decent. Engine and drive train, well I'm sure they'll need to love.... otherwise known as money. Cheers!

Like I said, I have multiple projects because some of the parts have become a 4-6 week lead time in Canada, but you are right, a full custom nut and bolt restoration with engine swaps takes time to do it right.

What if you used, for example, tig filler rods or something that can bend easy to get a good idea on how to bend the fuel lines? Love the videos man!
