I agree SO MUCH with this request! I was seated next to a woman who was using the most horrid smelling floral mist every few minutes (she must have gone through the entire bottle) and I must have looked miserable because the flight attendant actually upgraded me to a first class seat 20 minutes into the flight! If you need moisture on your face during a flight, PLEASE use a product that is unscented at least! I have horribly dry skin and I use a thick layer of moisturizer or a sheet mask or a water based mist with no scent. Just remember that this is not a private plane that only you are taking, have mercy on those around you (this also applies to personal space, I had a very tipsy seat neighbor who fell asleep on my shoulder!)

I have tried these types of products but my skin freaks out most of the time because they are full of essential oils/extracts/fragrance. Excellent explanation of “chemical” toxins. Honestly, I think people feel intimidated by chemistry and because it’s not understood at a glance, they want to reject it on principle. I don’t know why it’s so difficult to recognize the marketing behind products? I surmise it’s because we really just want to feel a sense of command over our the small things that we can control, like what skincare we use, when there is so much out of our control.

Do know why these sources that claim certain products are less toxic than others are not to be trusted? I've been wondering this for a while. Scientists do say that some of the chemicals in our products are likely carcinogenic or harmful, but they aren't 100% certain which ones those are (makes sense considering the research that would need to be done to prove that). However, there has been a lot of research done on different chemicals, so is it so bad to avoid certain ones based on the research that we do have (even though it's not perfect)? Like the chemicals that are banned in Europe but not the USA, for example. Why not avoid those?

No way would i use True Botanicals. I looked at the ingredients lists for a couple of products, and they have lots of fragrance in them - orange peel oil, grapefruit peel oil, tangerine peel oil, and lavender oil. My sensitive skin burned just looking at the lists. Also, they're ridiculously expensive! And Ms. Wilde's claim that the True Botanicals oil cured her acne...strains my credulity (a polite way to say I think she's lying.) Maybe it did, or, maybe she changed something else she was doing at the same time (medication, diet, some other topical), and the other thing cured her acne. Or maybe she outgrew it - a few people do although many don't.

I love this video! However, I do have to note one thing I completely disagree with....I agree that not every dermatologist isn't for everyone, just like every esthetician isn't going to be for everyone. But when it gets to a point where you've gone through 23 or 24 derms and drs then I think that really shows that there's a problem. These are professionals that have done years of schooling and gone through rigorous licensing and are supposed to be THE GO TO for skin concerns, so if it's normalized for someone to have to go through two dozen or more derms and drs, suffering for whatever ails them for months if not years, then that is an extremely low bar to be holding them at. This is an issue I've experienced with numerous clients who finally came to see me for their acne after struggling with dermatologists. This isn't to say that derms are bad, infact I agree that they are incredibly knowledgeable and I value their scientific expertise. But I think it's clear there is a bit of a disconnect in the dermatology world, and I don't think it should be normalized or excused. I'm sorry 😔

I think part of the problem was that Cassandra's acne was largely, if not entirely, caused by dairy. I haven't watched all of her videos, but that's my impression. I don't think that's a very common issue, but, I'm not a dermatologist, and I could be wrong. I believe the current theory is that severe cystic acne is hereditary. Makes sense to me; I had an aunt on my mom's side of the family who had it, and I also had persistent cystic acne that didn't respond to the topicals of the time (late 70s to early 80s.) I didn't have numerous pimples all over my face, but I pretty much always had at least one, usually on my chin, until I took Accutane. I believe now that stress was a big factor; my father was an alcoholic, and there was constant, ongoing tension in our household.

Even Cleopatra's cold creams needed to be preserved using ice. Back in the day preservatives were usually coldness by ice/water or dehydration by salt, and ice and salt were both very valuable once upon a time. Modern day perservatives are heavenly boons, people.

I like that you brought up how ‘your’ (in as not me) fragrance can affect me. I don’t deal well with fragrance I’m sensitive to the smell and also it being on my skin (although citrus which is one many can’t handle I’m fine with in small quantities lol) and so like when my co workers ‘refresh’ at work if I walk into the break room after they’ve sprayed whatever it can make me really nauseous. One day I almost had to leave work early because of fragrances making me ill Edit: fun fact fragrance causing someone issues is like in the top five reasons why people leave work early according to an eu study

you were the one who taught me about the fear mongering of chemicals and i really appreciate it, in middle school my skin was so dry it would flake off onto things (yuck!) everyone told me to use clean skincare but it never worked for me, finally i let myself use skincare with ingredients that i trust and my skin actually glows now, i love the purido moisturizer and cosrx cica cleanser, both have done wonders for my skin, i feel so much better about my skin now :,)

I'm not planning on getting pregnant for a few years yet, however I think we overdo it with cautioning use during pregnancy. Because we don't have data on a wide number of products doctors take the "play it safe" approach. However, that sort of obfuscates which products we DO know are dangerous during pregnancy. It also kills the discussion of *why* some things are dangerous. That's how you end up with (on one end) "everything is poison! I'm going all natural" and on the other "pffft, apparently nothing is allowed, no way, I'm gonna just live my life".

The talk about scents reminded me of The Ordinary’s Alpha lipoic acid (which I believe they don’t sell anymore as it was too potent and burnt some people’s skin) that literally smelled like burnt tires lol. The smell was really bad but it was such a good antioxidant and I’m sure it didn’t poison me.

I love your videos, you have taught me so much! But I have to say the True Botanicals Clear Oil actually did clear my skin! Im obsessed with it lol And I suffer with Cystic Acne, and it was pretty bad before I used the oil, now I only get 1 or 2 pimples on my period ( though I know everyones skin is soo different) but i just wanted to say I personally love true botanicals, yeah they are pricey, but I do think they are really good products and they do work. Definitely cheaper products out there, but I have used a lot of true botanicals and have seen great results 👍

I was really tempted to buy the True Botanicals oil when I saw it was on sale for $88 but I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much money on an oil. I ended up just reading the ingredients and made my own dupe. I do feel like it's helped hydrate my skin but I feel like most oils already do that like you said. I just bought organic jojoba, watermelon hemp, squalane, argan, safflower and mixed it all up.

Hi Cassandra, I enjoy and learn so much from your videos, thank you! Question for ya... I recently installed an app on my phone that rates skin care according to the "safety" of their ingredients by scanning the product's bar code. A LOT of my skin care contains the preservative phenoxyethanol, which they say poses a moderate potential risk for adverse health effects. Thoughts? I really don't want to throw away all my products that have this ingredient.

Is the cerave salicylic acid daily cleanser really safe for daily use. I want to buy this product however I want some confirmation. On the bottle it says it exfoliates but doesn’t disrupt the skin barrier. Also is it good for combo skin
@xunjo
@xunjo 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not a professional, but own this cleanser and don't think the salicylic acid formula is good for daily use (despite the name). Whenever I used it a lot it dries my skin out, but no noticeable barrier disruption. If you suffer from acne it's great for alternate day/few times a week cleanser because of the salicylic acid. My skin type is combo, on the dry side, and acne prone if that helps. Hope you get more opinions on this tho since it's only my review!

This drives me insane! I have worked in derm for years. ACNE IS A MEDICAL CONDITION! Sometimes you need rx strength medication to make it better and there's nothing wrong with it. People blame themselves and products for acne. But acne is like any other medical condition. There is a component that could be behavior-based, which the person suffering could have control over, and then there's a medically pathological (genetics etc) component that you would never have control over.
