Rosewater seems such a deceptive title. If Rosewater had been about two older women living in a cottage, pottering about in their garden and eventually solving the mystery of the lost glove in the local library, and the handsome stranger who has just moved into the vicarage, I would have been ordering that book straightaway.....

I am really curious what you think about The Discomfort of Evening by Marieke Lucas Rijneveld , it won the International Bookers Prize. I read it in Dutch and absolutely loved it!

You should check out Lives of Girls and Women by Alice Munro if you haven't already, it has some of my favourite short stories in it!

It was my first time reading A Christmas Carol last year... and then got a gorgeous edition for Christmas after I’d read my own. Snap. Lol. I thought That Reminds Me was so brilliant, bleak but brilliant. I’ve still never read Alice Munro, oops.

I loved the premise of The Dispossessed, but it was incredibly slow going for me. I used to loathe romance, but funny enough at my stage in life I’ve actually come to enjoy some to an extent, I would have never thought in a million years.

Yeah so good to see you, I wouldn't be able to explain it but I was so longing for your next video as if I was missing you haha you're my sunday routine now. Anyway, I was curious, romance is not your favorite genre but is there any book of this genre that you particularly liked or is there none ? I'd be interested to know which book(s) if that is the case ! Hope you're doing great, take care xx

I would like to know also, as my feelings regarding romance is spot on with what she described

In one of her later book videos of 2020 Jess said she really enjoyed “love and other thought experiments” by Sophie Ward. I’m not sure if it can be strictly classified as a romance novel but it does deal with the topic of love

1Q84 is my favourite book ever! It is so beautiful and complex, and so much happening but still easy to follow along and keep track of characters. It is very long (over 1,000 pages, I think it's technically 3 books, but I read it in just a week). I really really recommend it!

I hope you check out Tade Thompson's novella The Murders of Molly Southborne, would love to know your thoughts on that!! your description of Rosewater has made it even more intriguing to me... ever since I read Molly Southborne I've been meaning to read more of his work so I'm excited to get to that!

Aaaaaah I was writing for this since months (your review of Rosewater). I picked it up after you mentioned it in an earlier video and read it right away. I really liked the uniqueness of the book and the writing. I also did not feel the urge to keep reading the next books of the series because the main character is such a douche :D Maybe in the next books it will start to make more sense why the character was written that way?

The unnecessarily misogynistic narrator is what kept me from loving Tana French's In the Woods. Maybe listening on audio emphasized how insufferable he was, who knows.

Yesss! I just finished that book and the main character absolutely made me hate the book even though I enjoyed the crime and procedural aspect of the book. Can writers just retire the drunk mysogynist stereotype
