wonderful lovely talented young ladies!!! Lovelove them all!
How can you not enjoy this. This isn’t just a marching band they are entertainers. The energy level is unmatched. I’m sure most of you have seen them in the Rose Parade. Unlike most bands that March more than they play that 5.5 miles these girls are constantly playing and dancing most of the route. There are a couple videos on KZbin showing them sitting down and playing like a orchestra in a acoustic style auditorium. They are accomplished musicians. Absolutely incredible the talent. Their repertoire of songs they can play is also incredible. The concerts has all kinds of songs that they don’t play when marching. They play Stars and Stripes Firever that’s played at a level that makes our military bands proud. Beatles , Michael Jackson and so many more.

1951....It's their work ethic that's totally unbelievable. Practice 7 days a week, from 7am, to 7pm after their normal class schedule. Their dedication to provide an enjoyable program of music, marching and dance. They are truly one of the best bands ever, regardless of country, nationality and age, realizing that these "kids" are only 15, 16....and 17, perhaps 18 when they graduate after only 3 years in the high school program. They are the BEST.

And a lot of that is committed to memory too... they don't have lyres on their instruments and performed a repertoire of 10-15 songs whilst on parade. They do have sheet music for concert performances, the charity benefit one they performed after the RP was amazing and heart warming. Then there's also the choreography for each song that they have also have to memorise. Truly outstanding and talented performers.

This particular video always gets me. Each and every one of them are so in sync and precise in their movement. Additionally, it truly amazes me how those girls/boys seem to move so effortlessly while playing the base drums and tubas which I can only imagine are not that light to carry and move so gracefully. The drum line plays superbly, and as always the incomparable Tippi (Chippi), is always smiling that big smile of hers and playing her heart out to the point where she gives the appearance of wanting to demolish the xylophones. She makes me smile. Love it. Ella me hace sonreír. Me encanta.

One of the Sousaphone players facing our direction was a "roomie". We had another Sousaphone player but she faced the other side of the street. Our 3rd "roomie" was an Alto sax player, but 2 rows further back. Again we were exceedingly blessed to have been a part of this. Thanks for viewing and your comment.

Why did the Americans not think of this first? US is noted for original music not Japan. It was a slapped on their faces that Japan did this first. No US bands can compete with this girls. Thank you Kyoto SHS Marching Band.

As I have written in previous Tachibana videos when I can, and allowed, I have watched several of these students grow up before my eyes since 2014. At an advanced age returned to college and earned my bachelor's and wrote a paper about this wonderful band. Though I had limited resources to draw from, did a fairly good job writing it. Though it received mixed reviews, my instructor, an assistant college band director pressed me for more information about the band. I would like mention that this performance at Disneyland, the Rose Bowl Parade, and the one featured at the Performing Arts Center at JFK High was led by both my favorite and second favorite DMs, DM "Ron" and DM "Cony", not to mention some of my favorite band members. I was going to be there in person and watch and record them and hope to meet some of them. However, to my surprise and shock, I awoke two to three days after this parade was history in the ICU of a local hospital from a case of Anaphylaxis Shock. Almost missing my spring semester. Maybe someday somehow, I can see them live.

Alvin, I certainly hope you are doing better and on the road to recovery. Thank you once again for viewing the videos, I'm glad you were able to create an article regarding the students and their school. Even happier that you were able to share it with your instructor. Stay on the road to your good health.

@@paulmiller5037 I shall sir. I am a true fan of this band. I mailed a letter to the school's band director, because it has gotten extremely difficult for me to continue playing my saxophones, and I need prior approval to send them. Though wills are good, I would much rather see them put to god use now before that day comes. I would like someone at this school to enjoy them as much as I have.

@@alvinbusby688 ....of course. I like Tequila too, especially when it come in the bottle. That song can be seen in a very... very early concert when the wind club was truly a girls only group. I do not have and system of grouping or organizing the videos, but if you can find a group of "old favoites" put together by "orange fairy" I believe, he has a great remembrance video going waaaay back in time. Its a short but complete retroview of older concerts....2009 perhaps? not sure, if...i see it I'll forward a copy to you. Thank you David.... It's an honor to have had so many people watch this. Had so many people ask me if I was going to tape it, only reason I did was we had threeTachibana alumni stay with us while they were here.
Thank you for your kind words. Glad I was in the right spot at the right time to share this with you. We opened our home to 3 of the students so we could share our lives together. Never have I met three more charming ladies. They were alumni from the class 112, and the wind club invited them to travel over to the U.S., It was a special time for all of us. Arigatou.....

Din O Rooter, I don't view this often anymore, but I always look for comments I can reply too. Not sure which two percussionist you're referring to, as about half of them were returning or invited alumni to make the trip and march with the band. Or as they are called in Japan, a Brass Band, or Wind Club, as there are no band classes at K.T. (Kyoto Tachibana) this is strickly a "club" activity. Thank you for viewing and your kind words.
