Wow, I love your review. Quick and to the point. Especially the beginning, identifying and downloading the FREE version. Once the free trial was over I last had mp4 set and couldn't figure out why I was unable to use the program for free. Now I know. The program crashing on the free version is a real shame. I was considering purchasing this program but changed my mind due their poor taste tactics. Why encourage a company to continue these unethical tactics.

I heard from somewhere other issues with their software. For me the biggest one is apparently they increment the version number but they don't actually change the software, and since you have to pay for every version you might be tricked into paying for a newer version that has the same features as the older one.

You can use that software to record any streaming video.

This program is causing me a lot of trouble. I used it once, recorded a couple clips, and now I have 2 unknown files taking a lot of space (each about 1.5 GB) that I cannot delete. Even though I deleted the 2 clips that I have recorded as well as uninstalled the program, the files still won't go away.

You are right, I skipped ... I have googled to find out why my 'free' Non-Commercial Home Use is now telling me I was using Pro and now I can try Lite. More so, what the differences are. Nice honest review ... I need to watch your link to see if there is a good FREE alternative. NB My requirements are fairly simple, good quality screen capture with internal/external (mic) audio and MOUSE HIGHLIGHTING (I may also like the webcam overlay feature).

Debut is nice when you have the full version, but after a couple of weeks you find out the program is not free, it is a trial version. After that like Priest says at the end you are left with a version that has watermarks, restricted formats and other limited features. Not worth checking out, unless you want really to buy the full version.

Regarding relationship with users, Agree, web site looks less than forthright with users and it's never a good sign. "Free home version" allowed me to make approx 4 30 second video recordings (3 mp4s and 1 avi) before shutting off use. Not long enough to debug the two issues I had. The output format is small, surrounded by black matting, and video is dark/low contrast in Windows Media Player.

Half the software on my machine is free versions and what I can't tolerate is nagware and tell me upfront if the program is a trial version or not. Otherwise good review! (if a little too fast) I've been using the free NCH Video Pad editor for years. And for what I need a video editor for it does fine. You're using Winamp?? Can you do a video on Winamp/Nullsoft/Radionomy/????/...

Debut is useless for capturing videotapes from a VCR or camcorder. First, it records 720 x 480 NTSC video with the WRONG pixel aspect ratio, so the resulting videos are stretched and distorted horizontally. Second, it records NTSC video with a variable frame rate instead of the fixed rate of 29.97 fps. So, when you bring the recorded clip into Adobe Premiere Pro (or Premiere Elements) the lip sync is off and it gets worse the longer the clip is. Third, audio is recorded at 44 kHz instead of 48 kHz even when you select 48 kHz from the properties panel in Debut. This software might be fine for screen recording, but for home videos it is completely faulty. By the way, I'm using the PAID version of Debut.

The are crap!!! Why? You can NOT record anything AFTER the trial, because recording is ONLY for pro! They lie between their teeth! I do not trust anything NCR anymore - as of today. Why? Trial version is over. And I do not trust any company that plays games! I don't play games and I was not born yesterday! However OBS has so many issues that I don't like them either. :P

OBS and other recording software, may actually need a settings change in windows, in order for them to work. Graphic settings might need you to select the specific app that is not recording properly, and specifically put it on power saving graphic card. Nvidia cards tend to have this issue. And if you have nvidia and intel graphic cards, there is conflict. :P

watermark,mouse settings and the sofware following the mouse....jesus christ.How about a step by step tutorial on actual recording from a vcr or a camera and how to set up settings for optimal recording which what a lot of people are interested,not program following the mouse or watermark or do i have to be the only one to make such video,once i figure out all the settings?
