I remember staying up into the wee hours of the morning listening to this game, absolutely stunned that Hawaii was firmly in control for so long. It was a real nail-biter. Huskers finally got it cranking late. GO BIG RED.

Wow, we never got this broadcast in Nebraska. Must have only aired in Hawaii. Thanks so much for sharing this very rare recording. I remember that Mike Rozier was knocked out of the game and didn't play the second half against Oklahoma after gaining 96 yards in the first half. He was nursing a bad ankle here and a lingering Hip Injury. Had a good first half and again was knocked out again. Nebraska turned to off injured Senior Roger Craig and he had his best game of the year. Something like 126 yards or so. Mostly in the second half with Mike sidelined.

Wow, Mike just barely tripped up on that 3rd carry, or he was long gone. Really exploded on that run after being bottled up on the first two carries. Man, I forgot that Turner Gill was injured, and Bruce Mathison filled in a quarterback here. Mathison was a very good passer and not a bad runner either. Hawaii really came out fired up. Man, this was a super hard-hitting game and Hawaii had allot of talent. Quarles was an outstanding Quarterback. Pretty sure Irving Fryar returned a punt for a touchdown here pretty soon. I'm at 139:42 watching this right now.

Awesome determined tough run, by Roger Craig for the go ahead score. Two outstanding runs by Jeff Smith with Mike Rozier out with an injured knee and Craig who battled injuries all season too not in the game. Smith was tremendously explosive. Great return man as well. Jeff nearly broke it all the way two out of three carries there with a four-minutes to go. Incredible, Nebraska with over 450 yards rushing, but under 4 touchdowns. I could have sworn that Irving Fryar returned a punt for touchdown in this game and Craig had a couple of scores. I guess not?

Fryar had a punt return for a touchdown late in the fourth. Look up the action @2:29:33.

Probably the worst officiated game in the 1980's....except maybe the Penn State game.

I love this broadcast because the two idiots are feeling their oats for 3 quarters and crying in the 4th.

Bought and paid for Hawaiian refs couldn't save them (this is what my dad always told me about this game, said there were some suspicious holding calls on the NU OL that barely ever got called, so far, I'm not seeing them 😄). Edit: found one, 1 hour mark. Horses*** call 😬🤫

I thought these announcers were entertaining. They reminded me of Texas high school announcers. Loyal, enthusiastic, lovin' their school, God bless 'em.😅 .
