"There is no virtue in having stuff" Great quote, I may borrow that. That idea has been rattling in my brain for years. You finally gave me the words to express it.

Ayn Rand was a fangirl of what she saw as the American spirit. She got out of Soviet Russia and saw America as the antithesis. I don’t like her philosophy, but the background to this is intriguing.

The Hedsman/Tribesman relationship, formalised in Monarchy, still finding expression in Capitalist Philanthropy and reasserting itself in Fascism/Socialism is natural (and thus Divine). Everything good reflects it, Social Democracy negates it.

Hey, I’m a little ignorant of some of the sakes you’ve mentioned. Are you referring to Hobsbawn or Hobsbaum? Did I hear that right? And what would be the first name and some relevant material to look at? Thank you for the streams and content btw. Always insightful.

One thought I had is that wealth = power and prestige. This is very apparent from the outside looking in to America where it seems to me that wealth used as a stand in for nobility (in the hierarchical sense). Trump is a good example of this, where his wealth means he has power, prestige and is a 'A-lister'...he is a aristocrat without the aristo.

Gurdjieff answered many of the deep questions. Knowledge and soul are material things transmitted from person to person, and through family. Human beings are extremely unconscious and live improperly based on excitement and negativity ... and live more like sheep than what they are meant to be. Human beings change history to conceal the much greater beings who lived in the past. Gurdjieff wrote material but he made it very difficult to read because it is the difficulty that causes you to grow ... talking does precisely nothing, because understanding comes from the unity of the conceptual and physical world ... the conceptual just leads to empty words. We live simultaneously in a conceptual, physical and emotional worlds ... these are 3 different types of reality and we are a creature that is simultaneously experiencing all 3. The 3 must be used together to create true understanding, anything else is nonsense. All these things are completely unknown to man, man is extremely ignorant and declining.

I think Friedman had allot of really great ideas that were never implemented because it does not matter who the president is in my opinion and it does not matter whether or not they promote good ideas or not because that's not how the owners run things..
