We had a heavy snowfall overnight, 15 inches. I shoveled my 83 foot drive, walk and deck. Not bad for a 63 year old woman! These ornaments are so pretty. I am only a rudimentary knitter but want to take a class to learn how to read your patterns and knit with DPs. I have made over 3000 newborn hats for the neonatal unit at a Boston Hospital over the past 11 years and never went beyond the simple pattern I use. Time to try. I watched your crazy quilt video and really loved it as well. Such talent. Thank you for sharing your projects and stories.

I love the church side of the ball. It reminds me of when I worked at a theological seminary in Chicago. The Old Testament professor, originally from Norway, told the story of escaping the Nazi Occupation. He was a seminary student then, and their school was being closed, and several fellow students determined they needed to flee. So they skied cross country and over the mountains. As they made it over the border to Sweden at midnight, they heard the church bells ringing and realized it was Christmas. I may not have all the details right, but the sense of wonder and joy that he had at that night he was able to communicate. Peace.

Coming from Buffalo NY, we didn't always have a white Christmas but it was possible; I used to feel like Carlos that I could never live somewhere without possibility of white Christmas. But I've been happily living and celebrating with very little snow in South Carolina...love that we can hike in mountains, ride bikes and almost never get snowed in. It's a more gentle winter.

I live in the tropics, in Hawaii. I grew up in Pennsylvania (6 months of winter), and don’t miss the cold. The first few years here took some getting used to. I’d go in a store - there were decorations and Christmas music playing. I’d go outside expecting it to be cold and was surprised when it was warm. Now, I really like the warm. Hawaii has a rich music tradition and many holiday songs have been recorded in the Hawaiian language. Songs that talk about snowmen, they say sandman here. People put up trees and decorate them, and then go to the beach to swim. 🤣 it’s fun hearing about your Norwegian traditions. Moose in your garden 😳 here we have wild boars. 🐗 🙏✨🎄🌴

I thought of you two this morning when one of my coworkers gave me a bag of birdseed and cute little cotton bag that says “It is a Scandinavian Tradition to feed the birds on Christmas Day to ensure Good Luck in the year ahead. Spread birdseed on your doorstep Christmas morning for Luck in the New Year.” I absolutely love this gift and will be spreading it on my doorstep because we all need all the luck we can get in 2021 after this crazy year we’ve just been through! A very beautiful design! When I lived in Australia I never really enjoyed Christmas. My family always had a traditional English meal, so we sweltered in 40°C heat over our turkey and brussels sprouts. Now that I'm back in the Northern Hemisphere it all makes much more sense to eat all of that rich food when it's so cold. I walk with the headlamps too - they're a great invention.

I am loving my daily dose of A&C. It’s been 35c for a few days, so too hot to knit with wool. I am currently sewing comfortable cool summer tops and shorts, crocheting with cotton yarn and watching your prior catalogue. I have purchased the advent calendar which I plan to start in June to be ready for Christmas in July. Arne and Helmer are soooo adorable! I had my own candle disaster yesterday, even without Helmer. I blew out some tea lights in my collectible coffeehouses (three!), and accidentally knocked all three of them onto the floor ☹️ !! Only one broke, and I think it can be mended, but I have wax everywhere-on the coffee houses, on the “wood stove” space heater, and all over the carpet. Well, thank God the carpet is old and ready to be replaced! Maybe it is time to make the switch to battery-operated candles?!? Absolutely love today’s ball! Can’t wait to knit it! I had my surgery yesterday. They kept me overnight for observation, but all is well. We won't know how successful it has been for a while, but I'm very happy to be on the other side of it. Today's ball is also gorgeous, I love your white village. I hope you were able to find more of it in the thrift store. I finally have gifts for two of my three grandchildren and I know what to get the third, my daughter just has to check to see what he already has at home. In Shanghai it’s celebrated with Christmas markets all over the place that pop up on weekends; all hotels and malls are decorated with beautiful spruce trees and Christmas decorations;the flower markets are full of green, red and white wreaths, table decorations , pointsettias. Carol singing is being practiced for final recitals soon. So definitely a festive air thesedays( which will be followed by Chinese New Year decorations... everyone’s happy to see this year go!)

What a lovely design today your beautifull winter wonderland christmasball and what a surprise to see MY little porcelain church on your table! I bought it about 30 years ago along with a two small houses in the same style. I guess that's a collection then! You are so right to warn about how hot they get. One Christmas I put the little collection on our mantelpiece and accidently burned de wooden frame off the mirror hanging above it. After that I didn't dare to put waxine candle in them anymore. Now I am inspired and I am going to get them from our basement and will light them with waxine candles on batteries, beter save than .... you know! Thank for yet another sit and knit for a bit!
