Very interesting. I think I’m at step 2. It took me a decade to learn and now I feel like I can take all of that and elevate.

I've been silently watching your videos for a little while now and I'm so enamoured by your storytelling. Even without any of the b-roll, I would still be completely hooked. Super interesting food for thought as usual too. Thank you!

That was some truly immaculate storytelling. Your video encapsulated and then resolved all the thoughts and and worries I have before sleeping about how to be / whether to be truly original. No matter if this video is truly original or you are still stuck in step 1 as you say, you for sure made my day. Amazing to see someone else value philosophizing about originality so much, thank you Jay.

Damn bro what a video, the storytelling is just sensational. God knows after how long have I watched a video at 1x and paid so much attention. I am also at a state where I'm copying/stealing/imitating bits and pieces from different creators and adding my taste to it to make something different/unique. So idk I'm in the right path, but Imma keep trying to get that 2nd step.

Stumbled upon your video by accident and really dug it. Im looking for ways to improve my KZbin channel and I figured even though its a woodworking channel, storytelling would help me improve. Right on!

Another banger video Jay! Reminds me of Thomas Edison's soup test he did with applicants that wanted to work with him. If the applicants put salt and pepper on their soup then he wouldn't hire them because they relied on "assumptions". Instead he wanted to hire people that would challenge the notions of everything. Which I think is similar to what that AI did with Go.

Originally is always better! But it's difficult for it to get noticed. It's challenging for me to value the joy of what I do over the social media attention that I'm striving for.

I don't think being ENTIRELY original in art is even favorable. Sure, no one else has done anything like it, but that's probably for good reason. Take Alpha Go for example. ONE MOVE threw everybody off but the rest of the game before and after that move was probably fairly conventional. It's almost like the fundamentals are more important than being original and you shouldn't equate originality with quality.

I was about to rip into you so hard and yell so many things about how badly you're lying and start arguing from the very beginning of your video why you were already missing everything and wrong. Then you continue the argument until you finally debunked the originality myth by pointing out it's not a myth it actually. Check out tolkien's essay, On Fairy Stories. We are makers, and cannot create without material from the Primary World we live in...But this does nothing to stop our uniqueness and individuality from creating something original from the elemental clay. Good job for defending originality and actually digging into understanding what is not true. We should not be imitating at all I will say. But we do observe a good and original Story to first understand what a Story and Art is even to create something new and Good and Artful.
