I picked one up in mint condition at a thrift store for $25 recently. I can’t wait to play with her.

It's not the only free arm SlantOMatic. Before it came the 421G, which is simply the free arm version of the 401G, as the 431G is the free arm version of the 411G. The difference is that the later versions can do a chainstitch, have different colors for certain parts and the upper thread tension knob is made from plastic, while it's metal in the 401G/421G.

The Singer 760 was also a free arm slant machine.

Yep, that's a nice machine. Fortunately found one last year for a friend of mine. Seems that your machine is lacking the chain stich plate - another specialty of the 431G.

I stumbled across one of these 4 years ago. I love it! I named her Sargie, and she is a wonderful stitcher. She sits in a cabinet next to my 201, Dolly.

Lovely machine! I happily acquired a black 301 from you several years ago when you were living in Ontario which works very well indeed. Would love to find your featured German machine locally 😊. I have bought a couple of 401’s from ladies who are down-sizing, but these sewing machines need a lot of work on the cam stacks. I have feeling that their owners didn’t read the manuals and kept jamming them somehow, or they never used the cams at all - so now they refuse to work well. I will need to review your other videos! Thanks for posting so much great information ❣️

I very much like the slow speed control though it was a lot better when I replaced the original pedal (carbon disk stack) with a modern one. The fine control on the stitch length is great for doing an applique overedge satin stitch with the zig zag. When you put your cover on and lift it up does it pull up the bobbin cover plate past its retention spring? Also be careful with the stitch plate locator pins, they're known to lose segments

Hi I just picked up a Sears Kenmore 158.140 in a cabinet for $25, The machine is in really good condition and runs smooth and quite. It has the 1.2 amp motor and was wondering if it would be strong enough to sew Velcro to 20 gauge clear marine vinyl? Thanks and what a great channel.
