In 1971, the Shah of Iran, the self-proclaimed 'king of kings', celebrated 2,500 years of the Persian monarchy by throwing the greatest party in history. Money was no object - a lavish tent city, using 37km of silk, was erected in a specially created oasis. The world's top restaurant at the time, Maxim's, closed its doors for two weeks to cater the event, a five-course banquet served to over sixty of the world's kings, queens and presidents, and washed down with some of the rarest wines known to man.
Over a decadent five-day period, guests were treated to a pageant of thousands of soldiers dressed in ancient Persian costume, a 'son et lumiere' at the foot of Darius the Great's temple, and the opening of the Azadi Tower in Tehran, designed to honour the Shah himself.
Every party leaves a few hangovers. This one left a country reeling, never to recover. It crystallised the opposition, led by the Ayatollah Khomeini. More than any other event, this party marked the break between the king of kings and the people of Iran he reigned over. A Storyville documentary.

I was travelling overland in 1977, and for 1 month, through Iran . I was amazed how warm and friendly the people were, how happy and liberated the country was compared to Afghanistan, which I arrived from. Only old women would wear a vale. I never saw beggars in the street. I remember, buildings going up everywhere and instead of building a road around a mountain, there was a tunnel through a mountain many kilometres long. It was impressive. Now we have one of the most violent and delusional governments, being the major sponsor of terrorism. Congratulations to and long live the women of Iran and their quest for freedom.

This video is British propaganda and is not in favor of pre-Islamic Iran. It is a propaganda video against the Pahlavi dynasty. The 2500-year celebrations were the most effective and brilliant decision by the then government of Iran; it managed to get Iran on the world map and bring hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue to Iran and its people. The festivity's total cost was around 35 million dollars, but the end result of compounding investments and tourism made Iran the wealthiest and most powerful nation in West Asia and the world!

@@0-equals-1-trilliontiger67 People "mocked him" back then because they were brainwashed after extensive false propaganda smear campaigns and a bunch of lies (like this documentary) that has been totally debunked today. "Mocking" is not close to what people feel about the current Islamic degenerates ruling Iran today. Iranians loathe, hate and are disgusted by this Islamic Republic who has held them hostage in their own country since 1979. If people "hate" anything, it's the feeling of being ruled by a bunch of dangerous savages that are not even Iranian (most of them are from Najaf/Iraq and they hate Iranian culture & Iranian history, this is a FACT). No, nobody "mocks" our great king. Quite on the contrary, Iranians today worship the King of Iran. He is absolutely a hero among our many many Kings of old who have protected their country and loved their nation. Maybe you don't know, but since you clueless people talk smack about the Shah, but very early into his reign, communists of the Tudé party of Iran failed an assassination plot and injured the King. He then pardonned the communist assassin and offered him to become mayor of Tehran. And we could go on and on about him. He was a gregarious king. Iranians have now realized what they've lost. That is the situation rn

The Shah of Iran was imperfect. His rule had serious defects. But he also did good things. Iran under the Shah was much better than under the Mulahs (5,000 political prisoners became 45 million). The scale of the Persepolis event was pure follie. Especially in a country with a 50% poverty rate but many leaders and governments are guilty of obscene spending. Iran's future was brighter under a modernist. Now Iran is a cultural, scientific, religious, technological, military and political outcast; a backwater and the greatness of the Persian people and their once magnificent culture and civilisation is buried under religious dogma and hidden behind international isolation.

This documentary is produced and sponsored by the nasty government of the islamic mullas and their paid actors and liars. There is no truth to this documentary because like any other fabricated lies of the nasty regime. Shahanshah was the greatest leader and he had done so much for the country that is beyond saying. That celebration created a huge income for the country through the tourism. After the revolution, the islamic regime and the mullas did nothing but destroying the country and killing innocent people. Making hijab mandatory and stoning women to death on public streets. Islamic regime killed thousands and thousands of young people in the political prisons without any trials. Millions were killed during the war between Iran and Iraq. Mullas really sending young people to the borders and asking them to run in the minefields, telling them that they will go to heaven. Gotta be kidding. When Shah was overthrown, poverty rate in Iran was 40% and literacy rate was around 35%. Today, poverty rate in Iran is around 25% and literacy rate is close to 100%. Were it not for insane Western embargo and sanctions, combined with economic warfare, and US/NATO/Israel funding/arming/training jihadists in neighboring countries like Syria, rate of poverty would be even lower.

There were extensive plans to provide healthcare, clean water, and education to everybody. He couldn't finish what he had started because they didn't let him. If mullas like heaven so much why they did not go to the minefields and why they did not send their own children to the battle. Pahlavi Dynasty build a great modern country with lots of hospitals, universities, mother industries such as car manufacturing and steel of Isfahan, car parts and send young people to Europe and gave them scholarship to build a great future for them and the country and women got the right to vote and work. Pahlavi ended the nasty feudalism system in Iran in 1963 and it is called the White Revolution, The Revolution of The King and The People. Shahanshah was a very educated, humble, kind man who during his short life and reign, had done more than centuries of service for his country and his people. Why this documentary does not reveal all the goodness that Shah brought upon his country and all the crimes and destruction of the islamic regime during the last 43 years of the mullas dictatorship. Mullas stole all the money and killed all the opposition and no one can breathe in Iran. No one has a voice because mullas just kill everyone who dares to say something.

Don't be confused. Did you see how Taliban conquered Afghanistan while an incompetent president is in white house. The same tragedy happened in Iran while Jimmy Carter was in the office. But It was part of a bigger plan. All leftist governments in the west alongside Russia and China were supporting the terrorist regime of Iran during past 43 years to steal our money and resources and suppress the people. Now, we the people are fed up and have no choice to rise up against tyranny because it is the matter of life or death for us. We want to change the constitution to a democratic one. Current constitution has a supreme cleric dictator leader above the law who decides for every aspect of our life.

About the time of Iran and Persia problems, Christ, Our King of Kings, was born near Jerusalem. That was the only area not yet taken /conquered! As far as politics, the Shah wasted time and money, for no good purpose! Thinking himself humble, yet being openly proud! None so blin, as those who will not see!

@@zxera9702 death to the Pisslamic Republic the single biggest stain not only on our rich, storied and grand history but also on humanity as a whole. The biggest gift of the Pisslamic Republic to Iran will prove to be the absolute dismantling and disposing of Pisslam into the excess/waste basket of our history

If mullas like heaven so much why they did not go to the minefields and why they did not send their own children to the battle. Shah was a gentleman, he left when people didn't want him anymore. He left. Now the Ayatollah is killing and shooting girls and womens on the streets... Such a shameful mistake was the 1979 riots. #Mahsaamini

well this is why I don't support regime change , the people in that country overthrow a brutal western backed dictator and people are tired of revolutions , they want reforms , they don't want regime change or they don't want America and the west imposing western values on the country or imposing a new western dictator The shah of Iran who was a military dictator supported by the collective west refused to give powers to religious leaders , that created tensions and the climax was a revolutions , he was making alcohol legal , he refused to allow religious leaders on TV and he was a dictator , the people wanted a democracy and that is what they did , they overthrow him and they held elections , even today Iran has elections every 4 years , I don't support the Iran's government , I think its a fanatical government , but I don't support regime change , regime change is the worst possible outcome , it would be a pity and a tragedy the people that support the Shah of Iran are the 1% , during the shah 1% were very wealthy
