Was going to say something along those lines. The guy is one of the best for the special effects industry and has a huge understanding of all things engineering. Then he makes a total A&& out of himself with stupid antics and costumes that really are not needed to really present the ideas and materials. I had to fast forward past the bulk of these episodes when he starts acting like am immature dingdong.

Pirate Submarine: The only problem are several; 1) the boat used in POTC is waterlogged, 2) It's an entirely different boat both in style and design, but in material. 3) The boat used in POTC is shorter. Furthermore, by flipping the boat over and filling it with water, they're exaggerating the amount of downward force needed to keep the boat underwater. Buoyancy is F(b)=pVg, where F(b) is the buoyant force in newtons, p is the density of the surrounding fluid, V is the volume of displaced fluid in cubic meters, and g= acceleration of gravity. An upright boat has higher buoyancy than an over turned boat. An 8 ft (length) by 3 foot (width) by 2 foot (depth) dingy like the one in POTC would have 13,781 newtons of buoyancy force or the equivalency of 3,105 pounds under nominal conditions. Being waterlogged, however, increases its weight by 30-40% reducing that value to 1,870 lbs. This assumes mild waterlogging, but let's say it was heavily waterlogged to the point of being abandoned and otherwise useless, it'd have an increased weight to about 900 lbs and only require about 900 lbs of weight to sink while upright. But when we flip it over it's a different story, the net buoyancy is cut in half, to 6,800 newtons, with only 400-600 lbs needed to initially submerge it. Once the boat has dropped below the 2 foot mark, it would become neutrally buoyant, and if it were to drop a few feet lower, it'd begin to sink, just as we see in POTC. The Mythbusters failed here because they failed to get the boat into these conditions. The boat they used is sealed, not of the right material, longer, and in far better condition, altering the buoyancy properties of the boat.

The curators of the Swedish ship Vassa built a replica section of her hull with the proper sized timbers. Then they ordered a 20 lb bronze cannon and took them both to the Bofor's proving range. The splinters off the replica hull would have been devastating to any crew not directly in the line of the cannon ball. Think flying baseball bat sized splinters.

29:00 they really should’ve done this test against wood, but I suppose the silverware and nails wouldn’t have made it through. And they already prove splinters don’t do anything. But I feel like that’s where you’re trying to damage a ship the most is in its wooden parts. You’re not trying to scrape shots just above the top deck.
