As these catacombs are big, chances are if he went into it on one of the unofficial entrances, he had an accident and died (especially with almost no gear on him). These are caverns, not maintained and not state of the art safe. One broken leg and you may be not able to climb back to the entrance again. Calling for help is not only exhausting but also pretty much unheared. Everyone who was in a closed cupboard knows that sound doesn't travel far in closed and cramped spaces. I think he is just another corpse, decorating the catacombs, soon. If it's true.

No, i've been there multiple times, and you'r wrong, the tunnels are super safe in terms of infrastructure, it's not a mine exploitation at all and absolutely not caverns like you said. Every "street" is on unofficial maps, and visited often by MANY people, talking 1k a month at least! Almost nobody died there lol, that would be very difficult to die there and not be found, almost impossible even considering the amount of ppl visiting. Also debunk files would have found the report if it was the case. 99% of people have a very distorded idea of how it is, i mean, just do some real research and u'll see it's totally not wht u think.U wont ever find how to enter as it's like a community and entrances are kept secret to avoid idiots entering and ruining the fun (like mentally instable crazy ppl in this story)

That day we slept there too, i think we spent 12hours inside or something, i didnt sleep more than 2-3hours tho xD its kind of a strange place to sleep, but very silent xD Also yes!!! the cinema, i've been there but just to visit, i was very lucky to meet the right ppl and they trusted me, there is a bar made of rock in this room too, and that old telephone that works without electricity you can ring the other side/appareil. Catacombs used to be a party zone in Paris! they've been more shut down because people kept going down there and it's illegal. Paris is built on top of the catacombs, people's homes are all on top of them so it's not really impossible to enter the parts not available to the public-you can get in through sewers and manholes too lol. There's lots of things there now, they made bunkers there in world war two which are party spots, there are even swimming pools there!

Kind of a random one, but one I've only seen one other guy talk about as part of a segment, not a whole deep dive--the 'Green Daycare Conspiracy.' A Salt Lake daycare in a slightly poor neighborhood was the subject of a Reddit hysteria where a few people in the area started talking about how weird the place was. It's built weird, was apparently rarely open, & it was next to impossible to get a 'story' from the owners. A lot of the info was quarantined/purged after doxing took place, but there's still threads & articles on a few sites if you look into it. I don't wanna say the name of the daycare, because this place was accused of child trafficking, but I'm in the camp of "This isn't child abuse; it might be a different crime, but pizzagate blew it out of proportions." I mean, I'm willing to accept a different conclusion if there's more evidence, but this is a somewhat unique mystery nobody talks about anymore, despite there being significant media attention about it online at the time. It might be an interesting dive to debunk & showcase how serious a child abuse witch hunt could affect potentially innocent people, while maybe touching on a few proven & similar cases. It's a pretty serious topic, but the hysteria behind it captivated me & reminded me of the oldschool 'Satanic Panic.'

Also, I feel so awful for this missing redditor if he ever existed IRL. I have similar issues he does (but are somewhat under control from being life-ruining) & understand how easy it is to have your hallucinations/delusions validated or built upon by enablers. A big issue that schizophrenic people have is quitting meds the second they feel 'cured' or 'don't need them anymore' or, like this guy said, 'don't work anyway' instead of asking a doctor for a higher dose. It just feels too realistic yet lowkey to be an ARG, even if there might be a couple people uninvolved trying to pile onto the story for attention. I can easily see this guy having been arrested & maybe even put into a hospital if he was found acting insane. I don't know what mental health laws are like in Paris, but maybe if he WAS hospitalized, he began to understand he was being manipulated & quarantined himself from the internet. Maybe he's homeless now. Who knows.

Thanks for this breakdown! I had a couple of thoughts: 1.) The Paris catacombs, as I understand it, has main paths that are established and safe and then it has old side paths that people are not allowed to go into. If someone went off of the main paths, they may not be found. 2.) To me, the simplest option for a solution is that he was involuntarily committed. He broke into the catacombs, breaking the law, and he is clearly delusional (not to mention hallucinating). Likely, police were brought in because he is a danger to self and others and he has been unable to respond because you don’t have internet access in mental hospitals.

I find the whole thing suspect. The catacombs are well-known among this type of community as a creepy place to disappear. But not so much to ordinary people that don’t care about creepy stories. So why did he naturally find himself there? It’s just a cliche place to disappear without a trace. A truly insane and delusional person always tends to run into the police instead. The fact that he spent so much time in the public and apparently frothing at the mouth crazy without some major confrontation, just seems so unlikely. You forgot one other possibility. He was a 50+ hour walk away from the catacombs. What if he found the entrance to a sewer, mine, or even a smaller French town catacomb (If those exist as well) and perished where HE thought the catacombs were? We can't also rule out him slipping past a guard. You mentioned the police finding 100 people a week. That's not a whole lot when you consider these people probably don't go alone. In fact I'm sure it's about groups of 3-5. I work security and you'd be surprised what even a competent observer can miss.

The catacombs of Paris are literally hundreds of not thousands of miles of unmapped, twisting, confusing, pitch black tunnels. When they were dug, there was no plan or organization to it, they literally just picked a direction and went for it. The photos we typically see when reading about the catacombs, where it’s decently lit and the bones are arranged nearly and artfully, is a very -very- small section of them that is open to the public. Catophiles (people who illegally explore the catacombs, similar to urban explorers) won’t try to get deeper into the tunnels from the busiest area of it. If this is real, odds are this guy found enthusiasts to tell him where to go, got in through an unknown or unguarded entrance (there are hundreds, one of which is only a few meters under a busy road, hidden by a manhole cover), and got lost. He probably died of starvation or dehydration after realizing he couldn’t get back out. However, I totally agree that this is way too similar to “As Above, So Below”, so I’m leaning more towards this being a well-written story.

this hit close to home because my mother has schizophrenia and spiralled into a similar condition as the op. she was in a delusion that she had a romantic relationship with the prince of dubai and scammers kept dragging her deeper into her hallucinations, enabling her even further. the social services and i kept trying to get her help, with little to no results. she also had delusions about how every lyric or a tv series episode is aimed at her as a secret message. everything. even social media posts. i ended up getting kicked out of the house because of a meme i sent my friend and she saw it while passing me by, accusing me of being in the conspiracy against her and being a backstabbing bitch. the last time she sent me a message, she definitely didn't seem to get into the better direction, only spiralling deeper and deeper. to her, everything is real and happening. i really hope the op is doing alright.

while i dont believe the authenticity of this, from the language he uses he seems British, which would make sense as Calais is the cheapest place to go to in France from the UK. while I am not saying this is the same guy I can confirm as a Brit that during the time of him saying he leaves for Paris there was a missing person in my city of a Richard P along with a photo and description stating he was mentally unwell and wasnt a danger to anyone, if you find him he will probably be extremely scared and confused ... on an extra note before the pandemic in 2019 there was an accidental death of someone who fell infront of a train, this was MONTHS before the UK got its first case and went into lock down..

You know, this is really well put together, especially when judged against other's versions and interpretations of the story on youtube. The only thing I dont get is the whole "It's a copy of "As Above So Below", the movie only is mainly based in the catacombs, everyone's backstory is pretty justifiable for why they went there, and really the only good comparison is because it has some aspects which someone might think is "hellish", otherwise I only think that people believe it's a fake or inspired by is because "Oh! Paris catacombs!" and other things a person would probably misremember from the story. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Sure they both seem similar, but it'd be wrong to say theyre the same.

Debunk File Not necessarily, Ppl with mental disabilities have episodes frequently in public w/o being published in a news paper. Its a pretty typical symptom to talk like that as an unmedicated schizophrenic. My friend w/ schizophrenia spirals very quickly if he stops taking his meds for a couple days, and guards/cops are usually educated on this. I do agree that this is most likely a fake story (mostly bc of the traveling long distance part) but news/media outlets are heavily controlled by what is best for their pocketbook. Someone wld have had to report the incident to the media or they’d have to go searching public records(I’m not sure of privacy laws in France tho), then have it approved by an editor. Reporting someone having schizophrenic episode wld be pretty insensitive (even for an independent journalist), which is why we don’t usually hear abt them. I don’t see anyone doing that unless he was shouting something political/extremist. It definitely could still be super fake, and just very convincing. I think you completely overlooked the most plausible answer (If, for the sake of argument, we accept your premise this is genuine) then you are right, he was likely found by police - and that common, adventurous, catacomb explorers usually get let go with a stern warning.... But we are not talking about a common adventurous explorer. If the police find a mentally disturbed man babbling about interdimensional beings attaching him and how he is there to "do battle" with them by closing the portal to hell; I guarantee they would have taken him into custody for a paych eval. Unless he snapped back to reality on his own, it likely would have lead to several weeks or months in a mental hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Especially when the time gap between his post of hearing and seeing things to the point of asking about interdimensional beings was completely normal shows that this schizophrenia affected him in episodes. There are hundreds of kilometers of catacombs under Paris, the vast majority of it is blocked off from the stuff you see in tours and websites. It's illegal to go into any of it even when everything isn't locked down, but it's also impossible to patrol all that. In 2017 two teenagers were lost in the catacombs for 3 days before a rescue party found them. While I'm not sure what to make of the story, it's entirely possible for someone to get lost down there, and if they tuck themselves away into some corner somewhere, or crawl into some mostly collapsed gallery, it would be a very, very long time before they were ever found.

Alright, this sounds very fake, but, let's just consider the hypothetical possibility that it IS real. Even if the patrollers usually don't arrest anyone, we're talking about some dude who was all geared up to beat up some monsters or whatever. Since the "monsters" don't actually exist, he would just be aimlessly hitting the air, or something/someone else, and if that happened, then he probably would have got arrested. Also, still considering the possibility of it being real, he could've died before reaching the catacombs, after all, he did say he had very little food and even forgot to bring money. Then again, if any of this had happened ("guy causes a ruckus in the catacombs while claiming to be fighting demons", or "guy found dead near the catacombs"), it'd probably have been covered by at least one news outlet. So yeah, this is probably fake.
