Debra Scott went to her GP in December 2017 with bad heart-burn and blood tests confirmed she had type 2 diabetes. She was prescribed medication, but having seen her late mother suffer with the condition, she decided to fight it another way.
As she researched online she found diabetes.co.uk. and information on how to reduce her carbohydrates with the Low Carb Program. Debra is now in type 2 diabetes remission. Debra now writes a blog and gives speeches, sharing all her experiences and reassuring others that a diabetes diagnosis does not have to be grim. She has also written and designed a self-help leaflet aimed at showing how manageable the condition can be.

In four months doing clean keto I went from an A1C of 13.3 to 5.8 reversing my type two diabetes cutting my triglycerides from 234 to 74 my hdl and ldl to perfect levels my free testosterone from 150-300 blood pressure is normal and lastly I lost 62 lbs . Again all in 4 months cutting out sugar and carbs no medication. It is now a lifestyle and I hope this helps anyone who reads this ad also watched this video

I studied Nutrition at Latrobe for 2 years, they told me that carbohydrates were an essential nutrient. What a load of rubbish.

I'm working through some cognitive dissonance now about what we were taught, and what we (in good faith) taught our critical care patients. I followed the "healthy food pyramid" too, having no idea until recently the level of corruption, propaganda and profiteering that was behind the food and pharma industries. I'll never be able to reconcile the deception. Thank God for truth.

A great vid. Beginning low-carb/keto at age 72 has removed 30 kg (65 lb) of body fat and improved my life immeasurably. It took a couple of years but never once did I feel hungry. But perhaps my greatest discovery was that medical doctors receive next to no training in nutrition.

Fantastic news. Yes when I realised that I knew more about nutrition than my GP it made me very sad. And I have much to learn still. I'm almost finished an hour long version of this video that I'm hoping drs and HCPs will use with their patients. We deserve to at the very least be offered low carb advice.

Today's doctors should be ashamed for not catching up on this. I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic 13 years ago and suffered under standard treatments like metformin, attempts with insulin, etc. My neuropathy has progressed above my knees and in my hands. I was told it was a progressive disease. Only 7 or 8 months ago did I discover how to recover on my own with low carb diet and intermittent fasting. I've lost 71 lbs but the struggle continues.

Hi. Michael from Holland here. Started clean keto combined with 18/6 intermittent fasting with my wife 4 weeks ago. Lost 10.5kg whilst feeling great, more energy and no hunger feeling after the 18 hours whatsoever. Read a lot before starting, knowing how your body works and might react is a must. My journey started 1 year ago, and it parallels that of Debra's. Yeah, the itchy skin was the worst, not to mention the tingling sensation in my toes. Happily, they are all gone now. Also, my symptoms reversed in 10 weeks. Yep, information is key. This KZbin channel helped me a lot. I ended up pretty much following Dr. Jason Fung's suggestions, and to my extreme and pleasant surprise, they worked!

Hard to believe isn't it? The advice for type 2 diabetics pre 1980 was in fact low carb healthy fats. Then fats were alienated :-(

Ive been doing pretty much carnivore for 2 weeks. The only carbohydrates I've had is the odd half an onion, mushrooms. And I was taking half a teaspoon of honey in my coffee but I stopped that now. I eat, eggs, butter liver, chicken, cheese, beef steaks, lamb, fish drink 1-2 pints of milk per day. I've lost 11 lbs in 2 weeks and I have energy back, I'm no longer constantly tired.

Thank you for an excellent presentation, Debra. Firstly, congratulations on regaining your health and secondly, I wish you every success in getting your message across. I think it is an absolute disgrace that the NHS is still giving the wrong dietary advice in spite of the excellent work done by Professor Taylor, Dr. Unwin and others. We are constantly being told that we have an obesity crisis here in the UK yet the NHS 'Eat Well' guidelines still promote a high carb diet. So much ill health could be avoided if people were given better advice.

I was introduced to Keto by my daughter in Nov 2021 initially I thought it was a weird fringe diet but after seeing her success in losing weight thought I'd give it a go. Oh thank you so much for this. I started low/no carb and IF in January 22, I am down about 18kg. I started reducing my insulin every night by one unit. I was on 109 (Long acting) - one week ago, I had my LAST dose of it. I also inadvertently stopped taking Januvia at about the same time (I forgot to refill the prescription LOL) - so now, I need to lower and eventually stop Forxiga, Ozempic and Metformin and that will be the end of it!!! My latest Hba1c is 5.2 and daily readings hover around the 4.5 mark. I am delighted with this outcome so far. Wondering, is there a support group like Debra was talking about in Australia?? I hope there is, I would love to join :)

I would love to be part of a support group too. Started LCIF May 2021. Lost 45 lbs but not much change in dress siz yet. So I am guessing 40 of those lbs were from around my organs, reduced my insulin to a fifth of my before dose. My long lasting used to be 58 units now it’s 10 units, my rapid used to be 17 3 times a day now it’s 4 units at lunch which is my breakfast, and about 7-9 before dinner at around 4 PM. So so happy. Wish I would lose some body size now.

@@maryswanson7146 keep doing what you're doing, it will come. You have already seen some very positive changes. The less insulin you require the better (insulin is the fat storage hormone).

225 down to 165 in 6 months. Over 5 years of Keto without cheating. Steak tastes much better than cake all day. Stay healthy folks. Edit: Wanted to add that I began Keto because of a book I read on January 13th, 2017. Eat Bacon, Don’t Jog, No Bullshit. It is my bible.

@@StephBer1 The Cholesterol theory of heart disease has been debunked. You can find many videos on KZbin about this. When I went on low carb my cholesterol went downSlightly, while the so-called “good cholesterol” went up. Unfortunately doctors are much more interested and putting people on dangerous cholesterol reducing drugs then and keeping up with the recent science (and not so recent) that has completely debunked the cholesterol theory.

@@StephBer1 My total cholesterol and LDL went down by cutting the carbs. Trig very low and HDL very high. My doc couldn’t understand how it had happened. I don’t know either but facts are facts.

Congrats on all of this and taking that step to stand in front of the camera to share your wonderful journey. It was this channel that turned my life around (Thank you Dr Mason) Paramedic of 20 years with awful sleep issues and type II (snacking all the time). Now, 5 months in, out of the Type II and lost 3 stone. Took up running again and training for an Ultra marathon at the age of 58. Keto totally saved my life and sanity. :)

Something else to seriously consider is to introduce fasting into your daily life. It certainly helped me lose the excess pounds despite the fact I’m not diabetic. It’s a gradual process. It’s also sad that institutions like the American diabetes association are not interested in helping you cure this disease. It’s all about money. Do your research just like this lady.

Intermittent fasting can also be very beneficial. I often just have a coffee for breakfast as not hungry. I wasn't surprised to learn that the Kellogg's brothers told us breakfast was the most important meal of the day :-(

So glad I found this, I will be watching it tonight. I was diagnosed with T2 in November '21 and the plan of action was to control it through diet - you know,the low-fat,porridge for breakfast,artificial sweeteners are OK diet. I was also told not to buy a glucose monitor "as you don't really need one". I bought one anyway & my fasting bloods were down into the mid 6s & high 5s (from 7.7) and I dropped some weight. I had my blood tested again at the beginning of March, my results yesterday showed downward trends in everything including a 26lb weight loss. At the end of March I came across Ken Berry and the Proper Human Diet, the exact opposite of how I'd normally eat. I decided I'd give it a try for the whole of April (I did Veganuary in Jan!) but I ended up starting early so I'm now two weeks in and feeling good 👍 😁 my fasting blood is in the low 5s/high 4s and stays consistent throughout the day, no massive spikes after a meal. I'm amazed and I'm looking forward to getting tests done again in June. Two days ago I started 16/8 intermittent fasting as well.

My initial problem was that I didn't feel what most people would call ' sick' I just had issues that I associated with age ( I was 64). I had one big issue in that I was getting daily ocular migraines and on researching , I found that I might be lacking magnesium....I bought the supplement and within 3 days the migraines had stopped and have never returned after years of misery that was getting worse. Flushed with success I started researching acid reflux...achy joints....severe weight gain ( 67ibs overweight )and skin tags and discovered Low carb down under. I started june 2021 and have since lost .... I currently weigh in at 168lbs instead of 207ilbs ...acid reflux is gone ..... no achy joints....better sleep and I can now play with my grandson and run upstairs without getting out of breath. I think I was diabetic if not almost there and I was old before my time. I'm 65 now and feel 45 and I am never giving up this way of eating .... ever. Thanks to this channel I am alive and might see my grandson grow up....many thanks and God bless. Gilly wife of Mark

If anyone is here struggling to achieve similar results with the same effort, have a Kraft test over 5hrs to look directly at the insulin response. It's the key for a lot of folks.

This is the perfect video to send to my friend who is looking to reverse her diabetes, thank you. I have followed the low carb way of eating for eighteen months and have also increased my hydration. My chronic migraines have disappeared after 40+ years. I actually started by following a low carb migraine protocol recommended by Angela Stanton. Migraneurs are thought to have insulin resistance which considering my bmi was 22-23, was hard to believe. I have never felt so well and nor has my husband who joined me in an effort to avoid his family history of Altzheimer's. We will always eat low carb now. We don't feel hard done by, have increased energy and we really enjoy our food. It's absolutely life changing :)

I WAS NOT GIVEN ANY OTHER HELP OR ADVICE. 2 YEARS ON & THANKS TO KZbin IM NOW FINDING OUT WHAT THE USELESS NHS DOCTORS SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME FROM THE START. i was very very lucky my nurse practitioner refused to put me on meds first and was like this is what your going to do. your going to stop eating carbs avoid sugar and your going to walk 30 minutes a day and if your number has not lowered after 3 months then we will talk about meds.... the next blood test a1c 3 months later was in the normal range. had he told me what other doctors and nurses do id be fatter and sicker today.......he was even very supportive of fasting when i brought it up.

Debra that was just brilliant. It actually angers me to know that many GP practices are STILL giving out the outdated - and lethal - information about carbs and fat. And I’m sorry but I find dieticians are the worst for being wedded to their out of date training. I was invited to an introductory meeting of newly diagnosed type 2s with the Diabetes `nurse Specialist (who was very accepting of the regime I intended to follow, even if she wasn’t totally up to speed about keto) and a dietician, who almost fainted when I told her what I was going to have for lunch when I got home. It’s quite shameful. Our practice is “accepting” but really not up to speed. I’ll be printing off some of these graphs and lists to hand in next time I’m round at the surgery!

I think it's about working out what works for you. i tend to eat twice a day. Not usually hungry in the morning so just a coffee and cream for me. brunch around 11.30 then dinner around 6. This works around my life too. I work for myself though. others who go out to work may not find this works for them. Is there something I can maybe help with?

My uncle literally died from carbs. He was diabetic for years and then got gangrene. He was addicted to carbs in a real sense. When he would come over for dinner, my mom would buy dessert and I used to ask her why, and she would say... he needs it. And every dinner he would eat all the dessert and the rest of us could take or leave it. At that time we didn't know but my uncle went on like that for years and wouldn't change. There can be no greater example of how the medical industry is not out for your health.

So very sad to hear. Carbs can be very addictive. As can sugar. Your uncle was obviously addicted and his body was struggling so much to deal with all that sugar. It can be hard to get off the addiction train but with help and support it is very possible. Listening to others sharing their stories I found inspired me. I learned so much. Still learning every day too.

I am not diabetic, but I was trying to lose weight. One of my former doctors tried to tell me that I needed to drink a lot of soda before every meal to fill me up, so I didn't want to eat as much. I was shocked that a doctor would tell me something like that. I ended up changing doctors not long after that. I didn't trust a lot of the advice He was trying to give me. He was an older doctor. So I just started drinking more water to fill me up. That was my advice, which was more helpful than what the doctor told me. My mother in law is a bad diabetic. She is on meds and insulin. She always hangs on her doctors every word. She is getting worse. 😢

How long after the food did the peaks normally occur?

It does depend on the food you are eating. The donut experiment was worrying. It shot up more or less as soon as i started eating it and even when it started to come back down it started to go back up again (I look at that like my insulin needed back up soldiers). Other starchy carbs like potatoes and bread not quite as vertical but soon after eating. Pasta and rice took a little longer to kick in and nit such a spike but took ages to come back down. 6 and 7 hours before back to base.

Did you have any problem with the feet like neuropathy or vein problems cause i have feet symptoms. My HBAC was 5.9 i bieleve it will now be much lower at next test but for now I cant reverse feet symptoms... I wish I could play footbal again...

Your sugar free jelly is not strictly sugar free. They contain sugar alcohols like maltitol which are only a fraction less glycemic than table sugar.

That is actually a fallacy. Same as the "if everyone gave up smoking we'd save x" fallacy. Now smoking rates have plummeted have you seen the savings? If people aren't getting ill and dying of smoking or diabetes they still get old and ill and need treatment for something else. No one gets out of this alive. The overwhelming factor in healthcare costs in not smoking or diabetes. It is age. Don't look at this as saving healthcare money, in the long run it won't. Look at the immeasurable improvements in health and quality of life.

@@LiamE69 your right the overwhelming cost in health care is old age, unfortunately smoking and diabetes ages people rapidly. Diabetes being the number one cause of blindness, amputations, heart disease, liver disease, kidney failure. Modern health care is less about fixing, it's about prescribing for profit.

It seems like a large amount of these health issues would be a result of excess weight and if one lost that weight, would also be cured. It'd be interesting to see the correlation between weight lost and success. And to the minority who come into the diet at a healthy weight, what their success to solving health issues is.

did she reverse high blood glucose (a symptom of type 2 diabetes) or did she reverse insulin resistance and carb intolerance (the cause of type 2 diabetes)? just not needing to take insulin doesn't mean you have reversed type 2 diabetes. you have reversed type 2 diabetes when you can eat carbs again.

Dissenting voice? Where is your fibre? By eschewing grains, you‘re putting the 50g/day fibre target out of reach. Congratulations on your (short-term) success. I‘d add back in (lots of) WHOLE grains, and ditch the highly-processed substitutes (almond flour, etc.) Carbs taken exclusively with the packaging (fibre) nature gives them feed our cells AND those of the gut bacteria that are essential for long-term health.

hi Paul, I have never felt better than I have over the past 4 (and a bit) years. I have my bloods done regularly at my GP surgery and request lots of extras. all results are optimal. I'm very happy with my way of eating. I hate counting food. hated counting calories when I did calorie controlled diets. I counted carbs at the beginning of going low carb but after a while I felt I didn't need to. I dont count macros at all and just enjoy lots of variety. meat, fish, veg, fruit (berries work for me) dairy. I just avoid starchy carbs/veg and....grains. grains don't work for me. eating the way you advice i feel would put me back in the diabetic boat and i dont ever want to go there.
