Here's some of a 1979 Mr & Mrs episode with ITV trailers and adverts. It's 30 minutes of uninterrupted LWT, late 1970s style. If you remember all the programmes being trailed here, you're a better person that me. Or just an older one.
Oh and WTF is Campbell's Omelette Mate?

Although this was a Border TV show based in Carlisle they did not have a big enough studio there to hold an audience so the show was actually recorded in the City Road Studios of Tyne Tees TV in Newcastle.

I can't think of any other Border TV shows except when it was their turn to produce 'Highway', which was another depressing Sunday afternoon/evening programme. As a kid this stuff was salt in the wound reminding us the weekend was over and a new week of school was rapidly approaching. If we were lucky we were allowed to watch The Professionals at 9pm but that was unlikely. 'Luckily' we were allowed to watch That's Life! though in all honestly that was peak Sunday evening depression. The thought of that brass band title music still sends shivers down my spine.

@mpwheatley O Absolutely loved That's life, but like you it depressed the heck out of me because it was synonymous with getting ready for bed and school in the morning. Last of the Summer Wine also engenders that latant dread in me due to the time it was shown

The first colour series had to be done at Tyne Tees at the weekends by special arrangement because Border didn't have any colour cameras at that time and it was requirement of the new ITV daytime schedule that all shows must be colour. But it went back to Carlisle and its painfully obvious on any of these Border shows that the audience is tiny and they are doing it all on just 2 cameras.

My maternal grandparents were born in 1900 & 1901 . This is one of the 2 daytime tv shows which my gran was allowed to sit in front of & watch because its non corrupting content couldn’t have given granny ideas that may have threatened the order of his tea being upon the kitchen table at exactly 10 minutes past 5. For 55 years . 😁👍

a 1979 episode of MR & MRS with Derek Batey with LWT ITV continuity and trailers 0540am 29.6.23 indeed... though i cant think of any afternoon tv shows which would have been corrupting to your poor gran. maybe pebble mill was life affirming to such a degree that she'd be off over the fence if exposed to women who had been and made good... as opposed to drag queens who have been and made good? this show is ok by my reckoning and as you say non threatening pleasant televisual fodder... crown court would have aired earlier straight after the news as would Emmerdale farm which used to be shown in the early afternoon - the days of mr wilks, annie and grandfather satin his rocking chair where little happened as opposed to a very hectic and hysterical Emmerdale which has sod all to do with farming these days... i will go away and ponder what the heck could have been deemed "corrupting" about anything aired on tv back then.....

Throughout the years the theme tune to this will come into mind rather regularly and I'll sing it merrily, I was 4 when this was broadcast and remember watching Mr & Mrs when it was on, if I remember correctly I would be off school, which I completely forgot until hearing it now :)

a 1979 episode of MR & MRS with Derek Batey with LWT ITV continuity and trailers 0525am 29.6.23 indeed most afternoon tv skits were seen by kids on school holiday or when off sick from school. i was slightly older than you... i thinki still may be older than you... but, yeah, proper show. pity we dont get any decent quiz shows as opposed to hysterical and enforced laughter type skits. i was watching an old episode of winner takes all and those questions were akin to the type set for university challenge contestants. the grand tradition of brit quiz shows offering up very little in the way of winnings is to the fore here... can't say i have seen who wants to be a millionaire and it probably shows...

Poor old Tropic. In London, after two weeks, it was dropped from the evening schedule and spent the rest of it's life languishing in the 2.30 Monday afternoon slot after Good Afternoon ( a magazine programme mainly for women). I know ITV was upset because it was an expensive production. MInd you, that was miles better than a week of Emmerdale today. Nice to hear the late William Franklyn do the voice over for the first advert after Mr & Mrs, and I think it was Johnny Morris doing the cat food advert. Yes I am old enough to remember it. A typical Sunday, but Crossroads would be back on Monday with Noele Gordon.

28th July. Reading Idi Amin's Wiki has only confused me further as to that Sunday Mirror advert - he was married to three women at once but the longest (and I'd guess this is Malyamu, the first of his six wives, as she fled the country in 1975) is recorded at eight years, not eleven.

Urgh, Sunday afternoon tele in the late seventies. All crap shows like this and programmes about God produced by the minor franchisees. And some of those 1979 adverts were weird! For instance a grinning petrol pump attendant reaches into a lady's car and leeringly squeezes her toilet rolls. I don't remember any of these unlike the great ads from five years later.
