Piranesi was actually inspired by the short story by Jorge Luis Borges 'The House of Asterion'. You should give it a read, it takes about ten minutes and he's one of the greatest Spanish-language writers :))

The language in Piranesi was charming. It is so beautifully written.

I was so happy to see that you talked about Piranesi this month. I happened to pick it up as well this past month and it was also one of my favorites. i feel like you did a good job of explaining without ruining it. I feel like its a great book for people that aren't familiar with fantasy and find a way to get into the genre without being overwhelmed.

I am a native german speaker and read Faust when I was quite young. It is famed as a masterpiece but I don't think its one of Goethes best. I would HIGHLY encourage you to read DON CARLOS by SCHILLER, the other big german classic writer instead. They lived at the same time but his female characters are much more progressive. It also has more plot lines and a central argument for freedom of thought. As a consequence it wasn't allowed to be played under Hitler, while Goethe was never banned to that extend. I would say when reading a german classic choose Schiller :-)

I love Don Carlos! I read it a few years ago and saw a production maybe 2 years ago ☺️

As someone who had to study Faust in school (in the German original) I can say that it is not enjoyable to read when you're reading it for the first time (even without the barrier of translation). I really like & appreciate it now, but that has only come from studying it in-debth & then rereading it with that knowledge. There are SO MANY references to this storyline & its themes in literature, so it is really beneficial for literature students :)

I’m sooooo happy you loved Piranesi! It’s my favourite book of the year so far and honestly I’m not sure what’s going to beat it! I loved it so much. Piranesi the character is just so wholesome and lovely and ugh it’s just so good! 🙌🥺

Request for a (possibly, I hope?) video that requires less prep on your side would be an updated bookshelf tour! I remember you saying that it is super full and that you cannot really see every single book you own, but I LIVE for bookshelf tours and have watched your last ones about 20 times each haha xx

I want so badly to be a Mantel fan but I just can't seem to get in to any of her work. Beyond Black sounds so interesting (like all of Mantel's novels do), but I hate picking up along book that I end up not enjoying.

I am excited to add Piranesi to my book club choice; however, I always add a companion book to read alongside my choice which is published before 2010 so we can compare or contrast what a previous author has done. Since I know so little about this book, would you recommend a book that would add to our literary discussion? Thank you my dear and always love your insightful review of books!

Really, really keen to read The Paper Menagerie. Beyond Black sounds like it’s super gothic if a bit disturbing. Though I kinda like that. Piranesi I wasn’t sure I was fussed about. You’ve changed my mind.
