🙌THE DEBUNK HAS BEEN DEBUNKED! It happened in less than an hour lmao. CLARIFICATION about Jesus' (Tom Payne) departure! Turns out every media site ran with the quotes that Tom Payne wasn't happy with how his character was adapted and no one talked about his other comments. He didn't actually *explicitly ask* to be written out, but just indicated that he'd be totally happy with leaving (hence the surprise death). He tweeted this on a random Thursday 2 years ago, so I just missed it. Rest of the story remains exactly the same - he never got stuff to do and thought that it was a letdown compared to the books for him. His tweet for reference: x.com/justanactor/status/1507044878105993249 Thanks to @PixieLovesItAll for the clarification!

I'd been under the impression for many years now that sophia was written out because the young actress was so scared of the walkers. It was one of the show only twists that I thought worked, especially to develop carol into her badass character down the line. I think it would have been a waste of an amazing actress to kill her off like she died in the comics.

For Smart Walkers, I would argue that it last until Season 3. They weren't as prominent in Season 2 & 3, but I think after Season 3 they stopped. Examples of Variant Walkers in Season 2 & 3 include Some of the Highway Walkers, The Church Walkers, Some of the High School Walkers, The Walker that bit Hershel, & Zombie Shane and Randall.

I love Milton's part in s3 where he's clutching to this idea that walkers keep memories (probably because he's seen things like you've mentioned) but Andrea and the show just completely destroys that theory. Carl was so far removed from his awesome badass comic book counterpart that I just did not care about him by the end. The last straw for me for his character was when he lost his eye and then they TIME SKIPPED immediately afterwards. It meant absolutely nothing. It changed absolutely nothing. Life just went on as if he still had two eyes. What a waste. I am undecided if this equals the betrayal of Andrea's character or not, but it's close.

i still say that with them changing so much about the original comic they really should have also just had the show span a longer timeframe than 2 years and have the story be long enough for carl to be like 16 or something around his death, like just add 1 full year of the prison being a safe place maybe, and then have the terminus and post terminus bits take like 6 or so months and then his age is much close to what we see, its not like they dont treat him as a young adult/teenager in the show anyway

The truth behind Jesus wanting to leave actually isn't true, he didn't request to be written off. To quote his clarification on this topic from his twitter back when someone stated he requested to be killed off, "I actually didn't. I said I'd be fine if they did." It was a similar thing to Chandler where the showrunners took the easy way out and the media caught hold of the misinterpretation of intention, and it's been difficult to set the record straight. Mostly because Tom *was* outwardly frustrated and voiced his displeasure in how the character was treated over the Saviors War, but it was because he loves Jesus as a character, and has said he'd happily come back if requested for Tales. (I have the full link if you'd like it, but it's quite easy to find on Tom's "justanactor" account.)
@Koroto2 күн бұрын
From what I understood, he said he'd be fine with coming back if he had something to do, but that he wanted to get out of the contract for the main show (or rather that he strongly indicated he wanted to leave). If you have a link with further clarification from him directly or smth, please gimme :)
@PixieLovesItAll2 күн бұрын
@@Koroto Absolutely agree, it's about intention, and I'm sure that it was completely justifiable in the showrunners' minds to end the contract. Whereas it could easily be interpreted that Tom was clearly showing camaraderie with fellow comic readers who also loved Jesus as much as he did and who were also disappointed that he wasn't given anything to do bc all of his comic content was handed off to Daryl or Rick. He's also said that he probably shouldn't've gotten so invested in the comics because it essentially gave him adaptation dysmorphia and was having a hard time reconciling that as the hype around the show was so great, which definitely made me understand his POV better. "Maybe I shouldn't have read the comic books, because then I wouldn't have been as disappointed as I have been at times.” (Walker Stalker NJ Dec. 2018) Here's the status # for the tweet I referenced in the original comment ( 1507044878105993249 ).

I actually talked to Tom Payne in person at a convention I met him at a couple years ago and he told me he asked to be written off because Jesus in the show got no cool fight sequences like in the comic. He trained and did a bunch of stuff and was underutilized. He said he finally got some cool fight scenes like he wanted only in his final episode. He jokingly told me “the show didn’t last long after I left, so jokes on them” lol
@josephparker96062 күн бұрын
I would not say the comic is "consistently good", even the comics got stale shortly after the show started to. Everything after the Whisperers was VERY mid. I'd even go as far as to say the show did a much better job with their final season than the comics did with their final arc. TV Commonwealth was so much more entertaining. Comics did the Saviors way better (show's worst arc) Whisperers were pretty equal, perfect adaptation imo. But the show absolutely wins the Commonwealth storyline. Hornsby's addition alone made it infinitely more interesting.
@Koroto2 күн бұрын
Hard disagree. TV whisperers are a joke compared to the book (goofy timeskip, goofy satellite(???), goofy cave, goofy Hilltop battle with GoT season 8 logic, goofy fake out deaths etc). Talked plenty about that in the retrospectives, so won't rehash all of that. TV Commonwealth had excellent ideas (the Daryl Commonwealth soldier stuff was cool, Mercer was awesome and Lance most of all), but they were just that - ideas. Most of it was a mismanaged hodge-podge of stories, many of which led nowhere and did nothing except add bloat to the already messy messy season. Granted it seemed to have been out of their control due to Covid & the cancellation, but that does not make it any better (and that's not even talking about the reapers which were just a waste of time) The comic's Commonwealth was insanely rushed, but did everything it needed to and had an ending that, while expected by just about everyone, still felt like a good bookend to the story.
@josephparker96062 күн бұрын
The only thing you can give the Comic ending is just the fact it actually ends. Yea, I get it. There's no more story left and 0 spin-offs. But people seem to be valuing that a lot more than it just being an entertaining experience. I think 'Rest in Peace' is undeniably more enjoyable, just solely entertainment wise. As for the comics Commonwealth Arc, it didn't have anything beyond very surface level stuff. Atleast the show added the labor camp with Outpost 22. And all of Lance's maniacal antics behind the scenes. Even Sebastian in the show was a lot more of a fleshed-out character, even without the infamous Rick kill. I really didn't think Kirkman was good at a lot of the stuff that followed The Whisperers. Princess for example was unbearably cringey in comparison to her TV counterpart. Idk what it is, I just can't get into the Commonwealth storyline in the source material. I get the point of it, just being about politics since society has restarted at that point, but I think the show tackled it in a far more interesting way.
@BoogSReviewsКүн бұрын
@@josephparker9606big agree. After the whisperer war, kirkman lost steam and, at that point, reading the comic felt like a chore because of how absolutely boring the commonwealth arc was. It was handled a million times better in the show and was actually pretty riveting from start to finish. Hornsby and Sebastian were so much better in the show. That’s why I love the final season so much. It did that arc better than the comics.
@Logan912Күн бұрын
@@KorotoOne thing I’ll say the show did better with The Whisperers is giving Beta some more backstory, and his death isn’t random and underwhelming like the comics. However, the show still had to ruin it by giving the kill to Daryl because OF COURSE Daryl would get the kill even though it would’ve made more sense giving the kill to Negan who was standing right there.
@CorsonDraxКүн бұрын
@BoogSReviews that's actually what I used to hear from a lot of the comic fans whilst the books were still releasing... I don't know where this idea came from that the Comic is perfect from start-to-finish because that's unbelievably bs.
@beaver6d9Күн бұрын
Hi! Small distinction, but Darabont and AMC settled before it went to trial, so technically it's not correct to say he 'won' the case, but certainly fair to say he came on top. As far as the residuals go, you can see that it says for "future streaming exhibition of TWD and fear" and that it "extinguishes Plaintiffs' rights", so whether you wanna call them residuals or not (streaming doesn't really do residuals, at least not like normal TV), but really the main point is that Darabont and the other Plaintiffs got a fat pay day in exchange for giving up their rights completely.

22:22 you can still tell Daryl and Merle's stories without Daryl taking over the way he did in the main show, personally i think daryl should die just after merle if they were to do his character again.
