I was really amazed when me very young first heard this art work by Debussy in concert, impressionism came to my life and now that music grows anew in this cozy kloster by the hands and soul of finnish conductor Järvi and these fine german musicians. My best regards from Mexico, friends.

Tight, precise, dramatic, Impressionist, and above all: made my heart race. A masterful performance of this pictorial piece by the Frankfurt Sinfonieorcheter under the baton of Maestro Paavo Järvi. Lucky for us, young Debussy defied his parents and did not become a sailor. I get the feeling that when all is said and done, for Debussy the sea is an awe inspiring & frightful experience. Thanks very much!

you need to earn the trust of musicians to become a conductor and as Gergiev said, musicians are the one who promote you. Big work is done in the rehearsals, not on the stage. I see that he is very comfortable, he doesn't do any pointless moves which distracts musicians, his hands look very free and not stiff at all. His father is Neeme Järvi who has, I think, one of the best conducting techniques and studied under Yevgeny Mravinsky. I guess Paavo's not an idiot. So my question is, who are you?

Not true! Debussy wrote La Mer' mainly in Burgundy 'amongst a sea of vines' as he wrote to Messager. He visited the Normandy coast (Viller-sur-Mer) and Jersey during the period of its composition finishing La Mer' on 5th March 1905. This is publishing date on the score (also copyrighted shortly after). Debussy took the printed parts on holiday that summer and arrived in Eastbourne on 23rd July 1905 when he stayed at the Grand Hotel, Eastbourne, Sussex, where he 'corrected' the parts....and wrote the piano Image 'Reflets dans l'eau' - the only composition Debussy finished in Eastbourne. I was born in Ditching near Brighton and when a child was taken to Eastbourne regularly and stayed in the Grand Hotel, which is why I have researched this so thoroughly. If it's of interest to someone from Seaford (my father was Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages for Seaford and Lewes!) Frank Bridge's The Sea WAS written whilst he was staying at The Grand Hotel, Eastbourne....he later had a house built at Friston NR Eastbourne (Friston Fields) which stands to this day, and he and his wife are buried in the churchyard at Friston. Hope this is of interest.

@@rogerwebb7501 You missed the bit where he bought a piano in Terminus Road and had it shipped to his house where it still sits.
@rogerwebb7501
@rogerwebb7501 8 ай бұрын
Yes, you mean the Blüthner 'Aliquot' that was previously thought to be purchased in Jersey. In fact I've seen this piano, it's in the town museum in Brive-la-Gaillarde. It's true that Debussy shipped it back to his house in Paris, but when Emma Bardac died it was left to her son Raoul who removed it to his house in Brive. On his death it was left to his doctor who had admired it, he later sold it to a local furniture dealer, and it was subsequently bought by the town museum where it resides to this day. The piano at the birthplace in St. Germain-en-Laye, which is often said to be one of Debussy's is not in fact. The Aliquot Blüthner was Debussy 'favourite' instrument and had pride of place in his salon - he loved demonstrating the enhanced tone on the top two octaves achieved by the 'drone strings for which this model was famous. It's probable this feature influenced his later piano style including the first work to be composed on the instrument: Reflets dans l'eau'. Try the version played by Zoltan Kocsis. Regards Roger.
